Kartgv Posted January 13, 2014 #27 Share Posted January 13, 2014 The Starward - first in 1978 (DH as a single!), then 1981 as a newly-wed couple. Quite different from today's ships and sailing experience.
OCruisers Posted January 13, 2014 #28 Share Posted January 13, 2014 SS Bahama Star 52 years ago for three nights on our HS Senior Trip when I was Sweet 16. Yes, I'm old. :D Also, after that cruise, I still can't even stand the smell of Sloe Gin. LuLu ~~~~

Rare cruisemom42 Posted January 13, 2014 #30 Share Posted January 13, 2014 A Christmas cruise on the Emerald Seas (1972), quickly followed by 6 cruises on Sitmar's Fairwind throughout the 1970s.
sail7seas Posted January 13, 2014 #31 Share Posted January 13, 2014 Our first cruise was on the previous Royal Princess. It was in about 1989. We were hooked right away. :)

jean s Posted January 13, 2014 #34 Share Posted January 13, 2014 SS Norway in the early 80's. Unbelievable experience as we were booked in the least expensive category on a different NCL ship. Well the ship we were originally booked on was taken over by some group and they wanted our room. Our TA argued for us and we got an enormous upgrade. We were moved over to the Norway and given a full suite. After having that sutie as our first experience it is tough for anything else to compare. What a nice introduction to cruising. springfire Posted January 13, 2014 #35 Share Posted January 13, 2014 1976-The Starward! I worked as a deckhand on this beautiful ship. I will be taking a cruise on the Allure of the Seas in March and just the crew quarters on that ship is bigger than the Starward.
Happy ks Posted January 13, 2014 #36 Share Posted January 13, 2014 1998 Disney Magic. I was hooked and still, after more than 20 more cruises, think it is one of the more elegant ships we've been on. Queen Mary 2 was just a teeny bit more than that ship. Husband tried to get me to cruise for 13 years and it took The Mouse to convince me. navybankerteacher Posted January 13, 2014 #37 Share Posted January 13, 2014 Furness' Queen of Bermuda in 1953: New York to Bermuda - but that was more transportation rather than cruise. Then nothing for 43 years - until Orient Lines' Marco Polo in 1996: Istanbul to Athens.

John Bull Posted January 13, 2014 #41 Share Posted January 13, 2014 1961 - MS Dunera. A "schools educational cruise ship", converted from a troopship (we slept in dormitories) To the Baltic, including Soviet St Petersburg (then Leningrad). My how that place has changed. And so have cruise ships :) JB :)

papcx Posted January 13, 2014 #43 Share Posted January 13, 2014 2008 - Costa Magica. I can still remember that intake of breath when I first saw her, and later learning she's only mid-sized! Pretty standard 7 night med cruise, but great experience. I'm not quite sure why it took 4 year for our next cruise, but we're trying to make up for lost time now! jimbob70 Posted January 13, 2014 #44 Share Posted January 13, 2014 The Festivale in 1989. She was a converted liner, ex. S.A. Vaal. She now resides in that great cruise ship port in the sky, having been dismantled at Alang a few years ago. Will celebrate the 25 year anniversary of that cruise this April! Rare ontheweb Posted January 13, 2014 #45 Share Posted January 13, 2014 Splendour of the Sea 2002 for our 25th wedding anniversary. I had suggested a Bermuda cruise; DW suggested an Alaskan cruise. We ended up on a western Mediterranean cruise.
