dchan865 Posted January 18, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2014 Just curious, how far out do you folks plan your next great adventure? For me I tend to do it 12 months to 18months out. For the short ones like staying within the states, may be a 3-4 months.

For the short ones like staying within the states, may be a 3-4 months. Anywhere from 3 months to 2 years out for a cruise. Driving trips in the US - could be as short as 2 weeks or up to 6 months out.
taglovestocruise Posted January 18, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 18, 2014 For me I tend to do it 12 months to 18months out. Occasionally we do a last minute booking or a sale.
kcwingwalker Posted January 18, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 18, 2014 Just depends on timing and everyone's schedule. Might be the week or year before the cruise.
paul929207 Posted January 18, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 18, 2014 We book about 18 to 24 months in advance. We often take b2b(2b...), so by booking in advance we get the same cabin
cruiserking Posted January 18, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 18, 2014 I typically book our cruises six to eight months and sometimes a year. Once I zero in on an itinerary, confirm dates with work, I don't like to dilly-dally. I want to be sure I can nail down the precise cabin and location and then have a wonderful cruise to dream about for the next 241 days... hansolosmom Posted January 18, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 18, 2014 For a big trip usually about a year. For smaller trips - like a weekend away, I still need at least a month or so because we have to make sure we can get kennel space for the dog. Guest maddycat Posted January 18, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 18, 2014 We book 18 to 24 months in advance for cruises. For short get aways (2-3 days), usually a week in advance.
clackey Posted January 18, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 18, 2014 Normally we book 6 to 12 months out but our last cruise was 1 week. I booked it on a Sunday. We were to leave on Saturday for New Orleans and a storm hit that Thursday. When I saw the road conditions I told Ginger D that we had better leave now or never. We nearly wrecked the car 15 miles from home, drove another 30 miles and got out of the snow and ice. Spent 2 extra days in NO. One of the best trips yet.
MCC retired Posted January 18, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 18, 2014 We actually book too far in advance. Enjoy looking forward to the cruise early. However , living here in FL , we would do far better $$$ waiting until Final passes and the close in, new booking only , rates appear for soft sailings. sail7seas Posted January 18, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 18, 2014 We are particular about which cabin we want and often book a year in advance in order to have that cabin available.
Lerin Posted January 18, 2014 #13 Share Posted January 18, 2014 Plan: We have cruises and vacations planned for the next 10 years Book: The earliest has been about 11 months out, though usually closer to 6.
Erik101 Posted January 18, 2014 #14 Share Posted January 18, 2014 6 months max. Anything longer than that...forget it! I'm not waiting that long just to go on vacation.
Roadtripster Posted January 18, 2014 #15 Share Posted January 18, 2014 I only have certain weeks I can take vacation so I know the one week we always cruise in December. So we usually book around Feb. for the Dec cruise. The other weeks, depends on what we are doing. This year I just booked a cruise for beginning of May since we were just talking about it, checked the prices, liked it and booked. LOL The other week, we decided to go to Disney World. Yikes, a land vacation. LOL So, hmmmmmmmmmmm, Im guessing 100 days to 11 months in advance. LOL
INeedAMaiTai Posted January 18, 2014 #16 Share Posted January 18, 2014 5 months to two years! Always nice to have something to look forward to.
gymbomb Posted January 18, 2014 #17 Share Posted January 18, 2014 On average I would say 6-12 months, but I've booked less than two weeks out and I've started the research part of planning if not the booking itself over a year and a half in advance. Just booked next January's cruise this past week.
vacation luvver Posted January 18, 2014 #18 Share Posted January 18, 2014 Preferably within four months, but no longer than eight months ahead of time. I figure that by then, there's no chance that the cruise line is going to charter out my cruise. I've seen too many people come here and cry about how they just found out that their cruise has been chartered to some company and their reservation has been canceled. marco Posted January 18, 2014 #19 Share Posted January 18, 2014 If it's something that's really on the Bucket list, up to a year out. If it's "it's just time to get away", sometimes as short as a couple of weeks.

dchan865 Posted January 20, 2014 Author #21 Share Posted January 20, 2014 Glad to know that I am not the only one. Some of you ladies and gentlemen said "something to look forward to", I couldn't agree with you more. If I don't have a planned trip, the days seem to go by so so slow... Cheers to the next adventure that you're planning! :)
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 20, 2014 #22 Share Posted January 20, 2014 We plan 1 year to 1 1/2 years out. That way we get to choose the cabin we want. Plus, since we have so few flights to anywhere (and even less now that American and US Airways have merged), we have to book them as soon as they open. The shortest cruise we will consider is 14 days.
polySeraph Posted January 20, 2014 #23 Share Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) We have a dual strategy. For cruises originating in a Florida port we typically book a maximum of 6 weeks ahead of time. DH blocks a week off in his work calendar when cruise prices are typically low. Then we wait to see what the prices look like on several itineraries we like and choose the itinerary that is the best value. Being Florida residents, we do not have to worry about last-minute airfare. For our longer, international cruises, we usually book well over a year in advance. This gives us enough time to get the early-bird discount on the cabin of our choice, research things to do in the ports, score a great deal on the airfare, and reserve the really good private tour providers. LrgPizza Posted January 20, 2014 #24 Share Posted January 20, 2014 Generally 6 to 9 months out. With my and dh's jobs, anything further out would be impossible to plan. I always make sure I have at least one trip booked though. I am NEVER without at least one vacation scheduled, so that I always have one to look forward to.
