winowino Posted April 23, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 23, 2016 We're getting excited for our first cruise ever! I keep reading advice to take metallic hooks to hang jackets or whatever. Are the cabin walls of the Island Princess metal?
Rare TracieABD Posted April 23, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 23, 2016 Yes. Most cruise ships have metal walls- this is to prevent rapid spread of a fire. One advantage is you can get a strong magnet hook and create additional storage in you cabins.:)
OCruisers Posted April 23, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 23, 2016 The walls were metal when we were on Island! :)

Enjoy your Cruise;)
paul929207 Posted April 23, 2016 #5 Share Posted April 23, 2016 Magnets work great. We hang our lanyards, itinerary, plans, etc from them.
Rare cr8tiv1 Posted April 23, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 23, 2016 Need a really strong magnet for heavier items. Go to DAISO and pickup long S hooks to hang from the television railing for jackets, purses, caps.
GUT2407 Posted April 23, 2016 #7 Share Posted April 23, 2016 Just make sure your cruise card doesn't get too closely to the magnet.

Putterdude Posted April 24, 2016 #9 Share Posted April 24, 2016 On cruises with many ports and tours I will make up an itinerary spread sheet and put it on the wall behInd the desk so we both can keep track of what we are doing. It's held in place with a couple magnets that we bring aboard for that purpose.
framer Posted April 24, 2016 #10 Share Posted April 24, 2016 Last Christmas I hung battery operated Christmas lights around the cabin with old hard drive magmets:D. I also have two LED flashlights that have built in heavy duty magnets and can be placed on the cabin walls. I've heard but not tried making a clothes line using magnets. framer
Aus Traveller Posted April 24, 2016 #11 Share Posted April 24, 2016 We take several button-size magnets. On embarkation day we put up the initial Princess Patter that has the itinerary for the cruise, then every day, lay the new Patter over the lower half of the original one, leaving the itinerary visible. The magnets are strong enough to hold around a week's worth of Patters, then we remove the older ones. We also put a series of family photos on the wall so our family 'travels' with us.:)

wishfulone Posted April 24, 2016 #14 Share Posted April 24, 2016 Blu tac also works well for an itinerary spreadsheet. It rolls off easily at the end of the cruise and doesn't leave any marks.
Ron the Rev Posted April 24, 2016 #15 Share Posted April 24, 2016 Another use for magnets is to use several pairs of them, sandwiching the bottom of the shower curtain to give a bit of weight, so as to stop it " attacking " you. Nothing worse than being hugged by a bit of plastic sheeting.:D

dizlove Posted April 26, 2016 #17 Share Posted April 26, 2016 Doors are magnetic too. Use magnets to decorate the inside and/or outside of your door.
shredie Posted April 26, 2016 #18 Share Posted April 26, 2016 Doors are magnetic too. Use magnets to decorate the inside and/or outside of your door. Technically, the doors and walls are not magnetic. They are metal and magnets will stick to them. :D
Npants Posted May 6, 2016 #19 Share Posted May 6, 2016 Do you know if the removable command strip hooks are allowed? Thank you!
floridalover5623 Posted May 7, 2016 #20 Share Posted May 7, 2016 Do you know if the removable command strip hooks are allowed? Thank you! Of course. There are no set rules which say what is & isn't allowed. Short of drilling holes in the walls or epoxying permanent hooks go right ahead.

Rare Steelers0854 Posted May 7, 2016 #22 Share Posted May 7, 2016 Just remember in some off chance if the command hook discolor or damages the wall they will charge you for the damages.
JudithLynne Posted May 7, 2016 #23 Share Posted May 7, 2016 I tape up the itinerary from the Patter which includes the nightly dress code. I also put up a calendar sheet that covers the days of the cruise with our activities listed. I have a list of other ships in port. BUT most of all, I have about 20 magnetic photo pockets with our favorite photos that cover 26 years of cruising. I also have included photos of our pets that we miss so much while way. I arrange my photos in groups on the walls. It makes our cabin feel like home.

IECalCruiser Posted May 7, 2016 #25 Share Posted May 7, 2016 We bring a map of the area we will be cruising and place a magnet at each port and then we use another magnet to show our current position and change it several times on sea days.
