  1. Having a trip over my birthday makes it a lot easier to turn down administration when they start begging for people to work summer school too. 🤣 "So sorry! I have a non-refundable trip planned over my birthday" somehow comes off better than "No, I need a mental break."
  2. I meant "search for cruises" ON the Hurtigruten site. Being solo complicates things with the price - that's why the 2 Apex itineraries are ideal since they have solo staterooms with IV (which I love).
  3. Thanks! Given embarkation day would be my birthday I have been leaning towards that one. It may come down to which - if any - have solo staterooms left when I'm on the Summit in July (over my birthday).
  4. I looked at whatever showed up with "search for cruises" for July and August 2024.
  5. Thanks for shilling a line I didn't ask about, but there's no Norway cruise that meets my time frame OR budget.
  6. Sounds like the problem was that you booked through an agency's block of rooms more than anything else. Had you not done that you likely would have been able to upgrade easier.
  7. Piggybacking if I may... Which is better between these two: Bruges, Belgium; Flam. Geiranger, and Bergen, Norway -or- Stavanger, Geiranger, Flam, and Haugesund, Norway Debating between those two itineraries for 2024. Pricing roughly the same. First one departs Southampton on my birthday. Second would be a couple of weeks before school starts back.
  8. It's not denigrating people who need it. I personally don't get why you'd put yourself through something you know will make you sick, but hey - you do you. It IS telling people who know they will need it to be responsible for themselves and bring their own.
  9. I'm glad you're having a good time overall!! Hoping the weather remains better for y'all than it's been for the ships crossing the past couple of weeks - a lot of them got tossed and turned! I'm sorry things are being disrupted by parents refusing to parent. That is one of my biggest pet peeves - not just on DCL but anywhere. But if you're on DCL with its awesome kids clubs, if you want a break from being a parent, take your kid to the club so you can have a break. (I teach special ed, so I get the needing a break thing. But you've got to make sure the kids are taken care of before you take the break!)
  10. Agreed. I could see having SOME on hand for people who have never cruised before. But for people who know they get seasick (personally I'd stick to land-based vacations if that were me - but I prefer to take as few medications as possible (I'm NOT anti-vax (I'm all boosted and everything!) or anti-med when you need it. I just feel like I'd rather avoid it if I can - ergo if I got seasick, only land-based trips), they should definitely take their own and not expect the cruiseline to underwrite their medication.
  11. Thanks all! You're helping me feel better about probably doing the Anthem in February.
  12. Thankfully I have zero desire to do a water park. Not my idea of fun at all.
  13. Regarding service in the MDRs, don't just quit going. Talk to your head server and/or the dining room manager (you can do this during the opposite seating if you don't want to do it while you're there) about it and tell them what you've said - that you have not been able to get a second glass of water or any condiments for your food. They'll take care of it - possibly there is a demanding table in your section (I've had that before - but we didn't realize until the last night when our server was out on medical since he had been holding that table in check) that the head server could assist with. They want to be able to help make things right - and they can't if they aren't told what is going on.
  14. Yup. I've been known to throw things away at home and immediately clean the cat's litter box on top of it. Whatever works!
  15. The Med can be rough. I was on a 12-night in the Med on RCCL in a forward facing cabin, and the final day and night we were cutting across the Med back to Barcelona. Per the Captain's noon report, smooth sailing was predicted all the way in. Around 2am I was awakened by what I thought sounded like waves crashing over the bow. I pulled the curtain back, keeping the light off, and sure enough, we were in the midst of a pop-up storm with gale force winds (I was fascinated and turned the tv onto the Bridge Report channel. We were rolling big time - I pulled all the hangers off the rod and put them on the floor because they were banging (it being the last night and nothing hanging on them). I have zero issues with motion, so I was LOVING it - but at the final breakfast in the Windjammer there were many, many green people who were not eating anything. Just pointing out that ANY time you're on the water things can pop up.
  16. Speaking as someone who struggles with weight and food cravings, that honestly is one of the best ways to handle it. Knowing he could have one bite each night likely kept him from binging and going overboard (not literally) which would have likely happened had he denied himself the treat for multiple days to eat the whole thing one night.
  17. Hmmm... I may rethink this. To me, that sounds like a nightmare being used to Disney's Castaway Cay where there is only EVER 1 ship at a time.
  18. Specifically Anthem and Liberty? I'm pondering what to do for Feb Break next year and was looking seriously at Anthem's 8-night out of Cape Liberty as a) there are solo balcony cabins and b) I wouldn't have to deal with airfare. I looked at cruisemapper (as was suggested in another thread about Coco Cay - the one about "having" to spend money on the water park) and Liberty and Anthem are both scheduled in. I'm not a Water Park kind of girl, but would prefer to not have things be insane in other parts of the island. Would it be crazy with both of those ships there? TIA!
  19. I've actually known several couples who always fly separately so if something happens their kids aren't left orphaned.
  20. So wait until they're offering Guarantee cabins. I'd venture a guess that the vast majority of cruisers are pretty picky about their stateroom location and don't want to leave it to chance.
  21. Tuscan was my favorite on the Edge - I love the decor and everything about it. I did enjoy Cyprus more than I thought I would. Normandie felt a little too stuffy for me personally. Cosmopolitan was ok, but the server brought the wrong thing out (they had 2 dishes with the same protein - one had breading and one was gluten-free) in spite of me verifying the one I wanted was the gluten-free one and specifying I was gluten-free. I didn't really feel safe going back to that one after that.
  22. Yeah, from what I understand it's much easier to book Celebrity on RCCL than the other way around. People on Celebrity forums have said it can be done, but you have to know all the info - including what cabin - going in because while they can book RCCL, they don't have access to the full system. I may end up just booking what I'm looking at for February with my TA in advance and pick a Celebrity cruise later for booking onboard the Summit.
