Has Anyone Ever Seen Crew's Quarters?

So are the quarters small, or are they large? It would depend on who you ask. It's a ship, so if the passenger cabins are small, I would believe the crew cabins are just as small or smaller.

Honestly, in the USA, everyone thinks BIG, but in other countries they think SMALL. Almost any hotel overseas are smaller than in the USA.

It is not uncommon for people to share a 300 sq foot apartment with 4 people.

This might be a record...

Sept 2006 thread dug up... a full 8 years and 3 months since the last post. Now THAT'S using the search feature! :D

Didn't need to dig. It came to me after I googled "Allure OTS crew cabin". (Found xy OTS cabins' videos on YT, but no Allure's.

Crew cabins onboard any cruise ships are extremely small, ofter sharing bank bedded smallness' toilet/shower with the adjacent cabin.

They don't "show" you the crews cabins but if someone happened to be leaving their cabin they let you peek.

Only I don't see how you could get into crew accommodation hallways to be near crew cabin doors to start with.

I was invited down to deck 0 to view the quarters of a guy we met while on our first RCCL cruise in 1989 on the Sovereign. ROoms were exactly the same size as a regular passenger standard cabin, except there were 2 to 4 per room. Also, at that time there were no doors on the cabins just curtains. Bathroom was exactly like the standard passenger cabins.

.

Just curtains on the cabins .... no doors ?!? Hmmm could make it a little interesting when someone is, uh, ummmm .... snoring!:D

We are friends with an International Ambassador (shame on RCI for saving money by phasing them out !!!!!).

He always had an inside cabin on a passenger deck (always on his own until recently when they were told they now had to share to save money) but we weren't allowed to go in there. He used to come to our cabin and literally get changed into jeans and a hoodie in case the cameras saw him 'fraternising' with passengers outside his work role !

Years, and I mean years ago, we sailed on the Norway. I have no idea why, but my husband and I were invited to dine at the Captains Table, and this included a cocktail party in his cabin before dinner. Let me tell you, his cabin beat most apartments in NYC! A long, lovely, well appointed living room, and although we didn't get a full tour, my understanding was that the bedroom and bathroom were pretty wonderful. Of course, this was on the Norway, which started life as the SS France - I'm grateful to have sailed her before her untimely end.

My first post!

I've been below the passenger decks on two ships, although I don't remember which ones. The last one was an MSC ship.

Long narrow hallways on embarkation day filled with people waiting outside the pursers office for cash before going ashore. They were all really glad to see me once they figured out who I was.

Seems the pursers safe hadn't been accessible for a few days and the crew all wanted cash to go ashore. I was there to open it.

I recall narrow, crowded hallways with linoleum floors. Very busy moving luggage and food. The pursers office was very cramped. I'm 6'1" and there was barely room for me to kneel in front of it.

Lots of smiles from everyone when I was done though.

I have not seen the cabins, but on our Legend TA the Captain invited all of the D+ and P guests to his quarters for a cocktail party one evening [sea day]. We had the most forward balcony cabin [7000] and just past our door was a metal door that said private no admittance. Beyond this door was a hallway that went across the front of the ship and the Captain and senior officers had cabins there.

Our table-mates had a good time. It was a very unusual perk and it was very popular. I think cruise passengers are curious about the crew, staff and officers' quarters. They were able to see [if I remember what they said] the Captain's cabin, chief Engineer, Hotel Director and a few others on this short hall.

Go ahead and flame me but. . .

It was actually an inconvenience for us.[not high enough C & A to be invited]

The Officers hall was not that large and the number of D+ and P was large. The group spilled into the passenger section. Since ours was the first cabin--the talking and laughing kept getting louder and people kept knocking against our door.

One person even fell into the door. That is how I saw the configuration. I opened the door to see if anyone was hurt.

Anyone has an idea on what a Cabin would look like for an I.T Specialist onboard???

Probably very small and cramped.

We had seen the crew's quarters on a Princess cruise one time.  Very small indeed.  I remember equating the size to a larger home bathroom.  Bunk beds, small locker area, desk and a compact bathroom.  I give those folks credit on how they maneuver about and store "not a whole heck of a lot".

Here are some photos from an All Access tour I took on the Serenade about 5 years ago.

Their dining area.  There was a buffet station nearby.

If I remember correctly, the bar was close.  Notice the pool table.

and Internet service for the crew is much cheaper.

From what crew have told me this is not true. Don't know what they pay for Internet access but it certainly isn't much cheaper!!! I believe it should be included in their contract at no cost.

The prices for the internet for the crew are supposedly discounted but not much. RCCL should really consider to be more generous to it's crew members and provide them maybe with a 30 minute voucher daily or every other day that they at least have a chance to talk to their families back home. Yes, there is often free wifi in ports, but a lot of the crews cannot leave the ship at every port due to work duties.

Who cares?! The ships are fully staffed, and the line “forms to the left” for people waiting for an opening to join the crew. If the conditions were so deplorable this wouldn’t be the case.

What do you mean, "who cares?!" Have some respect and apreciation for the hard work the crew members do for you, both the ones you see and most of them that you never see who work behind the scenes. It is known that RCCL probably has the best working conditions for the crews in the industry. This little benefit by giving staff members daily or almost daily 30 minutes of internet would be a highly appreciated perk to keep the staff happy, and when they are happy they perform even more above expectations which would make everyone benefit

I'm not doubting this, but I'm curious how you know this.  Where did you see this?  I'd be interested in reading more about it.
