  1. Hope the weather wasn't too cold at Apollo Bay. We are in Warrnambool again - (my Mum passed away yesterday morning aged 91) and it was freezing this morning and didn't improve much. Rain coming in now. We are here to Saturday, hopr it is not rainig for the drive home.
  2. Oh my goodness Lyle, I hope your friend is ok and the injured police officers recover quickly.
  3. Good to hear from you Don. We drove close to the Spirit twice last week going to and from Warrnambool. We were taking about when they move their arrivals and departures to Geelong - October 2022 - wondering if it will affect patronage from our side of the bay and further east.
  4. On out last cruise on Golden, we had a great head waiter. We were talking to him as we left the MDR after dinner one night and told him we were going to Crown Grill for dinner the next evening and he asked what time our reservation was. He came and visited us in Crown Grill to check we were being looked after. A nice gesture.
  5. Yes I was talking about cruising resuming in Australia. The OP was talking about cruising to NZ next year.
  6. I was wondering the same Les. Hope all is well with him.
  7. Anything in the central business district (CBD) is convenient to trams and trains. There is a tram which goes almost to Station Pier (109) which could be convenient particularly if you stay close to the tram line. When the route enters the CBD, it travels down Spring Street into Collins and then turns left into Spencer Street which then becomes Clarendon Street and passes Crown Casino on the left and then turns right onto the light rail and continues onto Port Melbourne. Docklands on the western end of the CBD and Southbank across the Yarra River from Flinders Street are also both convenient and have plenty of options. Anywhere in this area would be good. I suggest you check out your favourite hotel chain and/or booking sites to see what is available for the dates you will be in Melbourne.
  8. Thanks Adrian, I was in the garden and forgot to add the final score. Now watching Cats v Eagles.
  9. Yes it was very wet at the G last night. My daughter and grandson went last Friday night and it rained as well. They haven't had to sit in the rain for ages. It is much better today, the sun is actually shining at our place and I have come inside from a garden walkaround. It is quite wet underfoot though.
  10. Jennie, stay up there, don't come back to Melbourne. It is so miserable, raining on and off, although not quite as cold today.
  11. We're along the bay, so will go on East Link onto the Monash.
  12. Thanks for that Cbtours. Our flight is a similar time to yours but with Jetstar - usually fly Qantas but couldn't get a Q flight for time we wanted. We're SE suburbs so depending on traffic can take anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half. I was thinking of leaving home about 6 because as you say much better to be there early enjoying a coffee instead of stressing about getting there on time.
  13. What was it like at Melbourne airport this morning Cbtours? We are flying to Cairns 6 weeks today so thinking about what time we need to arrive at airport.
  14. Sorry to hear about your beloved Niki Julie. It is so hard to make the decision to say goodbye to our pets, even when you know it is best for them. Our cat has to be put down while we were on a cruise. He wasn't well either and was being looked after by our daughter. We had talked to our vet and said if he deteriorated, he had our permission to euthenise him which is what happened. ❤️
  15. Yes, it was Good Company Tours. Unfortunately it looks as if the company is not in operation at this time and also the Taieri Gorge train has been mothballed and there doesn't seem to be any indication it will run any time soon. There are other rail trips from Dunedin which may be of interest though.
  16. Yes, our coach to take us to Dunedin railway station was waiting outside the cruise terminal and the guide was waiting inside the terminal.
  17. You can still test positive for quite a long time after the infectious period has ended. I tested 10 days after my first positive RAT and was still positive.
  18. I made beef, vegetable and barley last week Julie. I buy soup bones from Woolworths which always seem to have lots of meat on them and not too fatty.
  19. I sometimes roast the pumpkin and carrot, it depends on how much time I have. It does add flavour.
  20. 😀My husband makes the pea and ham soup at our place Les. The only tin soup I will have these days is tomato. And always have a packet of chicken noodle soup in the pantry.
  21. I have just made a pot of pumpkin soup using a butternut from our garden. I added a little celery, carrot, potato and onion, garlic and some nutmeg along with the normal seasonings. Just waiting for it to cool a little to blend. It is going to be quite thick.
