LAFFNVEGAS LIVE to Alaska on the HAL Westerdam August 25, 2024

Recommended Posts

Good Evening from the MS Westerdam on our way to Ketchikan with lots of motion to the Ocean.
We are already back in our cabin for the evening. Sadly there is just not enough options of things going on and for music we have to wait to after 8:30. We like to eat early and unless you want to see the show there is just nothing happening on the ship till late. We don’t go to the Casino. The Love and Marriage Show is earlier but in Rolling Stone Lounge where people have camped out early for a seat, then stay there for the evening. This is one of the reasons we have been drawn to NCL over the years. Tonight’s show is Step One Dance Company show is Move which we have seen several times before.
For tonight’s dinner, Tom had his usual Caesar Salad, Marcia had the Salmon Chowder and I had the Butter Lettuce Salad.

For entrees, Marcia had the Teriyaki Salmon Bowl, Tom had the Prime Rib and I was very different and had the Liver and Onions. It was actually quite good and very tender. It had been years since I had Liver and Onion’s.
For dessert Marcia had the Stroopwaffle Cheesecake, Tom and I both had the Chocolate Delight and then I also had the Liquid Dessert of the Day the Nutty Irishman. I like to pour them into my after dinner coffee. Our servers also brought us a plate of the Ginger with the motion getting a bit rough 😊

We do have an early morning tomorrow, we are doing the Bering Sea Crab Fisherman excursion that we need to be out at the pier at 7:45 so if we want a lite breakfast that means getting up about 6. We are not ones to ever do room service. I know most love room service, I just don’t and would rather go to the Lido to grab something to eat.

Thank you for the menu Lisa.

Tonight would choose the Smoked Salmon Chowder,

                                        Halibut,

Chocolate Delight  ............ had intended to have Pear Crisp, but your photo made me change my mind!

I'm so glad I got to see y'alls plates before I ordered!! That prime rib looks tasty, but such a tiny portion, so I'll be supplementing with additional choices.

Shrimp tacos, hold the lime please

French Onion Soup

Prime Rib, medium rare

Halibut with Prosciutto

Chocolate Delight with a scoop of French vanilla ice cream

Yum! Dinner of dreams right there!!!

We used to love room service too, but over the many cruises we discovered something is always missing, forgotten, or we needed more of (butter, cream, etc.) and then it's a long wait for them to deliver...most of the time these issues aren't a problem in a restaurant.

Hard to believe the week is coming to an end very soon.
Today was the last Gala night, the servers did a sort of parade around the dining room singing an Indonesian song. I don’t really remember this before but tomorrow night we are in Victoria BC.
For dinner tonight the three of us all had the same exact thing 😁 This difference was our drinks, Marcia had her Moscato, Tom had a glass of Cabernet and I had a glass of Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling.
We had the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, the Beef Tenderloin Oscar and the Warm Chocolate Lava cake.

@LAFFNVEGAS I always appreciate your Live Froms with lots of good info and pictures!

On the Zuiderdam Trans Atlantic in May 2024 the waiters did the march through the dining room on one of the last nights.  It's the first I've seen on HAL and I'm not a fan actually.  Seems kind of cheesy for a line that caters to a more well-traveled/seasoned demographic.                              Am I just a party pooper or do most folks on HAL enjoy the marching around?  🤷‍♀️

I will now fill you in on earlier today. It was an early morning since our excursion to to meet at 7:45 so got up at 6 was up in the Lido at 6:40. Fortunately our excursion was right at the pier directly below our Signature Suite. We did the Bering Sea Crab Fisherman. The morning was very cold rainy and foggy but the ship The Aleutian Ballad was definitely set up for the protection and comfort of the guests. There were overhead heaters, despite it raining you really did not get wet. You could see and hear everything. Plus it was informative. Interactive and extremely interesting and entertaining. I have to say it was definitely one of the best tours we have ever taken.

Afterwards there really was not enough time to do anything in Ketchikan plus it was raining.  So headed back on the ship and then had lunch in the Main Dining Room, had an excellent Seafood Chowder and Tuna Chedder Melt and Custard.

Then came back to our cabin and could not keep my eyes open so took a nap. 💤

Lisa, thank you for sharing the menus.

My choice is:  Grilled Asparagus and Artichoke

                       Sea Bass

                        Chocolate Lava Cake.

Interested to see the servers marching through the Dining room, but not waving Table Napkins.
