Best hotel in FLL Under 500 a night?

We've always enjoyed the Marriott Harbor Beach. It has marvelous grounds and is one of the few hotels with its own beach area. And we have even watched our departing ship (after we have debarked of course) from the beach.

We just did there also. Would stay again.

We wound up booking the Marriott based largely upon the recommendations here. Plus we had some points that made it too good of an offer to turn down.

We are going on our honeymoon, so wanted something nice. Plus I have spent Hundreds of nights (if not thousands) in hotels over the past 7 or 8 years. So in going on our honeymoon, it would be nice to do something out of the norm in an effort to make it feel not like another day at work.

Well. Just found out I can't pair my points with the rate I got. So back to the drawing board. Hmm....

I will probably just save the points and pay cash.

If you collect airmiles you can book a hotel online with your points.

If the previous posters travels that often, he or she should know it is unlikely to be a good value to use airline miles for hotel stays, the points just aren't (usually) valued highly enough, though if you have miles expiring or so many it doesn't matter, then who cares?

If you get 1 airline mile from a hotel mile, that's GREAT, but very rare.

Usually the exchanges are much worse. For example, 5 Marriott Rewards points or sometimes 10 are worth 1 airline mile. If you only get 1 airline mile for a Marriott point, you can see how you'd be loosing out.

Disclaimer: These numbers aren't exact but used as an example. I've used over half a million Marriott Rewards points and another half a million or more miles on travel in 2014 alone, with over 250 hotel or cruise nights and take my miles very seriously.

Happy sailing,

Jenna

NO idea if this is allowable or not, especially since it is not promoting a cruise website, but check out a website called Airbnb. I Have found some fantastic deals on there, and they're NOT hotel rooms! :)

500.00 for a hotel room?....I guess this is where the "different strokes"

would come into play. It is not in my DNA to spend 500 bucks for a room.

I am staying for 1 night at a hotel in Seattle (and Seattle seems to always

be more $$ than Ft. Lauderdale) but anyway, I found a very nice

property for waaayyy less than 500 bucks....:D

But of course, we all have different priorities, pricepoints, etc.......

Lots of choices.......pick which is best for you:)........

For me? I couldn't click on "Submit" to confirm a hotel

reservation for that amount of money:eek:

I hope you get some advice that will help you with your search rather than comments on the price-point.

I would suggest the Ritz-Carlton, although some nights seem to be above the $500 threshold, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino would be another option.

Have a wonderful vacation and cruise!

They have received both......The Ritz, Lago Mar, The Marriott Chain,

you can spend what they are asking about in any of these places.

As for the pricepoint? They opened the door to that one when posting

the amount in the first post..........

I love the way you say "it's not in my DNA"!

I feel the same way.

We are staying at the Westin Beach and Spa. We've been there before. Not luxury, but comfortable. Pricey, but not $500! We used points for some of the nights, so that helped.

I'm in total agreement. And, oddly enough, Seattle is the ONLY city where I've paid overly $300 a night for a room! I can generally find a really good deal at a really good hotel for a reasonable amount. And since I found AirBNB, I've found even better deals and more reasonable rates.

Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental. Price depends on time of year and occupancy, but generally available for under $500/nt.

Four Seasons and Mandarin Oriental are not in Fort Lauderdale.

define 'best' I mean hell we normally spend about $90 a night for any one night stay regardless if it is because we are in transit somewhere, booked hotel so he could drink more than one jack and coke at the office Christmas party or wanted to spend the weekend down at Riverwalk and avoid paying $30 for parking each day.

you CAN find good, clean, basic hotels for half that price.

I do not understand the mentality of spending $500 for something you are going to essentially spend your time asleep in. especially pre or post cruise when all you really need it for is a good shower, a comfy bed and maybe a nice filling breakfast.

The OP didn't ask your permission to spend any amount on the hotel or vette the OP's personal choices. While you don't get that mindset, and it isn't yours, it is okay to be different.

To the OP, while you've already booked with points, for the future, the Ritz-Carlton, Lago Mar, Diplomat, and The Pillars would be my top choices.

The pool deck of the RC is just like being on a cruise ship.

Have fun!

I was trying to figure out how to post what you've stated so eloquently, thanks!

Happy sailing,

We spent several nights at the Atlantic five years ago and had a very nice time. The rooms are large and the pool that overlooks the beach is so nice we never even went to the beach. Plus the hotel is walking distance to the part of A1A near Beach Place/Las Olas where there's fun bars and nightlife for folks our age. I had a friend who stayed at the Atlantic recently, however, and reported that the hotel isn't being as well maintained recently.

I'm sure we'll cross paths on our upcoming cruise (we're also on the Jan. 11 sailing, 30/28 and were previously on the Silhouette for our honeymoon), and when we do we'll enjoy a round to laugh about the cynical cheapskates who don't understand you wanting to have a nice hotel for your honeymoon.

Getting back to Seattle for a moment, when we were there we stayed at Inn at the Market. NOT a cheap place. However, I got a great deal and a bargain for the price. I booked at the right time and spent about $75 less a night than others. ;)

Getting to Fort Lauderdale, when we were there last year at about this time, we stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. Really super convenient to get to the port and at a great price (again).

I book for convenience and price. IF you take your time and research, you can get a great hotel for a really good price. And that makes you smart not a "cynical cheapskate". Like you, Lois. :)

"Holiday Inn Express" does not come close to fitting the bill for a luxury resort hotel, except that it is WELL under $500/night.

Not to you specifically, but generally, if you don't have a reasonable answer to the original posters questions, just don't post anything at all. The original poster, clearly by posting a high amount for a hotel was looking for a luxury hotel for his honeymoon.

I'm sorry, but there are a number of previous comments that are a bit snarky and condescending. I am not sure why the old saying of, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't' say it anything at all" doesn't apply online except that hiding behind relative anonymity lets some post things they wouldn't feel as comfortable saying in person. It is no ones business what someone spends on a hotel or frankly why they decided to spend what they do. He was just looking for some advice, not a commentary on the value of spending that amount.

As I previously stated there is a big difference in a Holiday Inn Express and a luxury hotel. If you haven't stayed at a Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton or similar high end luxury property, it may not be as apparent what the difference are. Some people like a burger at McDonald's pre-cruise, others prefer Capital Grill. Both serve beef, the costs are wildly different. Would you put down those that prefer Capital Grill? Some people stay in inside or balcony cabins for $100/night or less, others prefer the penthouse for 10x or more of that, to each their own.

Happy sailing, whatever pre-cruise hotel you choose,

Jenna

Jenna, no need to get excited. Your point is made, but to kill a gnat you don't need a sledgehammer.

Next time I just won't reply to thread and now I will unsubscribe

from it.

We will be staying at the Best Western for precruise one night.Three years in a row. Clean, free breakfast ( not pastry and coffee),airport pickup and transfers to pier for a reasonable fee.

What's the rate for Best Western? I get nervous booking hotels so always research here on the boards.
