cruisingisforme Posted August 18 #1 Share Posted August 18 HI, I am sailing on Voyager of the seas, Barcelona to Rome this Sept and wondered if it was cheaper to prepay the internet package or just book it on the ship.I am a diamond member so I do get one free day. Thank you
smokeybandit Posted August 18 #2 Share Posted August 18 Always (with limited exception for short cruises+ C&A free days) cheaper to book pre-cruise.
Sunshine3601 Posted August 18 #3 Share Posted August 18 (edited) As your cruise has a port stop all but 1 day will you be getting off the ship at every stop? Will you be able to access internet from your phone while in ports of Europe? i.e. Verizon offers $10 day travel pass If yes, then are you okay with no internet while onboard the ship during the evenings? You could use your one day D freebie on your sea day. Edited August 18 by Sunshine3601
Billy Baltic Posted August 18 #4 Share Posted August 18 A lot down to personal preference too. I like being disconnected while cruising.
Tatka Posted August 18 #5 Share Posted August 18 (edited) If you are not D+ and need it I advise you to buy pre cruise. It’s way cheaper than onboard. Edited August 18 by Tatka
ARandomTraveler Posted August 18 #6 Share Posted August 18 (edited) Cheaper to buy pre-cruise. Worth it if under $22/day for me, otherwise I can just use LTE for free (with T-Mobile) in port. If there's more than 2 sea days in a row though, I'd buy it even if it cost more than $22/day. That being said, I buy it on every cruise and I've always gotten it for under $22, so I've never actually had to suffer without the Internet 😂, not since 2013 at least. lenquixote66 Posted August 18 #7 Share Posted August 18 We never bought an internet package, not because of cost but never found it necessary .Many of the ports have Internet Cafes .We never opted to use one either.

Does T Mobil do that in Europe ? I know it does in the Caribbean. Never tried it in Europe.

Worked in Europe and in Asia. I haven't been to a country yet that it hasn't worked. Internet and texting is free, (as are wifi calls), regular non-wifi calls cost $0.50 cents a minute. T Mobile, in my opinion is the best for world travelers. The only place it didn’t work (so far), is in Noumea, but I still got a text saying it wasn’t covered. I love getting texts on the 5 continents and numerous countries I’ve been to that I have data and free Wi-Fi. Some cruisers don’t use internet and some do on the ship. There is no right or wrong answer. It’s all a personal choice. Edited August 18 by crzndeb
Rare RobInMN Posted August 18 #11 Share Posted August 18 "Is the internet package worth it?" Inherently, no. But if you are anything like me, and need to stay connected, then it's just part of the cost of cruising.
boscobeans Posted August 19 #12 Share Posted August 19 We sign up for one device and use it to connect with our SPECTRUM account. We keep in touch with our house sitter and a very limited amount of business updates on our iPhones just as though we were back at home. I also get to see a ballgame or two when relaxing in our stateroom. As RobInMN says, "just part of the cost of cruising."
lovesthebeach2 Posted August 19 #13 Share Posted August 19 If your cruise is port heavy, and you have TMobile then you get data and texting included in most countries. The only place we had no service was Panama, and we’ve been to many countries. Then you can use the free day(s) when at sea

I agree with your first comment one hundred percent. However, I am the opposite of you…I never cruise without having WiFi every day on the ship.

You can book a package onboard and receive a discount of that 1 free day too. In our experience it will be more expensive that booking pre cruise. WALKER1313 Posted August 26 #19 Share Posted August 26 As D+, we get 4 total free days. So, most cruises, we skip a day or two and pay the Full rate for either one or two days. (Max around $ 60)
