  1. Looks great, now I just have to get up the courage to venture into Hawaiian Gardens.
  2. My friend had the Discovery booked for next week on a GYT cat BE cabin. He used the Interline Fare and booked with FCC. A few days ago he got an upsell email. $620pp to upgrade to club class mini or $40pp for Deluxe Balcony. He got a cabin yesterday D4 category. The Princess site showed all cabins sold out except the Inside Cat. Looks like a way to get more $$ than to involuntarily moving people around to assign GTY folks. We always book the cabin we want and mark NO Upgrade.
  3. When I went walking on Monday, the ship had moved from anchorage to the dock. The week before while walking, I saw tenders down on several days and crew doing exercises. We have friends heading out on this Sats sailing also, hope all goes well.
  4. We will be on a Princess cruise in March 2024 that stops at both Arlie Beach and Port Douglas. Do you know if Quicksilver is the contracted company for the GBR excursions? Arlie is 2hrs transit and says 90 mins from Port Douglas. Any thoughts on what stop would be better to go to GBR. We might even go twice. Being raised in the water in Hawaii, we can't wait to visit this wonder. Mahalo
  5. My friend got an upgrade email offer yesterday for the 10/01 Discovery coastal. He is in a GTY cat BE and has yet to be assigned a cabin. He had a min bid of $248pp for a Club Class mini. He bid the min $40pp for a Deluxe balcony. It will be interesting to see what he gets, all cats show "sold out" except for inside cabins.
  6. We flew in and out of Vancouver. First time i missed not being in uniform to be able to use crew line. All in all, a great trip. We did splurge for hotels and stayed at Pan Pacific and Fairmont at the airport.
  7. We had done the 10day from SFO 3 times. This year we did the 14day from Vancouver. We loved our day in Whittier. Seeing Glacier Bay twice was fantastic. We had great weather. Make sure if you do this itinerary you book the small boat tour at Hubbard Glacier. Book it early if you want to go, it shouldn't be missed. We were on the Royal. I wasn't sure how I'd like the MINI balconies but it was fine. Hot tubs and pool was in use almost everyday.
  8. I always carry duct tape. Blue paint tape is easier to remove and works good on the sensor. Ask room steward, if you can't reach that high.
  9. I was trapped in Long Beach for 3 months as I didn't want to have to fly to SFO first then on to HNL.
  10. I was taking my tests at LAX. Flying non rev was great, I'd get upset if someone was even sitting next to me in FC or within 2 rows of me in da back
  11. A friend of ours tripped and fell in the MDR. Hurt her shoulder pretty bad. They contacted a lawyer that specialized in cruise ship mishaps. His answer was to continue with Princess. They got a bunch of FCC that satisfied them. Must be a lot more than a missed port or to small of a selection of wines, to involve an attorney. These ships aren't flagged in foreign countries just for the taxes.
  12. Depending on time of day. I got back into LAX at 2330 last night. Uber/Lyft $90.00+. We took a cab and itwas $60.00. We have a place in Signal Hill which overlooks Long Beach. Approx 17 miles from airport to our place. Use a cab fare estimator and a cab might be best bet for 4 of you. No matter, you either have 2 cab stands 1 in International parking area and 1 in LAXIT lot . If you need a ride directly from your arrival terminal, (LAXIT lot is across from Terminal 1 , SWA terminal) you can use Uber Black or a private transport company. They can pick up directly in front of arrivals
  13. Does the Moxy have any of the Marriott perks, ie: Lounge? Does Room2 have AC? We won't be there till late Sept, but if it's anything like this year ac will be a must.
  14. We starting cruising with my Mom till she passed at 94. She liked the TD and early dining. My wife and I like the DMW and chose 6:20 on the Royal on our 14day Alaska cruise. We got the same table and staff each night. We cancelled when we knew we wouldn't be there. Next 28day cruise we have 6:00 dining for the whole cruise. We don't need a window, we just want a 2 top with 2 push in chairs and not the bench. ATD was a mess, line up and wait, that's why we'll never go back on NCL.
  15. Deckhand Dave's is awesome. If there before opening, the dive bar across the street has cold beer.
  16. Our favorite port was Whittier ( done a few other Alaska cruises ). We walked into town first but wanted to go to town housing building. Didn't realize there was a tunnel under tracks. We backtracked to go to apt building ( forget name). There are a few trails to the right of the building to a stream . Nice easy walk. Then we headed back to town through tunnel and visited stores. Bought some fudge then lunch at Oceanview Cafe. Great non touristy day. Great people in town.
  17. We did the 14day RT out of Vancouver May 28th on the Royal. I was able to stream Youtube every night.
  18. We figure my wife got it about day 12 out of 14 on the Royal from Vancouver.. Our room steward disappeared around that day also. We didn't test as all she had was a scratchy throat that we attested to her snoring from her dinner Bellini's. Test at home before seeing the grandkids and poof, she was positive. An example of someone not knowing they're sick and still out and about. We did have masks on in crowded areas. I escaped with not getting it.
  19. Skagway Fish Company on the way back to the ship was very good.
  20. We had Crab Legs years ago but none this year with the "Alaska Experience Dining" menu . I love Deckhand Dave's and the dive bar across the street.
  21. Crab legs on Alaskan cruises would be nice.Taco night not so much, better on shore.
  22. There are other car rental agencies outside of Waikiki also, but depending on your plans could be your best choice. If you plan on driving around Oahu I'd start by heading to the North Shore first and early. Depending on the day of the week and the surf season, the North Shore can be one of the busiest most congested areas on the Island. By going clockwise around the Island, you'll be going against the traffic. As you come back from the east side (da best side😀) the traffic won't start till mid town. If you've rented a car from Waikiki it's easy to get back into Waikiki and either a short public bus ride or cab/Uber ride back to the ship. You also have Ala Moana on the way back if you need anything.
