  1. Someone is doing a Live From thread on the Summit this week. Perhaps if you ask nicely, they would walk up to the spa and ask the question for you.
  2. The need to download when on the ship comes into play if you have an Ebook on hold at your local library. You get a text or email when it is available, and then you have something like 3 days to log in and download it, or lose your place in line. Also, there are sites that will email you free and cheap books to download on a daily basis. Yes, under regular circumstances, you can do your downloads before you leave home.
  3. Oops, just noticed this - I was thinking of another line. Oh well, Amazon may be the same issue here, or may help someone with this same issue on "the other" line.
  4. I believe it is Amazon access where the issue lies, not just the Kindle. I use the Kindle app on my Pad mini for reading, which delivers the books through Amazon. I also discovered the issue being discussed when trying to download library books. So, no Amazon access, no book downloads. My Library has since changed its delivery system to Libby, which is an option that should work on a HAL ship. Perhaps someone can confirm.
  5. If you go the website listed in post #6, there are several pricing options shown
  6. https://www.randomwind.com/ They only take 18 or so and sell out frequently. This close to your cruise may be too late, but they are the best on the island. IMO
  7. I don't golf, but friends on a cruise with me played Sandy Lane last Feb. and had nothing but good to say about it. That said, there really is a lot to see on Barbados - maybe look at a private tour that includes St Nicholas Abbey (old manor house and rum operation) and a drive across the island to Bathsheba for lunch.
  8. It looks like the Cruise Connection bus picks up in St Petersburg, if you don't mind starting out at Oh Dark Thirty https://www.cruiseconnection.travel/rates/ft-lauderdale-miami/
  9. Following - especially looking forward to reading about your time going up the Amazon. I'll be on the Zaandam in 2025 for the Amazon Explorer. Enjoy !
  10. Exactly. This is what I have done on iPhone and iPad for years. Never used the app even when it existed. Just save boards.cruisecritic.com to your landing page, and you are there in one click (tap) .
  11. @IdebI know this doesn't help, but if you can enlarge this a bit, you can see Venezuela on the horizon. Taken from a resort in Curacao. I would guess that if you did find a driver to take you to a vantage point in Aruba, this is about what you would see. You can also watch the map channel on the cabin tv (if your ship has a good one), during sail in and sail out to see if/when you get nearer to the Venezuelan mainland.
  12. And as my attorney says, "Fair is where you go to get cotton candy" .
  13. A cocktail ordered as you leave somewhere, to take with you. Useful, for example, to take into the dining room rather than wait for a DR server. We call then roadies, as in "one for the road".
  14. La Romana is port stop in the Dominican Republic, not Dominica. Not even close.
  15. There is a group that uses a meeting room at my local library. A friend calls it the "Stitch and Bitc#" club.
  16. I am doing a 28 day Amazon Explorer on Holland America, R/T Ft. Lauderdale. We get to the mouth of the Amazon (in Brazil) on day 8. Before that , we have stops in St Maarten, St. Lucia, Tobago, and Devil's Island , Guyana. 8 days to get back, stopping in Barbados, Dominica, and Tortola. So, if there was no dilly dallying along the way, a ship could get quite far south in 14 days. But, as mentioned, the stops along the way will be nice. AFAIK, HAL it the only line that does that region R/T from Ft Lauderdale. They go once a year.
  17. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/456-caribbean/ https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/35-bahamas/ Here are the Port of Call boards. Take a few minutes to check there, and you will get lots of ideas.
  18. Americans will recognize this as the Vivek Rameswamy syndrome.
  19. Have you checked hotels dot com or any of the other hotel search engines? You will probably find more information there. This is a cruise board, after all, and not a lot of cruise ships go out of Jax.
  20. If you are an AAA member, they have a Visa that gives 3% cash back on all travel. Rental car, airline, cruise, hotel. No annual fee, but I suppose the membership could be considered a fee, if you only use it for the credit card. Currently also giving 5% on gas, which is nice.
  21. 28 day Amazon Explorer r/t FT Lauderdale is what sold me...no flights involved.
  22. The tours inside are run by Space Center staff. So, why not get an Uber from PC to the main entrance, and either arrange a return pick up or contact them again to return to the ship. All you need is transportation there and back. Tickets aren't cheap, so check the website for any specials. They used to have Sr. Citizen, AAA, etc, but I haven't been in a while. https://www.kennedyspacecenter.com/
