  1. Traveling with my Mom, she had her own balcony room, I'd remove the center bedside, and move the beds tightly together. I'd have her drive her scooter all the way in till she hit the mini fridg and stop. In the am I was able to spin it around and face it outbound and charge it. She was still able to pass by the scooter to get to the bathroom. To get more room, you could also move the other bedside table but then 1 person has to go off the bottom of the bed to get out.
  2. The Royal class ships sail outside the Inner Passage due to their size and turning capacity. Make sure what ever itinerary you chose includes Glacier Bay. This was our 4th trip to Alaska, the first 3 out of SFO, this one a great 14day rt from Vancouver. Awesome trip, we really enjoyed Whittier.
  3. Princess basically threatened that if my wife tested positive by their test it was a MANDATORY 10day quarantine in Vancouver. Bus was full to Seattle and once in quarantine you had to stay in quarantine for full 10 days.
  4. We requested a table with 2 push in chairs and were given a great table on the Royal in the Concerto dining room. Felt very comfortable with distancing. We had a 6:20 private table table. Liked the time as it was a "slack" time between early line-up diners and the 7-7:30 show crowd.
  5. Just google a view. On the Royal, you could see down several floors and banks of rooms.
  6. Is that the old Rain Maker hotel? My wife and I "got together" at that hotel in Sept 86 and we are going on this cruise to celebrate my retirement.
  7. I bring Propel and Gatorade Zero packs to put into my water. Need to keep those electrolytes up.
  8. I once gave my wife a box at Christmas that on the outside said "Your new pajamas for our cruise". Of course the box was empty.
  9. Look for the guy in the hot tub with a beer, I'll make you feel welcomed. Good to see someone close to our age will be on the cruise, I'lll be 64, wife will be 60.
  10. Sure would've been nice to know the "real" reason our room steward disappeared 3 days before the end of our cruise. My wife tested positive the day we got home.
  11. My wife and I wore our masks and still do. My wife tested positive as soon as we got home. No shows for us and only about half the nights we ate in a specialty or main dining room. People were very courteous and would either skip elevator or mask up. As they say YMMV.
  12. The ship goes into dry dock in October. We're waiting till it comes out and see if the propulsion problem is fixed. That must be on the top of the job list. Princess will lose too much money not to fix this ship. Can see where shipyards were backed up from being shut down and a problem that was assumed to be able to fixed at sea can't. Cruises after dry dock will tell. The ones in harms way are those that have final payment before seeing if fixed. We have been able to transfer our Covid 2020 FCC to the March cruise so we'll stick it out.
  13. A lot of postings have said "never again" on Princess. As a 40yr airline employee, I've heard this about every place I've flown. The grass isn't always greener on the other side and the only real way to find out is experience. We've sailed with several companies and there's only 1 we've said " never again". We've cruised now twice since the restart on Carnival and Princess and had good times on both. It seems most of the negative posting have been about Covid protocol and the Crowns continuing maintenance problems. We just returned from 14days on the Royal and have very few complaints. Our room steward "disappeared" 2 days before the end of our cruise as he wasn't feeling well. I discussed with medical what the protocol was if my wife tested positive in Vancouver ( she had a scratchy throat that i thought was from Bellini's), they basically said 10days in Vancouver. Don't test with us as you'll be forced into 10days in YVR, so I asked about going to Seattle. Those hotels and the bus was full or so I was told. I'll leave it at that. Felt a little bullied but they would've taken care of quarantine. My wife tested positive when we got home. Just a scratchy throat. 2x boosted helps! On the Royal, there were no maintenance problems I could see. We slowed down and missed Victoria, due to 40-50mph winds, but it was for a smoother ride. Medallion was a little wonky, somethings worked better than others. Didn't hear any complaints. I couldn't order Michelob Ultra from app so that was a downer. First cruise I actually NEVER saw a line at customer service. The 2 times we interacted with the desk the service was awesome. On the day in Whittier all medallions dumped door info. Young man said here's my extension you call and I'll come to your room, you don't come back. Food portions were a little bit smaller, but then ordering 2 entrees didn't look so bad. Room pizza was excellent, so was the cheese burger. We chose 6:20 as our dining time and had no problem getting same table every time we went to dining room. Buffet food was fine. Sometimes better than others. Didn't know there were so many varieties to Corned Beef Hash. Previously i always looked for the left over scrambled egg medley, this time it was the Corned Beef. No waiting at bars, servers were all around. Couldn't sit at the bar, but you could walk up and order. Both Crown and Sabattini's were open so staffing coming back. Only 1 buffet line was open and didn't see any major line. Horizon Bistro always had opened spaced tables. We aren't big show room people, we cruise to spend time together, time apart, and just relaxing so can't comment on shows since restart. We did have a few movie nights in our cabin. Found the BEST hot tub on a cruise ship. Deck 17 starboard side. Benefit, you have sight line to Mermaids tail bar! Did hear some folks that came close to missing cruise due to EZAir. They did praise Princess for having a rep with taxi vouchers waiting for them in YVR Overall, we had the same excellent service we have come to expect on Princess. We Love the crew and like to interact with them, for me mostly the bartenders. We have 97 more days booked through 2024 and took this cruise to try out a Royal class ship and to see if all the negative experience we've read about were spread over the whole fleet. We bought 4 more FCD's on this cruise. Everyone has their own expectations over what their cruise experience should be. For some any break from these expectations can be a game changer and that's their choice. I'm not to judge what and how others feel. We have had a good experience on both our CCL ships, and wouldn't have hesitated to jump to another line if our experience had been radically different from what we expected, I had started looking at Celebrity. Just wanted to express some positive thoughts on our experience, ship was only 65% or so filled. As normal for Alaska, a lot of first time cruisers. Will be different when ships start to fill up, if they do. Our next cruise is 28day R/T LA on the Crown. We're confident that the propulsion problems will be corrected in it's October dry dock. If not then HAL does a variation of the same cruise and we'll have time to make decision prior to final payment. Aloha
  14. It looks like the 29th will be the first day that 2 mega ships are scheduled. There will be the NCL Encore and the Discovery Princess. Should be interesting.
