  1. No additional charge. go to Guest relations and ask about reserving the private dining room. We did that with a group from our roll call on a previous TA cruise We selected off the Manfredi's menu . It was a lovely evening.
  2. Your post tickled my funny bone. I have this image of your DH in the middle of a gale in the middle of the ocean , wanting to see "What is happening outside ". .. does he have Viking blood in him ? 😀
  3. thank you for posting this review. I look forward to future installments. Your pictures are amazing of Dominica.
  4. Go to MVJ and hit the Payment Cart . open that topic. You will see Payment method and and credit card. It is more a tab than button. I hit the Payment method each time I booked an excursion. I had already pre loaded my ACH account from my bank before hand. You can use this if you wan to pay for beverage package before you board. Hope this helps.
  5. Love Palau de Music building. its stain glass ceiling is fabulous. We did a post extension with Viking in Barcelona. My 4th time in the great city. We had the Viking rep at hotel call and reserved tickets for us for guitar concert that evening. The lobby area serves wine and tapas before the performance and they have a lovey gift shop. The concert was wonderful , even had some flamenco dancers . It was an unforgettable evening, I will always cherish.
  6. Thanks you for your trip review. As a Viking cruiser, I appreciate your detailed photos and description of Azamara Onward ship. Thanks for providing the menus, so I can see the variety and themed dinners offered on board. Azamara is on my list of other cruise lines to try, especially for their in depth itineraries.
  7. Clay, I am enjoying your report of your TA on NCL. TA are so relaxing. I remember you said that you were going to spend time in Paris before your next segment of your cruise vacation. Lots of protest today all over France about rising the retirement age to 64. I loved Funchal port. had coffee and pastel de nata at a cafe in the square near the cathedral. Lovely city. Look forward to your pictures.
  8. Love it, on your way to Duluth on 23? Yes, you are right. Partridge I think is also the township name. Danko group of Danes from Iowa and Tyler MN they bought land after the HInckely fire. Named the town Askov, and the school was called Hans Christian Andersen. They were the rutabaga capital of the US. Their summer festival is Rutabaga Days in August. They still have food booths that sell fresh made abelskiver. Still have cousins who live in the area. Askov has the historical museum of Pine County, it is housed in the old school.
  9. I love your new profile picture, and its personal elements. 2024 will be great year for both of you. What marvelous cruises you will do. Lots of time to do great research. I am going on the Scenic Scandinavia cruise June12-22. This cruise and then following one are the only time it will be done. It is re-imaged "Baltic/ Russia" former cruises Viking always offered. I picked it because I have never been to the Baltic or Scandinavia , the home of my ancestors! My mother was 100% Danish, raised in small MN Danish town ,Askov. My sister and I are staying three night in Stockholm before boarding the Viking Jupiter. We are staying Sodemalm area , right above the pier where Viking ship will dock. I have been reading two books :!. Danish , Swedish Kings from oral history , sagas various histories up to 1010, 2. a book on cultural history of Northern Europe. So different than Southern European roots in the GR/Roman empires. Looking forward to new museums, castles, fishing villages, and the Sea. We go to three Swedish ports, Poland, Germany and three Danish ports ending in overnight on ship in Copenhagen. We are doing the post extension and will be there on June 23 St. Hans Eve,(midsummer) Danes light bonfires all over the place , dance, drink and burn "German witches" made of paper. HA.Dates back to ancient and Middle Ages customs.. I will do a live trip report.I am only taking my iPhone for photos and wright a narrative. I will have a short glass of Aquavit tonight herein the Explorer lounge Cheers, my friend. Patti
  10. I checked out your post extension for your cruise on Viking Web site. Using my "Viking speak" decipher, I read the tour as part of your extension in Istanbul. IMO it says you will go inside the Blue Mosque ., walk the area of hippodrome to Hagia Sophia and learn about it while being outside , then off to Grand Bazaar inside for the rug demo and free time to walk around. All guides in Turkey are licensed by the state and all are very knowledgable about the sites and history of place on their tours. . All speak multiple languages I have done viking post extension in Barcelona and the tour was mostly a bus ride with nice stops at various overlooks and waterfront to stretch legs take pictures. The guide was very good. all these tours on post extension day makes sense. Get off ship in morning and do a tour and get to hotel in afternoon and get checked in. Yours is definitely more involved with touring inside the Blue Mosque and the grand Bazaar. I also didi see that your sailing has a privilege access exclusion ,evening in Hagia Sophia! It would be really wonderful to tour it with just guide and Viking folks. I am sure it is very expensive. On my upcoming cruise, there is one privilege access excursion and it was sold out quickly ! What a great cruise you are taking!
  11. I hired private guide for the Blue Mosque and we went inside. The Hippodrome is the space between the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia It was the hippodrome which Constantine built. Today the guide will point out the contours of this space and the obelisk from Egypt. and other points of interest as we walked tot he Hagia Sophia. We were inside for aobut hour and half walking to top and back down as our guide pointed out the mosaics and history of the original church. The Grand Bazaar you can do on your own by tram or walking if you are staying in the only part of town. We were there for a half day., wandering around after I bought a rug (had pre arranged appointment with rug dealer ). Other great sights: the Cistern, the great underground space that provided water to the city. It is next to the Hagai Sophia. Also the Topkapi palace complex. We had a private guide for the whole afternoon. I suggest you keep your private guide after you see the highlights with he Viking tour. With a private guide they will buy your tickets and you get into the site quickly. I loved Istanbul and the food is great. Lots of outdoor cafes and do try Turkish coffee , it is an event. We were there many years ago in late Oct after our cruise.
