Also, just posting on the thread adds you to the subscription.

I'm not aware of that happening. I only seem to get subscribed to the threads that I manually set. You might have changed a setting for this website to do that for you automatically. I personally wouldn't want auto subscription, that would drive me bonkers.:p

When I post on a thread it shows that I have "participated" in that thread on my Cruise Critic app but does not "subscribe" me to the thread where I have the option to be notified about new posts which "would drive me bonkers". :p

Started Regal’s Inaugral Cruise, 13-day Venice to Venice yesterday. Read on for my experiences, observations and opinions…

Day 1

Got to the cruise terminal at 11:55 am for a scheduled 11pm departure. Published boarding time was to begin at 1pm. No real lines to speak off. Celeberty Equinox was right behind us and P&O Ventura was across the pier. Regal and Equinox seem to be VERY similar in design with Regal appearing a deck or two taller with other subtle differences (no seaview bar/skywalk, twin stacks on X versus single bank of multiple stacks on Regal, huge MUTS on Regal, etc, etc). Ventura looked like a typical Grand-class.

Saw no porter service or bag check outside of the Venice cruise terminal, so we walked our bags (thank-goodness for rollers) inside to the person who put them right on the conveyer taking them deeper into the terminal for delivery to the cabin. Then up one level and right to the preferred check-in counter without any wait. Had just been handed our cruise cards at 12:05 when they announced suite and elite boarding. Whoo Hoo, we were on in record time!

Dropped the carry-on bags in the cabin, got the Treasure Hunt cards stamped, hit passenger services to correct an error (I had pre-paid a soda package for my DW and mistakenly got the regular package and not the “Ulltimate”), and then went back out to continue exploring Venice (our first time). While waiting for the People Mover to Plaza Roma, I read in the Princess Patter that Venice authorities required passport s and your cruise card to reboard. Oops, we put our PPs in the safe. DW was worried throughout the whole afternoon that we’d get hassled trying to get back aboard, but I tried to convince her that if there was any difficulties, it souldn’t be too bad and any delay wouldn’t be that long. We did a round trip Grand Canal Vaporetto cruise stopping at St Mark’s Square to confirm the locations where we need to meet for or post-cruise Doges Palace Secret Itineraries and Clock Tower tours. Upon return to the ship we just showed our cruise cards and driver’s licenses and there was no problem re-boarding.

Got back to the cabin to find the checked baggage was already in the room along with the pre-ordered floral arrangement and casino cash vouchers and most all of the normal welcome/info cards and letters. What we didn’t get were the card with the dinner “dress code” schedule for the cruise (ie which nights are to be formal) and the Elite Happy Hour drink of the day and hor’s douvers schedule. Guess I’ll be able to track those down later…

Went down at 8:15 for late seating traditional dining, only to find that all the dining rooms were providing any-time service. That would’ve been nice to know in advance as we were looking so forward to meeting our table mates and wait staff for the next 13 evenings. Finally got the main course just before 9:30 and had to practically gulp it down to finish eating before the 10:15 muster drill

Muster was quick, but noticed a few “dozers” due to the late hour and long day. Also found it funny that rather than having scanners at the entrance(s) to the Muster Station, they had crew roaming the dining room repeatedly asking if your card had been scanned yet. Seems to work better and provide a more accurate head-count if they just simply scan every card as the people enter.

Sail away was delayed until 11:30 pm due to other shipping traffic, but once underway, it was smooth and scenic departure. Venice sure was beautiful but it was a bit too dark that late at night for good photos..

More Comments & Observations to follow…

If you get the chance to inquire, are they any spa access benefits for suite passengers?

I'm with Working 2 Cruise, who's the Godparent of Regal?

This is from the Countdown thread. And although Princess is saying they will be officially Christening her in Ft. Lauderdale, I think they agree she needed to be Christened before going out to sea.

Evidently there will be several Christenings in addition to the Madrina naming ceremony. This is an excerpt from a post on 5/10/2014 which indicates she has been Christened on 5/11 and has a Godfather!!

Here is the translated article from the main board....

From "Il piccolo" newspaper:

The premier Matteo Renzi will be in Monfalcone on Sunday to attend the ceremony of the "Regal Princess". Just as the last cruise ship built by Fincantieri on behalf of Princess Cruises had a "godmother," this one will therefore have a "godfather". The Italian Prime Minister in fact follows in the footsteps of Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, the godmother of the twin "Royal Princess," who last year baptized that ship at the Ocean Terminal in Southampton.

The movements of the head of the government are still top-secret. His plane is expected to land at the airport of Ronchi dei Legionari around 9:30 A.M. The beginning of the ceremony is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. at Panzano. The Prime Minister will be accompanied by the Deputy Minister for Economic Development, Claudio De Vincenti.

The CEO of Fincantieri, Giuseppe Bono, with the "front line" management, and the heads of Princess Cruises will welcome Renzi.

330 meters long, the "Regal Princess" has a gross tonnage of 141 thousand tons and can accommodate 3,600 passengers. After an initial season of Mediterranean cruises, which will begin in the coming weeks, in autumn, the new ship will continue its activities in the waters of the Caribbean.

I'm not sure how that would drive you bonkers. At least for me, subscribing to a thread mean that I can "follow" along with it easily, by checking the Subscribed Threads" tag in the Quick Links pull down menu, or by going to the USER CP tab. This happens if I subscribe to the thread or post a comment on it. Doesn't that happen to you? How are you able to keep up with threads you want to follow if it doesn't?

I am subscribed too! Thank you for taking time out of your fabulous vacay to fill us all in. I do have one question....I thought I saw on the patter from a cruise on the Royal that they are now doing a murder mystery type thing in the Princess Live stage/theatre....if you see that and attend could you tell me what it is about? Curious if it is like those murder mystery dinner type things...

Dear Av8tor,

Looking forward to your upcoming days of reviews. I sailed on the original Regal Princess in 1993 and will be cruising on this new Regal Princess on June 9th out of Barcelona. I myself will be noting any differences between Regal and Royal (on which I sailed this past December 2013). Have a great time. Sailing anywhere in Europe is wonderful so much more than the Caribbean I find. Your fortunate to have the late dining as it was completely full when I booked but again that was only last week.

Cheers Pink845

No, there aren't, as with the Royal. Princess has built a fabulous new spa with all the bells and whistles and charges for this are $49 per person. On all other ships, this benefit remains.

I've also subscribed! Quite curious about the new Regal - for example, did Princess include a true dance floor (wood) with live music more intimate venue to the design? Many had noted this absence from Royal (which instead has marble/brass 'dance' arena) and I'm hoping a few more traditional dance and live music options appear on Regal. Thank's for putting these reports together.

I'm not on the ship, but as far as I know, there have been no changes from the Royal, at least as far as a usable dance venue goes. This is one of two reasons we probably will never sail this ship. (And will only do the one we already did on the Royal.)
