  1. We book cabins with our TA - not a big box company. She always has verandas and often Aqua cabins in a group block. Rates are the same as Celebrity sail only except fares are refundable and AI. Agree that at home I might have a soda or a hard cider at lunch and a glass or two of wine "after 5". Would not purchase a separate beverage package, but that is a personal decision.
  2. Sarcasm at its finest. Distilled water, extension cords and a other special needs are accommodated promptly at no charge by the special needs department.
  3. Lots of changes as ships have reduced speeds so as to not disrupt whales. Is changing and sometimes shortening port times. Same with excursions like Tracy Arm.
  4. Yes. Info on shopping and places to visit. Getting an Alaska guidebook - available from almost any library- helped us on our first cruise far more than thevon board discussions.
  5. Lots of complicated answers. The US Department of State has all the answers and is updated immediately if there is a change. VISA requirements are often waived for cruise passengers not spending a night on shore.
  6. There is a loop but it is rough and long. You climb for the view. Returning the same way allows for better photo ops.
  7. Uber, taxis or a shuttle on board. Lots of ways to get there. Relax and move on.
  8. There are times where DW and I have spent all day on a strenuous shore excursion. When we arrive on board we simply want a shower, a glass of wine and an easy FAST dinner. Not interested in anything luxury that evening, but rather some food for dinner. FWIW, Celebrity in a veranda cabin is neither expensive or luxury compared to a 4star hotel with 3 meals a day IMO.
  9. As bookings are still very strong promotions will not need to be large. Watching a cruise you are interested is more likely to give you the lowest total cost. Most cruises are pretty to very full. However, some are seeing fewer bookings and accordingly lower fares.
  10. Absolutely use the US State Department website. There you can see the entry requirements for every country. There are changes somewhere every couple of days. You need to have a visa before being allowed boarding your flight or cruise.
  11. We ran a slot pull before covid. Sure wish we lived in Florida as got a 50% off offer with AI. Probably put $1000 or less in a slot. Crazy.
  12. In Greenland there were almost no private tours. Ship locked up everything. In Akureyri renting a car would be great. Cars in short supply. Lots of great scenery nearby. In Reykjavik be aware there are very few taxis and a 5 mile ride can cost $40. People waited in line for 1-2 hours to get a taxi. Definitely a ship's tour. Isafjordur is very small. Car rental possible or a ship's tour of simply visit town and an excellent museum within easy walking distance.
  13. Why would you bother trying to speak with the same agent? Jim is correct - call and give your booking number. Anyone should be able to help.
  14. Never did like eating dog meat. Lobster- slather it in mayo and butter and it is OK- just barely. Rather have halibut.
  15. The APP. Checkin generally opens 45 days before your cruise. Have seen it a day earlier or later when a Sunday or holiday is involved. Most important is you do NOT need to use the app. You do not need luggage tags. You can bring your passport and cruise booking to the pier and check in there. Show your booking to the porter and they can tag your bags at the pier.
  16. You sadly are not likely to find one as your cruise is one way. A wheelchair is likely the best you can do.
  17. Captain's Club is not likely to assist. Sorry and good luck
  18. We opted in by telling guest relations and telling our steward. There is also a sign up on their full website. Our steward still came in twice a day. Morning while we were at breakfast for cleaning and during dinner to change towels and drop off chocolates. He also often asked if there was anything we needed when we saw him in the hallway.
  19. If on a Med cruise get foreign currency at an ATM. They will always have the best rate. I note on our last trip to the EU in 3 weeks needed a bit less than $2 in cash - twice for a pay toilet.
  20. Lots of discussions in the ports forum.
  21. What is your point? The issue for all companies is they got blindsided by a pandemic unprecedented since 1918. Now everything is costing them more and they are passing on those costs (or trying to). Many companies had to borrow to stay in business during covid. Cruiselines were unique in being 100% closed down. The 147 years before the pandemic they operated their business. Paid out dividends in good years. Made plans and budgets for the future. Problem is income stopped in March 2020, but expenses did not. No company budgets for that.
  22. Roz - exactly the same as you taking an ad for a car from a few weeks ago. The price has most likely changed. Pretty simple pay and lock in the price when you pay.