  12. I reread my post and should have used the word pause in reference to meet and mingle , my error. 😕 I do think a campaign to editors of CC to "UNPAUSE' their online registration would solve the problem for roll call folks in figuring out how on do get a list together for Viking guest relations. I remember our wonderful two meet and mingle events on our TA cruise where I met you and your lovely wife and others who I see still posting on CC. Meanwhile, I am counting down the weeks (6) till I am again on a Viking ship.🥂 BTW, I hope to visit the Fotografiska museum when in Stockholm. Have you been there? I hope to do a live trip report of my cruise including my three days in Stockholm.
  13. All CC meet and greet registration have been suspend. It is on their CC front page at meet and greet link at top of front page. It was paused during the pandemic but now not going to happen like they didi in the past. I think it is great that Viking is willing to hosting roll calls m&g on their sailings. It is always such a fun time and usually in the Wintergarden, my favorite space on any ship. I think CC has lot fewer posters overall. And the moderators are fewer too. Trip Advisor owns Cruise Critic ,wish they allow dm on both sites. Trip Advisor used to do this. In fact my moniker is the one I originally on Trip Advisor many years ago.. Way back in 2008 I organized three private tours on our roll call. Alll those interested messaged me on Trip advisors using the direct message feature. I much prefer Cruise Critic than FB groups!!!!!! I find their format too jumbled with the way they format posts.
  14. Peregrina, I have already asked our roll call what they want to do … it is up to them . Everyone is different about these things and I understand your suggestions . Very great group of folks from US Canada and UK. looking forward to meeting them on our cruise even at our informal gathering which we planned.
  15. Kent, Thank you so much for the details of how you contacted ship guest relations etc. I will do the same. We have 16 couples on our roll call. Just need to get them to post their real names and room number s for the list. It is nice to know Viking will do the m&g again . I have such fond memories of precovid times. Our cruise in June does not have any sea day but overnights on both ends of the cruise.
  16. On reading about Sweden, Denmark , people do not tip . They have good wages. So I will follow the custom of the country. It was taxis I saw where the VAT tax is 25% based on the fare. Do not mind I am going to expensive countries. It is the land of my ancestors!!!!💕
  17. I am only going to tip my guide and driver on Viking excursions per suggestion of Viking. I will tip in Euros.. Otherwise I will not leave a tip in Sweden, Denmark , Poland or Germany. Just pay the price of goods and services which includes a very nice VAT tax.
  18. Looks like Viking Mars guest relation hosted a meet and greet for roll call members this month in WinterGarden with invitations delivered to stateroom. Just like in the pre pandemic days on Cruise Critic. "papak-cruiser 168 August 1, 2015 Florida Author #192 Posted Sunday at 07:56 AM We finalized the Meet & Mingle with Viking Mars Guest Relations. It will take place in the Wintergarden Lounge at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, April 25. Those of you who signed up with us, should be getting formal invitations from Viking tomorrow (April 24) with the details. Viking wanted 6:00 PM rather than 5:30 PM, since they have to clean up and get ready after afternoon tea in the Wintergarden. For those staying on to Athens, we are planning a similar Meet & Mingle event to include folks getting on in Mumbai. We are looking at the first "at sea" day after embarkation from Mumbai and probably at 6:00 PM. " This poster is on the Mars for 35 days. Wonder if other folks saying currently have asked guest relation to host a gathering? I will be on a 11 day sailing on Jupiter and have organized an informal meeting with roll call folks on day two , a hours before sailaway near the infinity pool outside. I would love to have Viking organize a gathering if I can figure out how to do it before we sail in 47 days. Amy ideas how to contact guest relations before we sail ? Any ideas ,fellow cruisers?
  19. Viking offers an excursion for the canal boat ride. We are ending our Viking Jupiter cruise on an overnight in Copenhagen June 21-22. Look at your excursions when they come out on MVJ. The canal boat ride was in afternoon and sold out in a couple of days after we could book our excursions. Hope this is an option for you on your cruise. Our sailing has no sea days , so I will make one port a sea day for myself. I know what you mean about long walks as we get older. Don't know about shuttle, this is my first cruise to all these ports of call.
  20. I love Barcelona and especially Gaudi buildings. Your pictures are great. Another bit of trivia about the little fort in harbor of Marseille. When we were there on a tour the guide also said the fort was also used for quarantining ships, during the times of the Black Plague, a number of days before before allowed to dock harbor side.
  21. I did try to find Guido Bandelini online. He was a tour guide in Tuscany . Saw images of him , a lot older but could not find his web site. my tour was in 2008 and my friends in 2015 .
  22. Well my cruise is sold out and none on the roll call have said anything about being offered to rebook. I look forward to a full ship. Last two cruises during COVID we only had about 300 passengers. I am getting so excited that my cruise is less than two months away! 🎉🥂
  23. Once on board check your daily. It will be left in your room.Pre Covid, Viking had special lunches and grilling on the deck by infinity pool. Also the seafood dinner offerings in World cafe will be posted in daily. We had appetizers there on Seafood night then went to Restaurant for late dinner. Also sometime they had special events around the pool. But this was all pre Covid. During Covid ,, I did two sailing. One of them had a great Greek offerings for lunch. It was fabulous.I think it just depends. I will be on Scenic Scandinavia, on Jupiter, June 12-22/and we do not have any sea days, so I will make one on my own. Have a great cruise.
  24. Thank you so much for the information! Will take the bus or maybe even walk if it is a very nice day to old town area. So looking forward to our stay in Stockholm before our cruise on the Baltic Sea.
  25. Yes, thank you for the suggestion. I have download the latest Goggle app for my iPhone. Even looking at a YouTube tutorial on all the features of this app. I was hopping someone in Stockholm or someone who has been to Stockholm could give me an idea how far our hotel is from old town and the terrain , very hilly or not?
