Fortunately and as time goes by Carnival's whale tail funnels are being revised (down) in shape to something a bit more squat, less protruding and silly. As an aside I came across a whale-tail cloud, on our way in to St. Lucia! . 1

jocap Posted March 18, 2019 #28 Share Posted March 18, 2019 Thanks Aplmac… From those I choose the Astor and NCL. We couldn't believe our eyes when we first spotted a Carnival ship... when we were told that strange shape was funnels, we were like- No way! Now we see a whale tail painted a different colour, on a C&M ship.

Here's one example (2 difrnt paint-jobs!) Grand Celebration -in Barcelona, ten yrs. ago(the first shot) .

Aquahound Posted March 19, 2019 #31 Share Posted March 19, 2019 Here's a little friendly funnel rivalry. I take RCI in this one.
AL3XCruise Posted March 19, 2019 #32 Share Posted March 19, 2019 As far as aesthetics, there is an elegance to two funnel designs like Disney. In practice, whatever takes up the least amount of deck space tends to be the best, though I am partial to the old RCI funnels with the fully elevated lounge. The Diamond, similar to the Sapphire, Coral & Island have a single GE LM2500 gas turbine in a CODAG arrangement, but it isn't in the funnel. Those tubes on the funnel are purely decorative. The GT is on the upper deck, immediately below the funnel. Favourite funnels are the sleek dual funnels on SS Canberra.

The Viking Lounge on the older ships get the prize for the most marvelous use of a funnel! my favorite place to be in any ship.

Rare MicCanberra Posted March 19, 2019 #43 Share Posted March 19, 2019 Funnels are nice but to most Australians, they just make us think of 'How big is the spider in that one?' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sydney_funnel-web_spider
