  1. When I lived in Rockland County, most if not all of my clothes shopping was done at Paramus Park Mall and Garden State Plaza. Back then, no sales tax on clothing & gas was significantly cheaper in NJ. Pretty much made a day of it, getting lunch and/or dinner at one of the many diner or a pub/restaurant if we wanted to treat ourselves.
  2. I always thought it was 15% for breakfast/lunch and 20% for dinner as dinner involved more work. Then again, dinner is more expensive so the same 15% will still be a bigger tip. Using my example above, dinner in theory involves more work. Take a 24/7 diner. For breakfast, you get your pancakes and coffee & maybe a refill and your done. Same for lunch, you get your hamburger & soda and a maybe a refill & you're out the door . For dinner, you'll get your steak and a couple of drinks but maybe a soup/salad & water before and dessert & coffee afterwards and the table needs to be cleaning between courses. More work/more steps. Now, I say "in theory" since breakfast/lunch times are more hectic and the staff has to hustle more (and get tipped less) than they do at dinner time when things seem to proceed at a more relaxed pace. IMHO & just my observations.
  3. It doesn't since the menu prices will be going up as well so the 10% tip will be going up as well.
  4. I miss Thor. He gave the tipping threads some character. He set a very high standard I don't think anybody can exceed. 🙂
  5. 58f here too but it does feel like a "chilly 58f", if that makes sense, much cooler than the temperature would indicate. No wind but no sun either, it's been a very gray day. Finished round #3 of leaf removal. About 2/3rds of the leaves are now down so I'll probably be blowing leaves at least 2 more times, until at least Thanksgiving. I have 4 Red Japaneses Maple trees of various heights that hang onto most of their leaves until Christmas time. Lot of fun trying to rake/blow the leaves when they are frozen to the ground or mixed in with snow.
  6. Enjoy the celebrations, we'll deserved by the Texas Rangers, especially winning every game on the road. Meanwhile, the New York Rangers won all 5 games on their road trip out west for the first time in team history & came home last night to make it 6 wins in a row. Granted, it's still early in the season & there are 5 more months to go but hope this continues.
  7. I've always had mixed feelings about Chapman. In his prime, he could routinely throw 100+ mph fastballs consistently, something very few other pitchers can do. He should have been unhitable. For the most part he was but he seem to wilt in high pressure situations. Too many blown save opportunities in big games for the Yanks & Cub too, I think. Seems like Texas used him more in middle relief roles where the pressure isn't as intense.
  8. Good luck with the surgery & recovery. Not that it's any consolation but I've always had issues with my CVS pharmacy are well. At least 50% of the time they claim to not have received my prescription even though the doctors office confirms it was sent. There are always long lines of people picking up their orders and they seem perpetually understaffed. I wonder if there is a pharmacist shortage in the country? At least they have limited hours on Saturday.
  9. Congratulations and enjoy the celebrations. Since neither of the NY area teams made the playoffs, I've been rootin for the Rangers, mainly because they never won a WS ever in franchise history, even when the team was the old Washington Senators. Nice to see some new blood in the playoffs. Plus, 2 of their pitchers - Evoaldi & Montgomery - are ex-Yankees that the team never should have let go.
  10. Definitely the Bionic Bar Robots. Why? They need their palms greased occasionally. 🤣🤣
  11. Perfect! Here is the email address: WeDontCare.WeDontHaveTo.WeAreThePostOffice@spam.gov (Apologies to Lily Tomlin)
  12. Are you tipping him based on the excellent service he has provided in the past, the current excellent service you received today or for the promise (hope) of excellent service you may or may not receive in the future? Do you know if he shares the tip with all the behind the scenes people that have enhanced your mail delivery experience? If you don't tip, does the USPS step up to make the difference or will that be the responsibility of your neighbors? Have you been shamed/bullied by online forums to tip more than you wanted to? I love tipping threads too.
  13. Gorgeous shot. Perfect amount of snow, enough to cover the ground and look pretty but not enough to make the roads a disgusting mess. It'll probably be gone by lunch time.
  14. Hi Lenny, I must've signed off for the night when you posted this as I don't remember seeing it. Hopefully you made it thru the night without too much anxiety & that you daughter is on the mend.
  15. At least they merged 3 threads into 1. Makes it easier to keep up with.
  16. Same with my dad. 🤣 I also remember some of the more popular exit ramps between toll booths also had their own toll booth for a dime. I guess NJ didn't want people to "beat the system" by getting off an exit before the next big toll booth.
  17. Maybe it's not a thing anymore? There were a lot of Trunk-or-treats this past weekend. Weather was a bit cool, around 40 but that's never deterred anybody before. Two houses in my neighborhood had backyard parties with a lot of kids but I think that was after the trick-or-treating.
  18. No kids came to the door in over an hour. I think the last one was around 7:30. Used to go pretty steady until 9:00 with the bigger kids. In fact, no teenagers came at all. Probably because instead of trick-or-treating, they just use their phone to order DoorDash or Uber Eats to have Halloween candy delivered to them. 😆 Final count was about 40 so I have a lot of leftover. The last 10 or so kids I just handed the candy bowels to them and said take as much as you want. Little Miss HBE4 went with her BFF & her BFF's children to a different neighborhood. Apparently that is the "in" neighborhood as she said it was packed and still going strong when she left at 8:30-ish.
  19. Using CC certainly does help. I find myself using it more and more often, especially with shows set in England such as The Crown and Sex Education.
