  1. Went to Mullet Bay a month ago. We had lounge chairs just by Rosie's. Food was ok ( they claim they have the best ribs in the Caribbean, but no ) Beach was AMAZING, it was my third time at Mullet and it is perfect. The sand is soft, no rocks or seashels, water was PERFECT. The kids are still talking about it today !!!
  2. If docked in Taino Bay I would suggest Monkey Island. It is right there in the port. We did it and it was awesome. If you are docked in Amber Cove or want to get out of the port area, then do Monkeyland
  3. Yes there is. It is a new feature. When you exit the duty free shop, turn left and there are new cabanas right there on the sand with ( I think ) 2 massage table in each. No idea of the cost, but it is there.
  4. If docked in Taino Bay it is a short 5-7 minute walk from port exit. Police officers on almost every corner to ensure security. There are a few food options on Umbrella Street. Then Pink Alley is a short 3-5 minute walk from there. I would suggest using the same route to get back to the port. We ( my 2 teens and I ) walked a bit in town and we quickly understood we were not that safe anymore. A local even told us this was not safe for tourists... To and from Umbrella Street is safe, no problem, but not the rest of the sector...
  5. My point exactly, food waste as per the article in question : " 25 to 30 percent reduction in food waste per person "
  6. The use of a tray in the buffet would result in what do you think ? People getting 2 plates of food, a bowl of soup, a plate of salad, a dessert and 2 drinks. Only to realise they are full after the first huge plate of food they got and the rest in in the garbage 🤷‍♂️ At least here where I live, if you go at a buffet restaurant you will never find a tray. Restaurant would loose so much on wasted food. I am not debating the use of one for someone with disabilities or arthritis or something like that. I am just saying why buffet style restaurant will not provide a tray.
  7. Do not rely on generic website for port schedule for Amber cove. Go to ambercove dot com , the schedule is there. If your ship isn't listed on the day you are in Puerto Plata, it means you are in Taino Bay for sure.
  8. If the official excursion from NCL is sold out, maybe the caves tour is also sold out ? Their web site says "Reservations are recommended, but not necessary. We advise booking in advance by phone" You might do all this travel for nothing, just saw a post in the Bermuda thread about a couple taking a taxi to the caves and it was sold out for the day. I will be there in a week, I didn't make a reservation...I hope there will be spots available.
  9. No we do not have that here in Quebec. What we do have is a government issued health card. We have to show that card at the hospital or at a doctor's office to get free medical. It has a picture, name and logo of the province in hologram on it. It is accepted everywhere here because it is an id given by the government. I guess this is enough go get back on the ship. Thank you all for your help !
  10. Thank you, And I guess WORST case scenario I run on the ship and get the passports for the teens and they could board then.. I guess 🤷‍♂️ I do not feel confortable leaving our passport in a bag on the beach while we swim or something like that.
  11. Good afternoon, I will be cruising with my teens for the first time in a few days and I am wondering what document is required to get back on the ship in ports besides the ship card ( Bermuda and Caribbean ) ? We have our passeport ( we are Canadian ) but I would prefer to leave them on the ship ( more secure ). Is a school ID with picture enough ? My oldest has a driver's licence but not my youngest. I do not feel very secure leaving our passport in a locker in Taino Bay ( in example ) while we go swimming and doing the lazy river and coming back to an empty locker 🥴, that would be a catastrophe ! Thank you all in advance,
  12. The mall will close from January 20th to February 23rd for minor maintenance. Well, that is when I cruise to Bermuda... so 🤷🏻‍♂️ I wanted to shop at 1 shop ( Sidekicks for a Bermuda National Football team jersey ) 🤦🏻‍♂️ Guess I will have to shop in Hamilton.
  13. The later is your boarding time, the faster you will get on the ship. There are almost no lines later in the afternoon
  14. No, they do not enforce the limit unless the suitcase is way way over the limit
  15. Regarding what aspect of the port ? Getting there by car? by bus, by ferry ? Parking ? Luggage drop off ? Checking in ? Waiting lounge ?
