Ms. T Posted August 4, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 4, 2011 Anyone ever taking food from the MDR back to their stateroom? Can you order to-go plates? ;)
paul929207 Posted August 4, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 4, 2011 We have not, but some people do. Usually when someone is sick and in the cabin.
johneeo Posted August 4, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 4, 2011 Anyone ever taking food from the MDR back to their stateroom? Can you order to-go plates? ;) I am sure you can. Just ask, and I am sure the wait staff will accomodate just about any request.
eh2zed Posted August 4, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 4, 2011 Some cruise lines allow you to order room service from the MDR menu posted earlier in the day n/c. HAL for instance does this during MDR hours. No need to go to the MDR at all.
cb at sea Posted August 4, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 4, 2011 Yes...you may take food from the buffet and even, the dining room to your cabin. No worries. While we generally don't bring much (it's too hard to eat in a cabin without a dining table!), coffee/pastries, etc... are easy to do.
Dayenu Posted August 4, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 4, 2011 People always bring food from the buffet, but I've never seen from MDR. Maybe if someone is sick they will allow it?
kitty9 Posted August 4, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 4, 2011 You can order room service and have it brought to your cabin. There's no reason to go to the MDR and carry food back, unless someone is sick. But like I said, all you need do is call room service.
Jimnbigd Posted August 4, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 4, 2011 There is no microwave, so no way to re-heat any hot food. And any refrigerator in the cabin will be small and not keep food very cold. I do see people taking desserts back to the cabin for eating later. Don't forget silverware. When finished, just leave it on your coffee table or desk in your cabin, and your steward will pick it up. Not true for all lines, Princess, for example, does not offer MDR selections for room service.
Cruisin' Chick Posted August 5, 2011 #10 Share Posted August 5, 2011 My hubby will go to the buffet in the mornings on sea days and get his made-to-order omelet and then put together a tray for my daughter and me.
Colorado Kat Posted August 5, 2011 #11 Share Posted August 5, 2011 If we don't get around to ordering room service for breakfast, I'll go and get some food and coffee for my daughters. (I eat at Lido.) However, in June, the Liberty did not have trays, so it was difficult to transport the coffees.
Cuizer2 Posted August 5, 2011 #12 Share Posted August 5, 2011 Anyone ever taking food from the MDR back to their stateroom? Can you order to-go plates? ;) From the MDR - no. From the buffet - yes.
sail7seas Posted August 14, 2011 #13 Share Posted August 14, 2011 We've never taken any food from Main Dining Room to our cabin. On HAL, you can order from the MDR dinner menu served from Room Service. The few times we didn't dress and go out for one reason or another, we ordered for dinner to be delivered. serene56 Posted August 14, 2011 #14 Share Posted August 14, 2011 Anyone ever taking food from the MDR back to their stateroom? Can you order to-go plates? ;) The menu in the dining room for dinner will be the same on the buffet minus a few items. Curious- why would you want to do that? room service is available 24/7 as is the pizza place.
Rare Essiesmom Posted August 14, 2011 #15 Share Posted August 14, 2011 Carnival does not allow you to order MDR food through room service. They also do not allow yu to go to the MDR and ask for your meal 'to go'. EM

Cuizer2 Posted August 14, 2011 #17 Share Posted August 14, 2011 Anyone ever taking food from the MDR back to their stateroom? Can you order to-go plates? ;) I take food from the buffet to my cabin to eat on the balcony all the time.
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 15, 2011 #18 Share Posted August 15, 2011 We have never taken food from the dining room to our cabin. A few times we have taken food from the buffet to have on our verandah.
griffy116 Posted August 15, 2011 #19 Share Posted August 15, 2011 For me, the temp would never be hot enough, etc. I just order from room service unless it's a small dessert or something easily transported. Omelets, fruit and coffee can be ordered from room service (RCCL) so I wouldn't think of trying to juggle it, even with a tray, with long halls, elevators, etc. They will allow you to do almost anything, but if you sit down at a table in the MDR and ask for "to go" you will be waiting quite a while. taecruise2 Posted August 15, 2011 #20 Share Posted August 15, 2011 I have never ordered from the MDR to go for myself, but I have been on cruises where someone at my table did order a meal to go from the MDR and there was no problem. Personally , I would think that the food would be cold by the time you got to your room .... but to each his own :)
Rare silentbob007 Posted August 19, 2011 #21 Share Posted August 19, 2011 Eating in the room always seems to be a hassle as there is limited space. Of course, once people finish, they rectify this by putting their soiled plates out in the hall for other to trip on instead of letting the room attendant take care of it during morning/night service. The only way you are going to trip over my plate is if you are walking on the table on my balcony. I don't put my plates outside the cabin door.
