Celebrity Eclipse Sky Lounge closed during 12 day cruise

I remember years ago we were walking in the SL for the evening CC HH and a couple in front of us were denied entrance (even though they walked by the sign that said "private event...") as they were not Elite or above. They had a hissy fit and said something to the effect, this is BS, because it's a public venue and shouldn't be reserved. So now the shoe is on the other foot, I can see where they were coming from.

I don’t know exactly what time they started but right now at 3:00pm Sky Lounge is closed for a park west function and they will not open for regular, paying Celebrity cruisers until 9:00pm.

So it open for all until 3pm?

supposedly, and I share this with a healthy dose of personal skepticism, there are some pieces of art valued at six figures and above and there are some reasons to worry about their security.

They must have had their printers printing all night for such a pricey piece of "art"  🤣

About 10 years ago we attended a Park West auction where some $80k pieces of art were sold.  I would suppose that they have pricier pieces in the back that can be brought out.  This was not for a private showing just for the general public.

Agree. Possibly some go to get a glass or two of the cheap sparkling wine PW pushes as champagne. 🥂

True Story! , that's exactly what happened to me and I ended up with a Tomas Kincaid print!! They pushed that bubbly on me & (I drank it)😄Got sucked in to the whole experience! Never again!! I put my champagne glass down and staggered out of there while I could still walk! 😂

The CC HH event now is just once a cruise. Yes it used to be every night but that is gone.  It is also a published event so most people know it is happening.  This Park West crap has been almost every day.  We stopped bothering to go up there after the third day.  The good news is that this is the only negative on this cruise so far.  Everything else has been first class, they even opened the helipad for Prinz Christian Sund and we have had no missed ports.

The champagne helps out when you are purchasing some of those limited edtion giclees.  🤣  I suspect they are not very limited or rare.

Personally, it's not just the fact that a private company would have taken over 'our' public space, it's the idea that the private company that occupies it has previously demonstrated the integrity of a used car lot run out of a trailer with a big "We Finance Here" sign hanging crookedly over the door.  Worse, and here's the nub of it, they're making a profit at our expense.

What?  My limited edition giclee's are not rare or limited?  🤣

I have no information on why people would buy art on a cruise ship.

Just like I don't see why people would buy overpriced alcohol, gamble in the casino, or pay twice for dinner.

Doesn't fit their business strategy. Price everything appropriately high and include almost everything. They don't need the side gig. And are apparently meeting their internal metrics to RCG because they also don't have a seat on the board.

Last week I booked an Alaska cruise for 2025. Vancouver to Seaward. Booking the Retreat on Celebrity was more expensive than Silversea. So I chose Silversea - easy decision. Silversea includes much more for the same price than the Retreat on many similar sailings.

What about the spa, jewelry, watches... At home, when going out, I'm accustomed to paying a premium for alcohol - but it is a nice change from drinking at home.

I'm well aware how the CC HH use to be.. It was never every evening pre covid. Nothing on the first evening. Currently the HH in a reserved lounge is twice or  three times a cruise. Depending on the length of the cruise. IMO, it sucks that Celebrity allows PW to take over that venue no matter the time of day/evening!

As a former strong defender of Celebrity - a cheerleader I suppose - I wonder how many Celebrity loyalists will begin to look elsewhere? What event will be the final straw?

I began pursuing other options for sailing about 2 years ago because of a variety of small irritations on my Celebrity cruises and the increase in the Retreat pricing. Since June of this year I have booked 2 Celebrity cruises but many more on MSC (6) and Silversea (12 weeks). Used to be all Celebrity and the occasional Royal with older grandkids. Times have changed.

We like Celebrity, just not and never have been loyal to them or any of the cruise lines we cruise with.

I think everyone should go on FB & X and post a link to this thread and tell Celebrity how unhappy we are with Parkwest taking over the Sky Lounge

We'll express our concerns with Celebrity if this effects us on our September cruise. I want to do it based on our experience.

On second thought an Email to the executive office. Cruise or no cruise.

is anyone familiar with the apprasers  or how the " appraisals" are obtained?  Are they guaranteed?

Are the values consistent with post cruise valuations ?

PW used their own appraisers and not independent.  You can view the post cruise pricing on Ebay.  It is a fraction of PW pricing.  A bunch of PW art being resold for a fraction of the original PW price.  Buyer's remorse?

For mine.  I like the art,  but realize I overpaid for it.  Part of a learning experience.

What was the executive office e-mail address again? IF everyone impacted by these situations sent their thought to Miami, maybe they might listen. They did listen to the complaints about taking Decoy cab out of the premium package earlier this year. And a lesser problem but one they still heard a lot about was the "vaping" to be allo9wed in the casino. So,  everyone tell them how you feel about this.

Wow! Sooo many bad reviews here and rightly so.

I’ve just Googled Park West and there are loads of bad stories and rip offs.

We love Celebrity but knowing that they are stopping decent people from accessing the Sky Lounge to accommodate these charlatans really makes me question my favourite cruise line.

They will simply post a FB message asking you to send them a PM. So divide and conquer tactic. And act 'surprised' that you were disappointed. They will not respond publically on FB.
