paperless coupons--how to id and use?

Recommended Posts

From reading cc today, I've seen that coupons on Allure are paperless. How will we know what coupons we have and how are they redeemed, such as for a drink or gift purchase?

Thanks in advance for info!:)

There will be a letter in your stateroom listing the coupons, and they are preloaded on your seapass card. They will be used the first time you present your card for whatever service the coupon covers unless you ask that they not be used. for example, the BOGO beer coupon would be used the first time you order two draft beers. Don't be surprised if a few are still paper-based. When we were on FOS, the internet coupons were attached to the letter.

You will get a letter in your stateroom with a list of your coupons. These are a new thing, and not many people have reported back about the operation of the electronic coupons. I read one report that said they will automatically apply the coupon, for example if you buy 2 drinks. So you have to be proactive and tell them ahead of time not to use your coupon, if say you want to use the 2 for 1 coupon on more expensive drinks.

I hope more people report back about the electronic coupons.

In principle it is a good idea as out of a booklet of 16+ coupons we only tend to use five or six of them.

But I believe you should have to request their use rather than them be applied automatically.

For instance the BOGOF coupon is (was) 'buy any beer, wine, or soda and get another beer, wine of soda free. Cheapest beverage will be free.'

So I may want to use it on a specific combination and not on my first qualifying order!

If this observation is correct, every time you order you need to remember to tell them ahead of time not to use your coupon.

It would be interesting to hear how they are working in practice.

It would be interesting to know what changes have been made to the new 'electronic' member benefits for each tier.

For instance, I believe there are no longer any 'Casino Credit $5.00 USD Match Play Certificates. '

At least not on the new D+ member benefits http://tcrofmd.smugmug.com/

I wonder what other changes have been made. Does anyone know?

Thanks, I was looking for that link as I saw it posted a few weeks ago.

You can also review which coupons you still have when you make a purchase, the receipt will reflect what you have left. I think the interactive TV in your room also has a run down of your activity. (or so I've been told). I love the paperless way. It was very convenient on the Freedom this summer.

Just returned from the Rhapsody of the Seas and Freedom of the Seas cruises and REALLY enjoyed the pre-loaded coupons for Diamond members. In the past, I had to remember to put a coupon in my purse or run back to the cabin if I needed one. Now, all I do is present my Seapass and discounts are applied --- nice.

The only paper coupon we had was for the Internet.

They worked great on Freedom last month EXCEPT they will apply automatically to the first qualifying purchase you make unless you tell them not to. For instance, I had a beer and bought my wife a soda; that was my BOGO. Not what I would have chosen...

Or at least the server should ask if you want to use them.

Someone on another thread mentioned that their server said there was a coupon available and did they want to use it.

Of course it will be different with every ship and every server.

I did have one server ask if I waned to apply a 10% off to a beer before sail away, so I didn't think anything more of it until the bartender and the Schooner informed me with a smile that my wife's $1.78 diet coke was free...

You can ask any bartender, etc, to run your Sea Pass and provide a print out of everything left on your account. We did this a couple times on our Allure cruise to help keep track of what we used and hadn't yet used.

Your perks automatically show when someone runs your card, but this is a new system. For now, you kinda have to keep track. However, on Allure, I did have a bartender ask me if I wanted to use my BOGO when I purchased a beer. They need to know when you purchase the first drink or it gets complicated.

I would like to know if everyone in a cabin gets the coupons on their seapass card, or is it just put on one person's. What would they do if the two people in a cabin are only friends and not spouses.

The appropriate perks are applied to each persons cards, depending on their status.

On my last 2 cruises I didn't use any of my bogo coupons because I didn't need 2 drinks at one time. I wonder if the new system will work if I buy the first one, then later or next day get the second one free?

No, that will not work.

We noticed a couple of things about the paperless coupons. First, we always felt as if we were stumbling around asking to use a special offer--we never knew what to call it or how to make sure of what we were getting. That said, it always worked out in the end, but it used to be easier to just hand them the coupon so they knew what you wanted. Second, several times either when we were using the coupons or saw others using them (e.g., at Chops), the server just comped the free item and didn't use the coupon, told the patron so, and probably hoped for a bigger tip. Works in our (the patron's) favor, depending on the server, since you can use the offer some other time.

I am quite sure each person gets their appropriate couopons loaded to their seapasses and each seapass is attached to its own account.

I really dislike that. In the past I have had hit or miss luck asking the bartender to hold the second beer until I finished the first. Some have agreed and others have not. If I am the only one having a drink I don't see why one should have to sit around getting warm.

We had a mini fridge in the room. We asked the bartender not to open the second beer and DH put it in there.