  16. I know there are Ubers in Puerto Rico, but I can't find the info for St-Maarten. Anyone here used a service other than the regular taxi ? Thank you all in advance,
  17. I hope. This is the only point I am not 100% sure about my ports on my next cruise. I also want to do it on my own, so we need 4 taxis to complete the day. I am positive from Port to Maho is easy. We are probably walking from Maho to Mullet. Mullet to Marigot is unsure...we might have to walk back to Maho to catch a ride to Marigot. From marigot to the port should be easy also. Maybe if I explain my schedule to the first driver he will offer to drive us to all the places we want to go during the day ? As long as it is less expensive than a shore excursion for the 3 of us ... But I will have a few taxi phone numbers in my phone juste in case tho...
  18. In Samana, a few years ago, there was an outdoor market near the tenders. We had a beer in a local bar just across the market. BUT the HIGHLIGHT of this port was a tour with "tour Samana with Terry". I cannot express how much we LOVED our day. We took the tour at El Limon waterfall on horseback with the buffet for lunch. They told us the tour would be canceled if less than 4 or 5 people booked. They had 5 pax booked but my girlfriend and I were the only one to show up. They still took us and did the tour. Short ride in a private bus with all the drinks included. Horseback in the forest, went down a LOT of stairs 😅 to reach the waterfall, swam in the pool at the bottom, took amazing pictures, went up the stairs and horseback to the start. Had a GREAT lunch with local food prepared fresh. Took the van back to Samana, stopped on the way at a house that makes bread, the guide bought some for us after the lady showed us her oven and how she makes the bread. Then we stopped at a guy's place, he makes "coconut candy", it's shreaded coconut cooked in some sugar sirup and it is soooo sweet and tender ( the guide bought it for us also ) then we ended in Samana. I wish my next cruise was stopping there again. Tour Samana with Terry , I think, has a 100% record for being in time for the ship. Read the reviews and book one of the many tours he offers, you will enjoy that port so much.
  19. This is a port you do not need a ship sponsored tour. You can find great recommendations here on this board for private tours. Not expensive at all and private. The drivers know how to get you to all points of interests before the big bus comes in and you have the place for yourself before the crowd. They are never late for departure and it is a better overall experience by far. Enjoy Bermuda !
  20. If you have multiple dinners included you should buy a package for the third guest. I have 3 meals included for passenger 1-2 and I bought a 3 meal package for my teen ( passenger 3 ) The price of the a la carte items are crazy high... buy a package !
  21. It WAS 20$ for the first 2 and 5$ per extra passengers. They are currently changing the rates I think.
  22. I asked the same question in an other thread and I was told that taxis are easy to get directly at the port. I want to get to Maho asap after the ship docks, so I also want a taxi and not a shared one because I do not want to wait 15 or 20 minutes for the shared one to fill. My ship docks at 12:30 pm and most big planes land between 1 and 3pm so I really want to get to Maho asap !
  23. I have watched many videos about Monkey Island in the port. Have not seen a single opening hour signage. I "think" that most shops, bars, Monkey Island, etc... located in the port will adjust the hours to match the time the ships are in port. I expect it to be open as soon as the passengers can exit the ship. I plan on doing it as soon as we can exit ... I hope it will be open 😬
  24. If you plan on visiting only the caves or the caves and Hamilton I suggest the ferry to Hamilton, taxi to caves, taxi back to Hamilton, visit and ferry to Dockyard. If you want to visit St-Georges and the caves , then ferry to St-Georges, taxi to caves, taxi to St-Georges, visit, ferry to Dockyard If you want to visit the most part of the Island, I would hire a taxi for 4 hours at the Dockyard, go to the caves directly to get there before the tour buses, have him wait while you tour the cave, then you have about 2h - 2h30 to get back to the Dockyard, so you can stop at a few point of interest on your way. $50/h for up to 4 passengers. That is my plan for my upcomming short day in Bermuda. Have fun
  25. Free, buying a drink at the pool bas is "expected" but not required. I read somewhere else that it is hard to find a place if there are 2 ships in port and you are the later one to arrive. I will be there in 67 days and will see for myself !
