  1. Think it is sort of like having dinner with our grandchildren. The rule is phones out of sight. I travel lots of remote places such as Nunavut Canada. My phone most places is good for a door stop. Can often get news and maybe wifi at lodging each night. After a couple days we actually talk to everyone in our group instead of text on our phones. Have been off grid for up to 5 weeks. The World was still there and only 1 or 2 events were still meaningful. We ask for 2 copies of daily schedule. Mark where DW and I are planning to attend and set up a meeting or two. Works fine.
  2. Because the first English town on the West Coast was Astoria founded in 1811. My source is the town charter on display at the local city hall. The Pacific Coast had few European contacts until after about 1812. The Russians in Alaska have extensive records about their settlements in Alaska and whaling mostly in St Petersburg at the Hermitage. Whales were a source of $, oil and food to both the Russians and native peoples. Suggesting that natives or Russians would simply set sail and hope to see whales is folly. You can easily see the migration from shore. PS try reading about the exploration of the Pacific Coast. I suggest a book - there are dozens - instead of a URL.
  3. If you cancel your slots might reappear or be given to someone on a waitlist. For a few dollars seems not worth it. When we have cancelled excursions the OBC appeared back in our account within a couple business days. It was not instantly.
  4. Since this keeps coming up. There is no event where only Elites are admitted. Just show your Seapass.
  5. You will need to be off the ship by 9:00 or 9:30 at the latest. Just self disembark. Everyone needs to be off before the next group can start boarding. Maybe take Lyft to the Space Needle and museum complex then light rail to SeaTac
  6. Have purchased promo chips with OBC. You must bet them.
  7. Absolutely not. Will likely get a visit to the naughty room. The new rules are simple. All guests of legal drinking age (21 in Florida) can bring 2 bottles per person. If they do NOT have a beverage package there is a $25 corkage fee to bring the wine to a MDR
  8. Too many things unknown. If you dock downtown it is a 20 uphill walk to the light rail. If at the cruise port north of downtown about a 45min to an hour via Uber or Lyft. Either way look at an hour to the airport from the port since it will be in the morning commute. Then what Alaska gate? Some are in the main terminal 5 minutes past security. Others a train to shuttle to a remote gate thus add 10+ minutes. You might get there on time and might not. Used to do this weekly before light rail from UW Campus to SeaTac and if all went good took 40minutes. If an accident double that.
  9. FWIW, my upcoming TA opened for checkin 6 or 7 days ago. All check in times were avaliable until yesterday. I checked in 2 days after check in opened. All times were still available. Relax.
  10. It all depends on if you leave the window open or closed. AC works fine even with southern facing cabin if window closed. Window open, cabin will warm or cool depending on outside temps and become more humid
  11. Ask your waiter for whatever you like. They will do their best effort to serve it when and how you like. Two appetizers served at the same time - easy. Just ask nicely and it will happen. Not complicated
  12. Wifi depends on how many on board are using it and the location of your ship. Often slow on TAs far away from land. Slow in South America and far North Atlantic in Europe. We enjoy leaving our phones in our cabin and using the walks to the restaurants to read the menus as a bit of exercise.
  13. You are trying to explain the stock market? Let me know if you do.
  14. On a MoveUp you keep your perks exactly as before - beverage, gratuity, etc. You move get those things attached to the cabin - luminae, retreat, premium beverage WHILE IN THE RETREAT, and are charged if tip cost is higher.
  15. Not on Emerald Princess at Christmas. Just Deal. Princess did save us $$ since they have smoking in the casino we did not go in.
  16. I received my sports coat back in a few hours. Asked my steward nicely. The ruined a blouse and we were told to go to the shops and find a replacement. Both in a veranda. Amazing what can happen if one is clear, states just facts, and offered a solution that is reasonable
  17. Correct. To do all those things suggest calling on a weekday morning and doing it on the phone or waiting till on board OR having a tech savvy child or grandchild help you.
  18. The info you want is there. Just lost in the verbiage. Your husband CAN downgrade to a Zero Proof package. Simply needs a doctor's note saying he should not drink alcohol because of health reasons. But, if part of AI package no refund. You would need to pay the upgrade to get a premium package
  19. And we liked whale watching. Lots of excursion info in the ports forum. You will get more answers there about a specific port.
  20. Lots of changes, today as in many ports need to locate excursion operators then go through insurance and other requirements. Have had excursions open and disappear without warning - assume those are sold out. Also had them not appear until on board.
  21. Yes. You should be able to edit the app at any time and add a stored picture. Can have them snap photo at boarding too.
  22. Understand. Laundry is dumped out of "your bag" on a table. Whites and lights like underwear are put into a mesh bag and washed with lots of other bags. You whites won't be pink but not likely to be as white as when you wash at home. Heavier stuff usually gets a laundry tag and is washed with "similar" colors. It is not perfect. DW whites come back less than a bright white. Fragile things or jeans truly need to be washed in the sink using shampoo. Rolled up in a bath towel. Walk on the towel and hang to dry. Jeans 2 days. All else overnight. A steamy shower takes care of most wrinkles. Utube has videos that show the bag size and how to wash on board. A couple pairs of Levi's would fill a bag. We also have done lots of laundry. Had colored items faded. Some fragile items shrunk - our fault as they said no hot wash.
  23. If are going alone you will get double points. That is all that matters. After the cruise if your wife and your accounts are linked she will get points too.
  24. And the ship is in great condition. Since I usually do not book suites will not notice the difference or if it is done.
