Check your itinerary as to when you ship will port. Many years ago on another cruise line we tendered at Villa Franche , next to Monaco and Nice. We took the train to Nice. It was easy peasy, it took 15 minutes to get to Nice. Their train station is lovely. We spent most of the day in Nice and took train back. Love this coast of France.

Our 2018 TA on the Viking Sea did port at Funschal. Great day on the island. We did miss Casablanca. It was the second time I missed once on Celebrity and then on Viking Sea. But I have been to Tangiers twice!

My sister and I are going on a Viking cruise in early June. both of us got COVID in Feb. Both mild cases. I even got the therapeutic prescription but did not use it . so I am bringing it along on our cruise and some self tests. but I feel we will still have some immunity in June. Santa Fe and others, hope you all. have a quick recovery. Viking was following protocol during pandemic, when we were on two cruises. They are following protocol now IMO. . It is up to each of us as adults to not spread any illness while we are on a ship if we become sick.

I have so enjoyed your live trip report. I am sad that your cruising has come to an end for now. Thank you for taking time each day with photos and reporting on life around the ships you were on . I felt I was traveling with you two. Best wishes for future cruising.🤩

Thinking about doing a Azamara cruise, but if there is no shuttle when the pier docking and no a ride into town , it is not a good thing in their favor. Are they down grading their amenities in this regard?

Who is the resident Historian on your cruise? Who is the Cruise director? General manger? Who is the head chef?

Doing Scenic Scandinavia in June., with pre days and post days in Stockholm and Copenhagen.Going to go the land of my people for the very first time after 8 European cruises in the Med. and Iberian peninsula.. I have found my home on Viking Ocean cruises. The service is outstanding, and the passengers are interesting, well travelers, curious , friendly and love the beauty of the ship. The resident historian and the interaction while on board, , the diversity of the ideas and the world, and love of history of all kind is a big feature. It is also not a US cruise line and it shows. 🥰 I am interested also in Explora Journey , new luxury cruise line by MSC. For the first years or so , everyone will be new passengers so all the quaint nostalgia of past cruises and what folks now need will not be an issue.

Looking forward to your next great trip report. I love Mexico and have spent many winter months there in the past. Your daughter will love the ports, colors and friendly people who love children. It will be warm , sunny with flowering plants all over the place. Perfect this time of year for those from the Midwest!

We are staying two night in Sodermaln area at the NOFO hotel before the start of our Viking cruise in June. We will go to old town to explore on on our own , visit the Nobel Peace Prize museum and look forward to local lunch , dinner in both areas. Any suggestions ?

I had golden margarita when I was on Viking Ocean. It was even better than a regular kind. Pool bartender made me one at his suggestion. I and others drank them for the rest of the week..

I am also boarding the Viking Jupiter in Stockholm, which begins with an overnight. The Vasa museum is an optional tour on MJV for the second day in port. If you do it on your own, suggest you leave your bags at the hotel and go to Vasa museum as early as possible. then back to hotel and take a taxi to ship. Even if you arrive in mid afternoon, you should be fine for booking on board reservations. I am on my roll call and some passengers do not get into Stockholm till late morning or early afternoon with Viking Air.of the first day of our cruise. So they will also drop off their bags and go exploring . Don't know when you re sailing but did see on this thread that Viking now has reservations on MJV to include other friends. You need add their account number and put in the reservation system. Enjoy the sail away from Stockholm which others have told me is spectacular

Thank you for your detail trip report. The reason I sail on Viking is the ship and crew. The ambience is exactly what I want. I came from Celebrity which I did like too. But now I do not want to have to figure out all their promos, categories, up charges ,not interested in their large ships etc. And their M and S class ships are much darker than Viking . I want to be able to see both the ocean /sky for the most part when I am on the ship. I am sorry you did not eat in MDR. I don't eat in WC for dinner because my travel companion wants table service for dinner. The food on Viking is fine for me with lots of variety in different restaruants. I am so looking forward to my Scenic Scandivian cruise in June. I learned long time ago to interpret the ship excursions for what they are really providing. It also depends on the tour guide. Some are excellent and other just so, so. I also have organized private excursions on various cruises which I found great tour guides and tailor made the excursion for what I wanted to see. It seems, after Covid, roll calls are not full of folks wanting or offering to organize private excursions. It is what is is. Good luck to you in future cruising on Viking or other lines.

We always request a carafe of sparkling water and bucket of ice for our room, besides what is in our refrigerator. We stay in DV rooms.

OH NO, not Mamsen. it is a delicious Scandinavian deli. Love it all, including liverposti for lunch, herring for breakfast, all the desserts, Success cake! and all the rest. I have yet to try the pea soup late in the evening. My next cruise has no sea days, so I do not think I will be up at Explore lounge at 10:30 pm. Tak!

Oh yes, also lovely lanai areas along side the pool area , with floor to ceiling windows. these fill up quickly on sea days . There are a multitude of places on a Viking ship to relax and read and watch the ocean /sky. while reading...Be sure to explore all common space if this is your first cruise once you are on board. Enjoy 😍

Happy to follow this trip report. As an old Celebrity ,current Viking Ocean ,cruiser, I am interested in maybe doing an Azamara cruise in Eastern Europe, Greek ports . Love to read a trip report and get the views of current cruisers and the ambience on board. BrazilGirl, thanks for the pictures of the ship , keep them coming. My only hesitation is trying to figure out the various pricing, promos, included upcharges etc. Viking is very straight forward in pricing and TA obc.

Great points. Yes, when I first had a Starbucks coffee in late 90’s in Seattle I knew I was not in in the MidWest ! The more I think about it I think coffee is like beer , everyone had their favorite taste and texture .

I agree that the coffee at Viking Bar is great and made one cup at a time, expresso based. I also have had coffee at mamsen's for breakfast, the waiter comes around and pours coffee and sometimes leaves a carafe on the table. When eating breakfast in the World cafe, we always get our food and eat outside. Again waiter comes around with coffee. I think the coffee poured is jsut fine. I drink coffee black, except for an occasional cappuccino. I love coffee and grind whole beans every morning for my morning coffee at home.

Check out what the perks are for booking while on your TA. If you are a gambler , you could wait and hope for a special deal for your Hawaiian cruise next Fall to fill the ship that would match the price that you would get on board booking, We booked while on board for an Alaska cruise for 2023, We t switched to Scenic Scandinavia June 2023. After we switched last Summer , the price of cruise went down a couple hundred $ , and later they added Silver Spirit package this Fall. Viking does not give you the lower price . Now the cruise is sold out. Your choice.... Mr. Gambler. 🤩 We booked our own airfare. But the Hawaiian cruise is airfare within USA same port of departure.
