daffyraffy Posted April 11, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2016 Hi We are flying RT into Key West but cruising from Fort Lauderdale. Does anyone have a suggestion on which car rental company has drop off and pick up from Port Everglades? Appreciate a response. Thank you!
cb at sea Posted April 11, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 11, 2016 Why are you doing that???? You will be limited by KW rental companies.....
CruiserBruce Posted April 12, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 12, 2016 If you come over to the Florida Departures board, here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=495 You will see MANY threads on car rentals in Florida.
Sailor_Sally Posted April 12, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 12, 2016 You do realize that Key West is hours from Port Everglades and the road really backs up ?
Treven Posted April 12, 2016 #5 Share Posted April 12, 2016 You mean Key West has an actual airport? Imagine that!
Aquahound Posted April 12, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 12, 2016 Hi We are flying RT into Key West but cruising from Fort Lauderdale. Does anyone have a suggestion on which car rental company has drop off and pick up from Port Everglades? Appreciate a response. Thank you! Take your pick. Unlike what cb said, all the major rental car companies are here. Enterprise, Hertz, Budget and Avis have locations just outside of Port Everglades, so I would go with one of those 4. Otherwise, all the major companies are also at the FLL airport, which is only a few miles away from PE.
capriccio Posted April 12, 2016 #7 Share Posted April 12, 2016 (edited) I hope you are coming in at least a day early and leaving a day later and plan on spending some time in Key West and/or the other keys. It is around a 4 hour drive (plus time for rental car pick-up and drop-off) in ideal circumstances and if there is an accident on the Overseas Highway you can be stuck for hours. loubetti Posted April 12, 2016 #8 Share Posted April 12, 2016 You mean Key West has an actual airport? Imagine that! It is a very nice airport too, accepts airline jets. Flew into it last year for a day trip from Boca Raton. Otherwise, figure 3.5 to 4 hrs drive from Key West to FLL.

kitty9 Posted April 12, 2016 #11 Share Posted April 12, 2016 Most rental car companies do what you want, but it's not cheap. The least expensive option I found is Dollar, for their smallest car is $59 per day. That's for pick up at Key West Airport and drop off at Ft Lauderdale International. Why fly into KW instead of FLL? Would be a lot easier as that causeway from KW can get really jammed, especially if there's an accident.
marco Posted April 12, 2016 #12 Share Posted April 12, 2016 I've driven from FLL to KW a couple of times. I would allow 4 hours, minimum. You MAY do better than that, but allow 4.

Jane2357 Posted April 12, 2016 #14 Share Posted April 12, 2016 (edited) My sister winters at her home in Key West - so we are there often. We drive down from north of Ft Myers and the portion between Key West and Miami - is around 4 hrs - IF things are moving along with no problems. In many places it is just a two lane road - so please give yourself enough time. I hope you are adding days on to the front or back of your cruise to enjoy KW. Tons of fun and so much to explore. diane.in.ny Posted April 12, 2016 #15 Share Posted April 12, 2016 If memory serves me correctly, both Avis and National at FLL offer a free shuttle to Port Everglades.
SPacificbound Posted April 13, 2016 #16 Share Posted April 13, 2016 It wa a longer drive than we had anticipated due to the two lane driving. Fortunately we drove down after our cruise. My favorite place in Florida so far.
Elaine5715 Posted April 13, 2016 #17 Share Posted April 13, 2016 Flights into Key West are frequently delayed or cancelled due to high winds or other weather. Due to the short runways, sometimes the airline just substitutes a smaller plane and a number of passengers get pushed to another flight.
