As @FLAlaskaposted, it’s not a mistake but will take the route west of Vancouver island which can be rougher (in my experience) and pretty much open sea, so little scenery to see on the last day. I would only select Coral, Island or Grand myself. We love that last day going down between Vancouver Island and the Mainland and almost always see orcas that day too. Isn't most of that last leg mostly overnight anyway? Some daytime cruising too of course. That certainly wouldn't deter me from choosing the Discovery because having been on her recently, it was one of my favorite ships that I have cruised on and I have cruised many, many times to Alaska. peder Posted July 24 #57 Share Posted July 24 So approximately 35 days for the Star Princess to get from Fort Lauderdale (last day March 28th, 2026) to Seattle (first day May 3rd, 2026)? Seems a bit quick?
Rare azbirdmom Posted July 24 #58 Share Posted July 24 Just got off the Discovery last Saturday, our 9th Alaska cruise. Such a fun way to get out of the hellish heat of Arizona! Glad to see that the Star will be out of Seattle but alas no Glacier Bay with the new ship. Will wait a while to book but no doubt we will be doing one of these in 2026! Thanks for sharing.

However, it's been reported that they have totally screwed up Take Five by adding Slot Machines and doing away with the band area. I find it tragic. This was our favorite venue on the ship.

TRLD Posted July 24 #61 Share Posted July 24 Aren't Alaska ports getting overwhelmed enough? Let's add even more and larger ships. Let's really get the locals in some of the towns even more annoyed. Princess and other lines show some restraint before you have even more places forcing restrictions on cruise lines.

We will be there twice in the next few weeks I didn’t notice one way or another. I do see with a quick google search that it is permanently closed but don’t know how accurate that is. More likely Princess is trying to take advantage of a shrinking window of opportunity and wants to capitalize on Alaskan cruising dates that may not be available soon?

I have been looking to see if we could squeeze one more cruise in with him but it just doesn’t work for us. When airfare is added in, it’s really pricey for a 4 day cruise. HEINER Posted July 24 #68 Share Posted July 24 Is it possible to do the Pacific 4 day cruise from LA to Vancouver then stay on for the Alaska cruise? Ship stops in Seattle & Victoria. I think it’s not possible but want to check. It’s been a while since we have did a cruise to Alaska Thanks, Betty

Rare karatemom2 Posted July 24 #71 Share Posted July 24 Hopefully they will add more than one cruise going out of Los Angeles - nice to see the Emerald on that particular run. I am fond of that ship. Although, now that my son lives in Anchorage, we may be more likely to look at the one way cruises and combine it with visiting him going forward.
peder Posted July 24 #72 Share Posted July 24 The SF and LA ports don't make a ton of sense to me for summer sailings. Seems like a lot of "wasted" time sailing up the coast.

Seems like a lot of "wasted" time sailing up the coast. They have been doing the SF sailings for years and they are so popular they fill up quickly. A lot of people enjoy extra sea days and the convenience of not needing to fly to a port to cruise. I love sailing out of San Francisco, and LA is even closer. More sea days equals more Casino time for the DH, so he would be happy with that. A lot of people enjoy sea days and also just do not want to deal with the hassle of flying. That's why the LA to Hawaii cruises are so popular. If you enjoy cruising, most don't look at sea days as wasted time, but more time to relax and enjoy the ship and all its amenities.
