Celebrity brochure always shows people smartly dressed in evening wear as if to imply this is how we should dress on the cruise and what to expect.The reality from my last cruise on Silhouette 18th Oct was far different some wearing t shirts shorts and trainers.

Did you ever look at Love Boat on television? All of the people around the pool were slim, trim, and beautiful.

 

Enter REALITY on an actual cruise ship. A goodly percentage of the people laying around the pool area are grossly overweight (both men and women).

 

Of course, you are not going to see these people on a sales brochure.

 

Same with the formal dinner brochure shots of everyone in a trim fitted evening gown or tuxedo.

 

This is reality. Relax and have a good time. If being a beautiful person were a requirement on a cruise ship, I would have to be waving to my wife as she sailed away and left me on the dock.

You know how it works...best foot forward and all that stuff. What is nice about Celebrity is you go as you please (dressed that is) and no one bothers you.:cool:

Just like Las Vegas or a Broadway show....the media makes it look so glam, in reality, people dress very differently.

I'll stop here, so as to not fan the flames.

And everyone is thin and beautiful or handsome in the brochures. LOL!

Perhaps Celebrity will offer you a future cruise credit as your trip was not exactly as advertised. ;) :D

...just like every photograph of a Vegas Hotel and Casino shows everyone immaculately dressed, beautiful, smiling, and 25-35.

 

Of course the reality is different!!!!

 

They're asking £6000 for a 2 week med cruise next year which of these suggests this is an upmarket cruise worth spending that sort of money on

I would estimate the number of guests in the 25-35 age range on any of my last six Celebrity cruises was anywhere between 10 and 30! :eek: :D :rolleyes:

 

I doubt Celebrity would book many cruises if they showed the actual guests. :o

 

Reality is WAAYYY different from the brochures! ;)

Thank god. I was afraid there would just be a bunch of cardboard cutouts everywhere.

 

LOL. That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. Just think, no lines at the Buffet, for anytime dining, or for tenders. Another plus - You would have your choice of seats in the Celebrity theater (just move the cardboard cutout - they can't complain !).

 

And last but certainly not least ? No waiting at the ladies or mens rooms :)

The first time I cruised Celebrity I prepared by spending weeks at the gym. I bought new clothes, a new haircut and a fake tan. When I got on board I was horrified to be surrounded by slobbish seniors. I raced down to Guest Relations to complain. The girl at the desk looked me up and down and apologised profusely. There had been a lot of over-55 discounts recently she explained.

 

Nevertheless I enjoyed my cruise.

 

The second time I prepared a little less diligently but once again the passengers were nothing like the brochures. This time Guest Relations explained that the current itinerary was very popular with seniors. I grumbled something angrily and went back to enjoy my cruise.

 

The third time I cruised with Celebrity it was the same but by now I'd learned my lesson and just dressed normally. Nevertheless I complained to Guest relations again. "Oh but, sir" the girl exclaimed after looking me up and down. "If the cruise was like the brochures surely an ageing gent such as yourself would feel terribly out of place".

 

It was then I realised I'd turned into the average Celebrity passenger. I'd been Celebrified.

 

Nevertheless I enjoyed my cruise.

The brochures also show passengers having massages, parasailing, horseback riding, dining in the specialty resturants and etc insinuating that it is all included. Plus the areas are never crowded.

 

Welcome to the world of make believe, fantasy and marketing.

We take two week cruises and find the average age somewhere in the 60s, with perhaps five percent of people under 40.

Seems the longer trips on the Eclipse had most people dressing properly for formal night. Reminded me of our Cunard trips. The Eclipse had an older demographic..65 & way beyond. Though we're younger, we like the formality of that type dresscode. I think we'll stick to the 14 day Eclipse voyages for that reason.
