Wonderful Copenhagen

Regguy.....Thank you so much ! what a kind and informative answer.....I am going to really take your advice to heart and think about doing it that way.....I have been in touch with 2 Limo companies , both similar pricing both very expensive but I thought with the children along I would just bite the bullet....neither company is being very reliable about replying to mail and so then I wonder how reliable they would be when we need them....you do make it sound very very simple. Did you ever notice cabs that are vans where we could all be in one and I could possibly book the other trips with them ? We will be on a 7 day Disney cruise and the transfers Disney provides are out of sight as far as money goes. Did you happen to get to the Viking Museum ??? Thanks so very much, that was an awesome reply.

Hi Jan -- we had only two days in Copenhagen after our cruise. With 8 and 13 year olds, a day in Tivoli was a priority, and we used the other day to tour Copenhagen, take the sightseeing boat, take the obligatory picture at the Little Mermaid, walk the Stroget, etc. That left no time for the Viking Museum. Plus, our cruise stopped in Stockholm, so we had already been to the Vasa Museum, and so the Viking Museum in Copenhagen seemed a bit duplicative. (I don't know whether your ship stops in Stockholm, but if it does, I'd rank the Vasa museum as perhaps the number 2 must-see on a Baltics Cruise, after the Hermitage/St. Petersburg.)

I think the for the Viking Museum, most people take public transportation. There are frequent trains from the central station in Copenhagen (which is easy to reach from other points in the city) directly to Roskilde, and I think the walk from the train station to the museum is reported to be easy with some touristy shops and stuff along the way.

For 7 people, public transportation isn't exactly cheap -- tickets in Copenhagen are based on zones no matter what form you take (metro, regional train, s-tog, bus, and even harbor boat). To get to the viking museum, you'll want an 8-zone ticket. For adults, that's probably going to be about $35 to $40 round trip for the adults. Half that for teens, and free for kids under 12. There are a few ways to game the Copenhagen tickets to make it come out cheaper. Like if you're going to be using the trains or metro for your three days in Copenhagen, you could buy a pass that gives you unlimited travel in 4 zones for 3 days, and then I think you can supplement it with single one-use tickets for the extra 4 zones to the museum. But I would think you're probably looking at around $200 or so, depending on the age of the kids, to get there and back. Danish Viking will be the go-to source on the best combinations of tickets and routes to get to Roskilde.

Whether or not, at that price, cabs or other private transportation would be better is hard to say. My expectation, based just on the expense of taking cabs around town, is that private vehicle transportation to Roskilde, whether by cab or van, would be prohibitively expensive -- several hundreds of dollars. Despite everything I read about how expensive Copenhagen is, and I thought I was prepared, it still was quite a shock at times just how expensive things could be. After you've paid $6 for a soda or had a couple of takeaway Carlsberg beers in plastic cups for $11 each, maybe a cab to the viking museum starts to seem reasonable! ;0)

Well, thanks again Regguy, I am taking notes on everything you say....we do go to both Stockholm and St Petersburg so now I may rethink the

Viking museum and the additional travel in Copenhagen.....we arrive back in Copenhagen on Saturday and dont fly out til Tuesday, our boys will be 7, 10 and 12 we too plan a full day at Tivoli and a canal trip we might not even have time for a trip to the museum....I have so much to learn in the planning of this trip im like a sponge with all this great information....this is very special to all of us , my husband has no family but they are all from Denmark. So thank you yet again and if you have anything else to share please do....I also wait for Danish Viking. May I ask what Hotel you stayed at ???? jan

Could you please recommend a luxury hotel in a location that would make it easy to visit most tourist destinations? We are traveling with a 3 year old, so we need a hotel that will make it very convenient to get everywhere. Thanks so much.

May I ask what Hotel you stayed at ????

We stayed at the Radisson Blu Royal. It was kind of a limited choice for us, because I wanted to use points and we had enough Radisson/Club Carlson points. It turned out a good choice and the location was great.

I need some advice please....we are sailing out of Copenhagen with Disney next June and spending 3 days in Copenhagen post cruise....we have our flights, our cruise and our hotels thanks to good advice on this forum....now, I am trying to book a transport company , we are 4 adults, 3 children and luggage so we dont want to do our transfers via train or bus we would like to hire a transport or limo company to get us from the airport to the hotel, hotel to cruise, cruise to hotel and then hotel to airport , and would it make sense to book this same company, IF we can find one, to take us to the Viking Museum or is there another way to get there , our 3 boys are all about the Viking History . Thanks so much for your wonderful help, its always right on

A hired car in Copenhagen is super expensive so I will suggest you to take a taxi between the various points in Copenhagen.

