I know there is a 2pm free walking tour as well

 

I am looking for more information of this 2 pm tour.

I have heard of the 11 am free walking tour but not of the 2 pm tour.

The 2 pm tour would work for us on the day we fly into Copenhagen.

 

Where does the 2 pm tour leave from and do we need to sign up ahead of time?

I have barely started my research into Copenhagen so I haven't been reading this thread--YET. And then tonight, I went to book a backup hotel because I wasn't loving the hotel I'd initially booked, intending to do more research on whether it might be a good choice for us. Brilliantly (NOT!), I accidentally booked it as a nonrefundable. Soooooo, please someone tell me I haven't made a terrible blunder in terms of location, neighborhood or anything else. I booked the Andersen Hotel, which is on the far side of Tivoli and the train station.

 

Should I throw myself on the mercy of the hotel and try to switch my reservation, or is this an okay hotel and location?

 

Never done this before--I usually am uber-careful about these things!

We also switched to Andersen's and the reviews on TripAdvisor remain very positive.

 

The location near the train station was an attraction.

I usually exhaustively research a hotel before booking and I prefer not to book non-refundably until I have done so. I thought I was booking a "hold" not a "buy". I don't have a complaint against them--I just pulled the trigger before I meant to and wanted reassurance that the hotel was indeed well-located and a good choice. The price was okay but sometimes that's indicative of a bad choice.

 

Glad to hear that people generally like this hotel--and especially its location.

My husband and I ( mid 60's) will be in CPH on Aug. 17th thru Aug. 19th before our Baltic cruise on the Royal. We will be staying at the Scandic Copenhagen and we have Princess transfers arranged from airport to hotel and to port on the 19th. We arrive on SAS at 7:15am on the 17th so we will have a good part of that day to tour the city as well as all day on the 18th. We are interested in seeing the following and we need your help since I can not walk for long distances.

Tivoli (for dinner at beer garden)

Torvenhallen (probably for a quick lunch)

Nyhaven (for canal boat tour)

Amalienboug Palace ( for changing of guards)

Rosenberg Palace (to see crown jewels)

H. C. Anderson statue

Little Mermaid

Gefion fountain

Stroget (for shopping & coffee and danish at Lagkagehuset)

Please help us by giving your insight on the order in which we should do these sights and how to get to them with a small amount of walking. We are familiar with hoho buses and we don't mind taking a taxi if it isn't too far. if you suggest a regular bus the bus number would be most helpful.

Last of all I must say that I have read this thread from beginning to end and you are a amazing young man. They should put you in the Rosenborg as one of the crown jewels for us on CC! Many thanks for any help you can provide!

I´m a little bit unsure about how much you can walk so I will try my luck with this schedule.

 

 

Walk from your hotel to the town hall square where you will find the HC Andersen statue.

 

Then take a walk along strøget to Lagkagehuset for a Wienerbrød aka Danish.

 

Then walk to Nyhavn from where you can take the 1 hour canal tour.

From Kongens Nytorv you take bus 26 to Indiakaj, Søndre Frihavn, from here you can see The little Mermaid an Gefionspringvandet.

You then walk back to Indiakaj bus stop and take bus 26 towards Ålholm Plads, you then get off at Imperial or Bagerstræde next to your hotel.

 

 

 

Then you have the rest of the day free.

 

There is some good restaurants near your hotel at Axeltorv so you are not a long walk away from a nice dinner.

 

 

The next day you walk to Vesterport station from where you take bus 66 towards Kvæsthusbroen.

 

 

At the final stop you are very close to Amalienborg castle.

 

 

 

You can decide for yourself how long before 12:00 you will depart, I suggest that you take the bus at 10:00 (it goes every 10th minute) so you have time to visit the Amalienborg museum before 12:00.

 

 

After noon its time for a short walk to Rosenborg Castle and the crown jewels (but without me)

 

After a visit there I suggest that you take a walk in the bothanical garden before visiting Torvehallerne.

After that you are ready to take any southbound S-trains or Commuter train to København H (central station), next door you´ll find Tivoli.

 

 

 

 

For these 2 days I will suggest that you purchase the 48 hour Copenhagen Card because it gives you free canal tour, free entrance to Amalienborg Museum and Rosenborg.

 

 

It also gives you free entrance to the round tower and Christiansborg castle that you can fit in between Lagkagehuset and a canal tour.

My husband, I, my husband's brother, his wife plus another couple will be in Copenhagen for 3 nights next May. We want to rent a car (big enough for 6 adults) to drive over to Landskrona, Sweden (my husband's great grandparents were born there). We would like to continue on to Helsingborg, take the ferry to Helsingor, visit a sight or two and return to Copenhagen. Would this be doable in one long day? Also, the least expensive van I have found to rent (holding 6 adults) is from Quick Biludlejinig. Do you know if this is a reliable company? Or do you have another suggestion?

I do have a few questions for you.

 

1) We (group of 8 adults) are staying at the Hotel Bethel and are considering taking the metro from the airport to Kongens Nytorv and walk to the hotel. We will each have a medium-to-large suitcase along with carry-on. Is this realistic?

 

2) We will be in Copenhagen for two days prior to our cruise. We plan on doing a canal cruise, visiting Amalienborg Palace, Christianshavn (Christiania, Church of Our Savior), Tivoli, Rosenborg Castle, Torvehallerne, Stroget and take a walking tour. Do you think we should purchase the Copenhagen Card?

Danish Viking - You go above and beyond. I am sure you end up repeating answers to similar questions, but I have never seen you tell people just to search your old answers.

 

We are staying at the Cabinn City and will be taking a RCI cruise. We arrive on Monday and leave on Wednesday. RCI allows passengers to bring on two 750 ml bottles of wine. I wonder if there is somewhere that would be convenient and not too expensive to buy wine. Also do you have any idea what a lower range of prices would be?

I have seen very cheap wine in those boxes for around 50 kroner, I'm guessing that a bottle will be around 80-100 kroner and upwards.

 

But I'm not a wine person myself so I'm not 100% sure.

 

Near the central station you will find a Superbrugsen on Halmtorvet, try to google it or else I will post a link and the address when I get home from my big brothers summer cottage on Sunday.

Is there a City Bike station anywhere near the cruise port? Are there typically city bikes available? We are taking a bike tour from Biking Copenhagen on Adelgate 11, and it would be great if we could pick up a city bike to ride it to the bike tour office, then take our tour. We were in Copenhagen last summer for a few days and feel comfortable riding around. Alternatively we can take a bus and/or metro to a place close to the bike tour office.

I checked the cruise port timetable and it appears that the Ryndam is the only ship docked that day, June 30th, so my guess is that we will be at the Langelinie Pier.
