  1. Or not Carnival Corp $19.23 1.42% +0.27 Today Jul 5, 9:40:42 AM UTC-4 · USD · NYSE · Disclaimer
  2. I would, not necessarily for the party but because I enjoy watching the sights as we arrive or leave a port.
  3. I hadn't done a ship excursion since our first cruise, but my husband was concerned that I would be hiking in unfamiliar terrain alone so it was a compromise. The one in Flam I was also concerned I wouldn't be able to get the train tickets on my own so I used our credit for that. In the end, I did do it on my own. My husband wasn't thrilled that I would be hiking by myself as the excursion was canceled due to icy conditions but the trail was fine so it worked out. For Geiranger, I modified what the hike I was going to do so he could go with me.
  4. I used my excursion credit for a hike in Flam (day 3 of the cruise) and then wait listed to do another hike in Geiranger (day 12) which I would have paid for. Upon boarding I was notified the hike in Flam was canceled. The day before Geiranger I was notified that I had cleared the wait list for that hike but I had already made other arrangements so I canceled the HAL excursion. I could have used the excursion credit for the one in Geiranger but I preferred the alternative plans I had made.
  5. I was wait listed for an excursion for a few months before our cruise and was notified a day before the excursion, while on the ship, that I had cleared the wait list. I had already made other plans. I never did get to use our included excursion as the other one I had booked was canceled.
  6. That advice seems very out of date! Yes, if you feel you need some cash, a bank ATM is a good choice. But, we haven't used cash at all in Europe for our last few trips.
  7. This may make me consider a ship excursion. Anything that focuses on nature or science is going to peak my interest. I enjoy learning the history of an area with a competent guide but have a limited tolerance for cities and crowds so something that would balance the two interest would be great. I haven't been on a ship excursion since my first cruise. I had a hiking excursion booked with my HIA freebie on our recent Norway cruise but it was canceled, so I did it by myself. But something lead by an expert in the field, I would consider that.
  8. I think some of the more negative comments are coming from people who have extensive cruising experience. As someone who cruise about once every few years, I just don't notice the little differences from one cruise to the next. We recently had a great cruise on the Nieuw Statendam. There wasn't anything that made me think "Wow, that's a cutback from our last cruise". We always found things we enjoyed for dinner and we didn't ordered anything where we were told that it was unavailable. The one exception to that was specific wines in our wine package but that certainly wasn't a new experience. So I think a lot has to do with perspective. You don't miss what you never experienced or don't remember. If we didn't enjoy the current experience, we wouldn't do it again.
  9. On our recent cruise we had an aft wrap balcony on Nieuw Statendam. When we arrived there were 4 chairs w/dinning table, and 2 chairs with an ottoman and cocktail table. There were not any lounge chairs, so we asked the room steward about that and he had 2 delivered to the room. We moved the balcony furniture around depending on wind and sun conditions.
  10. The terms and condition say non-refundable but as the others noted it is refundable if you cancel your cruise before final payment. It is also refundable if you to upgrade to a Neptune/Pinnacle suite which includes the CO amenities.
  11. We always get a cheese plate on embarkation day. We call about an hour before sail away. It doesn't matter which cabin you're in.
  12. I agree. I didn't install the app until the day before we left home and deleted it once off the ship.
  13. The company that I was going to use is no longer in service. https://falklandshelicopterservices.com/ Our cruise isn't until 2025 so I'm hoping some else continues the service.
  14. We were in our first Neptune suite recently due to an upsell. With the exception of the wonderful aft wrap around balcony I didn't see the value in a Neptune vs. a Signature suite. Free laundry was nice but it is much cheaper to get a S.S and pay for the unlimited laundry. The lounge held no appeal, we can get snacks in so many places with a much better selection. Signature suites remain our favorites but would go for an upsell for an aft Neptune!
  15. Thanks for the information. Unfortunately the double wides are already booked! I will keep an eye on them though. The cruise isn't until 2025 so lots of time to change our cabin.
  16. Interesting. I still think this is not just random kindness on HAL's part.
  17. Just a guess but I would "bet" they're spending that in the casino. HAL is not giving those cruises away out of the goodness of their heart! There were some good giveaways at the startup to entice people back to cruising but those offers are gone now.
  18. Do you really think that, as cheap as HAL is on perks etc., that they would be giving away "free" cruises if they weren't making a profit on them? That doesn't make any sense.
  19. We were recently on the Nieuw Statendam and on that ship, deck 4 had deeper balconies than the other decks. Is there an equivalent deck to look for on the Oosterdam? Any other preferred balcony cabins? Thanks!
  20. I do enjoy a proper promenade deck! It was one of the only things I didn't enjoy about our cruise on Oceania. On the Marina the only outdoor walking area was on the top of ship with stairs up and down at the bow and stern. Not very enjoyable in the rain or blistering heat. On HAL ships, I love the deck 3 promenade decks (Pinnacle class ships not as much). They are continuous and sheltered and much closer to the sea. Just a wonderful place to go for a walk!
  21. I ask the hotel director on our recent N.S. cruise about behind the scenes tours returning. He stated that they know how popular the tours were and that there is discussion on bringing the tours back late in 2023 or early 2024. Just discussion, not a firm approval that he was aware of.
  22. Sorry I don't drink coffee. I didn't save them but there is someone onboard right now who is doing a Live From thread and maybe they could help you.
  23. LOL I had my haircut about 2 weeks before the cruise! I'm glad we did get a chance to say hi. The photo is from the Orange party night on our cruise. My flannel was the only thing I owned that was orange and it came in handy on some of our chillier days!
  24. Just to add to the confusion😁 On our recent cruise, we had $190 OBC leftover at the end of the cruise $89 of that was non-refundable. I asked at Guest Services if I could cash out my account to use it for a tip for our cabin steward and she gave me the entire $190 in cash. I'm pretty sure that was not suppose to happen.
