Not quite true. On most European cruise lines, the gratuities are included (or no gratuities required), but on USA based cruise lines eg HAL, gratuities are extra. If you are speaking about Europe in general having gratuities included in the price, then again yes and no. Some restaurants have 'service charges' which go to staff.

Earliest debarkation time in Amsterdam?

I knew that and understand the differences. I have no idea why I posted the erroneous information. I apologise for posting misleading and incorrect information. -
Earliest debarkation time in Amsterdam?
VMax1700 replied to gerelmx's topic in British Isles/Western Europe
With Cork as your last port before your disembarkation port, you will have already cleared immigration into EU, so no delays on disembarking. -
Best way to get from Dublin Port to Trinity College?
VMax1700 replied to beepittsburgh's topic in UK Cruisers
Dart (local train service) from the station just beside where the tenders will drop you. You can purchase return ticket from machine in station (credit card). Go to Pearse station or Tara Street station. Be aware that on weekends there is limited service and a late start to the Dart service. Be also aware that it is a commuter service and gets very crowded at peak commute times (including end of the school/college day), so from 4pm onwards as well as the 7.30 - 9.30 am slot. Allow time for your tender back to the ship. And finally.....Dublin is not in the UK, (and, by the way does not use British currency) so perhaps if you posted on the Europe sub forum.......(just sayin'......) 😉 -
Hotel New York just adjacent to the cruise terminal is ok and has a lot of history, being the former head office of Holland America Line.

Transfer from Port C to Barcelona airport...
VMax1700 replied to susan peterson's topic in Spain and Portugal Ports
Do remember to have checked in for the flight and have printed or have your boarding card on your phone. Ryanair charges (a lot!) for airport checkin or for not having a boarding card. I think they allow check in up to 30 days before the flight. -
That is why I wrote 'was scheduled'. The poster did not say why they were trying to find the roll call and it could have been to find someone they met on the cruise. However, although 'already sailed', it did meet 3 of the poster's criteria: Athens, October and 22.
-
Do you mean October 2024? There are two Oosterdam cruises departing Athens. 10 October 2024 and 20 October 2024. There is also a Roll call for a cruise which was scheduled for 22 October 2022. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/search/?type=forums_topic&search_and_or=or&search_in=titles&nodes=228&q=Oct October

Nope, missing nothing. We had a cruise on Courtesy hold last week for May to Norway. euro 899 each for basic cruise (with $100 obc per stateroom), whereas with HIA was 1949 euro each (with $400 obc per stateroom) both for GTY veranda. When I checked HAL Navigator later it offered me the option to purchase HIA for euro 495 each. Obviously full payment was required immediately.

Are the Newgrange tombs in Boyne Valley worth a visit?
VMax1700 replied to cruisinqt's topic in British Isles/Western Europe
I would go with Glendalough and Wicklow. If you can get to Enniskerry and Powerscourt House so much the better. -
"Do not drink the water"...in the Pinnacle Suite
VMax1700 replied to Torquer's topic in Holland America Line
It is quite obvious that the faucet in the toilet/bidet room is connected to the toilet 😉 and in the guest bathroom HAL don't want guests drinking the water unless they have a Beverage Package or pay for it. 😁- 18 replies

Oosterdam Bathroom nightlight VF balcony cabin
VMax1700 replied to Alphen's topic in Holland America Line
Perfect in the bathroom but not much use in guiding you from bed to the bathroom door without crashing into the table, chair or wardrobe. Always bring a nightlight which we put on the floor. -
For European cruises, specially those out of Amsterdam or Rotterdam, there will always be excursions offered in the Dutch Language. On others there will be excursions offered in Spanish. If you only want English language excursions then just select the English language tours and ignore the Dutch or Spanish ones. Easy way to do it is on the left side of the webpage there are 'filters' and you can select the language required for the tour. See image below:

Something strange with BB King band on Nieuw Statendam
VMax1700 replied to Real NHDOC's topic in Holland America Line
Wasn't there also a BBK musician who 'fell' overboard from a ship (maybe NSD) some months ago? -
Others have reported success with sending SMS/text messages via wifi, but it does not work with my carrier, even on the Premium level. I mostly use 'WhatsApp' to make contact via messaging (and also for voice if bandwidth permits a reliable connection).
-
From Port Everglades - yes, on specific airlines from FLL and MIA airports.
-
It has only worked for me (on recent cruises) with the top Premium level. Pre- shutdown it worked on the Surf package. Not a T-mobile customer, but it is not carrier dependant, but HAL settings dependant.

I think we need to be a bit careful here, as 'Wifi' calling is not 'Free'. Instead of using the cellular network, it uses the internet to make a connection to your own network and makes the call through that network. So, if you have an unlimited call bundle, then yes it will be a free call. But if you are at Sea and call a number based in Spain, then the call will, in theory, be chargeable, unless you have an International Call package. I have been told that the best way to think about it is to compare to a Skype call. Skype to Skype over data is free, but if you make a call to a landbased number, then it is chargeable. I will be honest and say that I had always considered Wifi calls as 'free' mostly because I have never been charged for them. But reading up on how it works I can now see that my mobile bundle of data, calls and international calls, covered all the options that I needed and that is the only reason that I was not charged for the wifi calls.

All Dart stations are within a single zone, so you can return from whichever station suits you best.

Refund of HIA Dining Credit when cancelling?
VMax1700 replied to Andona's topic in Holland America Line
The credit will be restored shortly after cancellation. -
I would believe it best to book in the name that she will have on her identity documents/passport/ DL etc.