  15. We take our kids and grandkids on Carnival when we want to cruise with them. Carnival offers so much more for them and we get to go to adult comedy shows with kids. We also like the adult only areas on the Carnival ships. Princess is still the go to for just the 2 of us.
  16. We've cruised on RCCL, Carnival, NCL, and Princess out of LA. RCCL was on a very old ship since retired. NCL, once never again not for us. HAL we've sailed out of San Diego which was very nice. We've sailed Carnival several times both alone and with our kids. We sailed on the new Panorama in Feb. and will sail on her again. Nice adult only area and not as Las Vegas as the older ships. Hope Princess brings back the 14day Alaska, and the 19day cruise down to Panama Canal and overnight in Gatun Lake. Our next cruise is 28day South Pacific out of LA, still sticking with Princess.
  17. We've had NO problems with the Medallion so far in programming and downloading. I've been able to schedule our dining all the way through 04/2024 cruises. Have found out Patience is a must when dealing with the app. If it's not responding as you'd like, wait awhile and come back to what you were trying. On the ship, if you don't see your picture in the top left, log out and re log back in. I had to have my medallion reprogrammed once early on and then on "turn around day" although we booked a 14day cruise. my wife used the room service menu alot for pizza and loved it. Seemed only her room service orders would go through, mine wouldn't. I ordered and Crown Grill order was all messed up, but we didn't get charged! First sea day I approached a waiter at the Seaview bar and ordered 2 beers. I told him I'd be right up the stairs in the starboard deck 17 hot tub. I gave him a few $1 to make sure. He disappeared.I went back down to the bar and he said medallion said I was in the cabin. My wife did get 6 beers to our cabin. We aren't slaves to our phones but we did love the availability of menus, hours, activities. I did like the old map on the TV better as it included better weather reporting. My medallion stayed in my pocket and I always ordered directly from a waiter or the bar.
  18. Anchorage news reports that this am after the Discovery was docked and 20 minutes before passengers got off a rock slide damaged the dock. Ship was repositioned to back berth and a RCCL ship was forced to skip the port. Article said that people were getting tendered over to small boat ahrbor. Looking at bridge cam, no one is on the dock.
  19. May28-June4 Northbound from Vancouver, I got more sun then I get at home. Had to buy sunscreen.
  20. I know you could add the Platinum Plus for $40.00 a day previously to certain fares. It was offered for Interline fares.
  21. I found out that on board if your picture isn't there, you have to log out and back in to get all features. We did a b2b which was sold as a 14day. On turn around day, all the names had disappeared on our deck. Had to go and get a hard key card till it was rebooted. I ordered 2 beers and told the waiter I'd be up at the hot tub. My wife got 6 beers delivered to our room? Her medallion was the one that always opened the door no matter who was walking in front. I couldn't order from room service under my name, only hers. I ordered 1 Fillet, ! Lamb, 1 black and blue soup and 1 scallop appetizer. Got 2 lambs, 2 appetizers, and all was cold, But wasn't charged!! Room pizza weel worth the $3.
  22. We were on the Royal from 05-28/06-11. Had a table for 2 ( Table 370, spaced apart from other 2 top and no one on otherside) at 6:20 in Concerto everynight. Never a hassle.
  23. We just did the RT from Vancouver on the Royal. The royal class ships do have to sail outside to Ketchikan, but thats the only difference in routes. We really liked our day in Whittier. I don't think I'd do the Southbound only as Ketchikan was substituted with Victoria ( which we skipped due to slowing for rough weather).
  24. We flew home from Vancouver on first non test day. Got home, tested before seeing Grandkids, looks like another 10days before we can see the boys.
  25. The airlines offered "early" retirement to senior pilots. At my airline i was one of the youngest to get the package as a 62yr old. Traffic rebounded and airlines were left behind the training bubble. I've been offered flying jobs that wouldn't have touched me 2 yrs ago. Combine this with the Baby Boomer retirement wave ( birth years 1956-59 have the highest retirement in next years) and the airlines are struggling to get back to full schedule. You can only throw so much money at a pilot till they get burnt out and need time off.