Yet again a taxi to Roskilde and back will probably cost around 1.500 kroner (around 300 USD).

Try to ask the guide association for guides tours to the viking museum.

Hi Danish Viking,

You have helped my sister and she highly recommended you. My husband and I are arriving Copenhagen on 8/14 at 10:25 and sail from Sundkaj 245/Flex Terminal at 1700. We would like to take the train from airport to port, drop off luggage, and take bus @26 to city centre to sightsee. We plan to purchase a Copenhagen pass. Please advise how to take the train from airport to port and where to take bus #26 from port to city.

We travel light and can even lug our luggage with us, take the train from airport to city centre, sightsee, and bus to port. What do you think is a better option? Many thanks. Violet

The first thing you do is the take the Øresund train from the airport towards Nivå or Helsingør and get off at either København H (central station), Nørreport or Østerport.

From here you take any northbound S-train (Farum, Holte, Hillerød or Klampenborg) and get off at Nordhavn.

CM ports thinks that Marine sails from the pier next door called C254 Orientkaj but its just next door from C245.

for some reason Google maps wants you to take a detour around Sundkrogsgade but there is a tunnel under the tracks at Århusgade.

From the tunnel under Århusgade you just enter the freeport area through the gate.

You can catch the 26 bus from the Stubbeløbsgade bus stop.

Arriving on Celebrity Constellation into wonderful Copenhagen at dock C190. From the maps online, it would seem a short walk to many of the sights we are interested in seeing (Little Mermaid, Amalienborg Palace, Rosenborg Castle.

Are there any ATM's at the dock or a money exchange to get Danish Krone for any small purchases I might want to make? Can admission to the castle and palace be charged?

Thank you for your help Danish Viking.

I would suspect that most of the tourist sites takes most credit cards but else you can find lots of atms around Kongens Nytorv close to both Amalienborg and Rosenborg.

This is an amazing thread but I have been reading and it seems I have missed the plan for just a day in the city. So many seem to have extra time. We are arriving on the Constellation on July 30 with only time there from 10-6. Do you know where our dock will be? Should we use HOHO buses to see the most of the city? We would be willing to walk but what should be our plan to maximize time/sights? I appreciate any input or suggestions.

Connie is docked at Langelinie.

btw a funny fact is that Eclipse is docked at Oceankaj so its a little Celebrity reunion :D

This walking route visit most of the sites.

Hotel d'Angletere qualifies as a luxury hotel, and it is ideally located in Kongens Nytorv. The pedestrian shopping street is right outside the door, and Nyhavn is just about a block away. Seems like a good choice.

Danish Viking, are you familiar with the Viking Museum ? and ships ? After our cruise we are staying a few days in Copenhagen as you know and want that to be one of our activities, what is the best way to do that from the Imperial Hotel ? I have inquired about Limo Van service and while its available to be gone with them for several hours is very expensive for 7 of us, but our little boys really want to go there and see what there is to see. If you took a train how far would it be from the Train station to get there ? Any advice or suggestion would be appreciated

Thanks

Your hotel is located in walking distance of the central station so its very simple.

Just take any regional or Intercity trains that stops at Roskilde station.

Travel time is between 19 and 21 for the 2 hourly Intercity departures and up to 28 minutes with the many regionaltog trains.

From Roskilde you can either walk or take bus number 203 towards Veddelev (included in the train ticket)

The bus departs at 27 and 57 (but only 57 on weekends and public holidays)

Here is the walking route.

Regarding the price I have to know how many people there are between ages of 0-11, 12-15 and 16 and over and I also need to know if you travel this or next year.

not an option with my husband, mobility issues especially after 10.5 hours of flying. It will be a taxi from the airport to the hotel.

Hi, I skimmed the thread but didn't read all posts so forgive me if this has been asked. We need to get from the airport to our hotel (Skt. Petri). My mom is handicapped and we also have a baby and a lot of luggage, so any type of public transport that includes any walking is really out.

My questions is, should we just grab a cab or do you suggest any type of shuttle service we can book to go from the airport to the front door of our hotel? Thanks so much!
