  1. Does anyone else remember reading that there is a switch (button?) to turn off all but emergency announcements in the cabin? I thought I read that somewhere but I don't know if was HAL or another cruise line. I did mention it on my post cruise survey.
  2. Agreed! The only thing I had that is orange was a flannel shirt I had brought along for the chilly Norway weather. Definitely not dressy night attire! I didn't wear it to dinner, just threw it on over the black turtleneck I wore to dinner.
  3. Unfortunately, on the Nieuw Statendam in May, the cruise director made announcements 3 times a day and they were broadcast in the cabins. She basically gave the highlights of what was in the Daily and available on the app. Very annoying! I certainly don't mind the captain's noon address or announcements letting us know that we are free to go ashore but telling us what we can read for ourselves is not necessary.
  4. On our recent NS cruise we were limited to having 2 bottles at a time, from our wine package, delivered to our cabin. Of course, as the cruise went on our original picks became unavailable which was disappointing. Their substitutions were fine but I would have preferred to drink what I had ordered.
  5. Thanks, our upcoming cruise is the first time we had applied for the credit so I was unsure of the process.
  6. I understand verifying annually for most of these categories but it seems kind of silly for military veterans. It's not as if you won't be a veteran next year.
  7. One problem I've seen lately is that some sites will not accept auto fill credit card entries. It may not be your issue but I thought I would mention it.
  8. I would take a transfer & tour to Santiago. You can visit Valparaiso and maybe some wineries then head to Santiago for your overnights.
  9. In May on the NS we went from a veranda to a Neptune via an upsell in one step. The offer we received listed the prices for Signature, Vista and Neptune upsells.
  10. But it can be difficult, in some countries, to find somewhere that accepts Discover.
  11. Twice while out of the country my husband has needed prescriptions to be replaced. Once he forgot one of the prescriptions and another time our nephew, who was staying at our rental house in Mexico with us, stole several of husbands pills and apparently sold them in the nearby town! Both times our doctor faxed new scripts to the local doctor who wrote new prescriptions for us.
  12. We did the same thing, years ago, when we were in a hotel that required it. I had never heard of such a thing! I do like it though. I'm awful about losing my key cards whether on land or at sea. I usually just toss it on a table or wherever. With the slot now I know where that #*#! card is!
  13. On NS in May we were given a time frame of when to go scan our cards. I seem to remember that there was a note in the cabin.
  14. That's what we did. We turned the laundry in on the evening we embarked and it was back the next evening. Other times when we put it out in the morning it would be back the next evening. It generally took a day and a half for turn around. We sent something out every day.
  15. Maybe this is what HAl is in the process of doing? Time will tell but it may be that the ending of the Lincoln Center affiliation is the start of letting the brand contracts expire and setting up something new to replace them. Some people will be disappointed and miss what was and others will be excited to see what's next.
  16. On the Nieuw Statendam we had a wine tasting at Nami Sushi. It was the first time I had seen that offered and it was quite interesting.
  17. Thank you, I appreciated your great review! We're booked on Oosterdam for 1/2025. Your review was very helpful.
  18. Yes, it can be bad. We have been in some horrible back ups driving into and out of Honolulu. Now that my brother no longer lives there I'm fine with never seeing Oahu again!
  19. When you picture that moment, sailing away on your first night of a new adventure, what do you see? Are you enjoying a beautiful restaurant dinner with a nice glass of wine to celebrate? Or your on your private balcony, just the two of you as you watch the city slowly slip away, with a nice glass of wine and maybe a cheese plate? Or are you on deck with others, enjoying the festive atmosphere with a nice glass of wine and some appetizers being served to you? As you can maybe tell, a nice glass of wine features prominently in all of my scenarios! YMMV
  20. So in this case, if you used your excursion credit, it would be $29 for the HAL tour. I'd still choose the private option for a visit to the canyon but if I were looking at a similar situation in Honolulu I would take the HAL option to avoid the horrible traffic!
  21. If you have any onboard credit you can wait until you're onboard and use that to pay for it.
  22. Oosterdam is scheduled for dry dock in October, so maybe the hallway bumps and bruises will be taken care of. And a library addition would be an added bonus for many!🤞
