OBC in lieu of Sip and Sail Promo

If I'm going to take the OBC instead of the Beverage package, do I need to call Princess to do the booking or can I book myself on the website? I walked thru booking on line but didn't see any option. Or is it something that you fix once onboard?

We just booked a 2017 cruise and simply told the Princess representative that we wanted the OBC in lieu of the beverage package. Easy peezee.

It is a different promo code in their system and both persons in the cabin must be on the same promo code. That means one person cannot have the aibp and one obc. They both have to have the same choice.

You can book it online and then call Princess to switch promo codes. You won't be able to change onboard.

 

Before you book, though, think about this: If what you want is the credit, think about waiting for the 3 for Free sale that starts Sept. 1. It looks to me like the free gratuities and OBC in that promo would give you more financial benefit than the Sip & Sale. At least with one of our cruises, it looks like we could get $700 benefit with 3 for Free as opposed to $500 on S&S. This is assuming the basic fare doesn't go up when they change promos.

Jim, I was thinking about that too but am looking to book an April 2017 transatlantic and don't know if that will be included in the 'three for free' promo. So thinking I better book sip and sail as that ends 8/31. Then if my cruise is covered can then switch to the new promo.

MCC Retired made a typo error when creating the subject for their thread that the new promotion begins on 9/1 because the text they cut & pasted from their source shows a 9/6 starting date.

Is it likely that the new promo with be restricted to balcony and above?

I've got my eye on an ocean view.

In the original thread (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2394041) about this upcoming promotion the OP quoted these details. The details about the cabin category upgrade mentions all types of cabins so it appears that unlike the Sip+Sail offer, this 3 for Free will include all types of cabins.

What is the onboard credit in lieu of the sip and sail? Does it vary depending on the length of the cruise? We will be on a 15 day cruise with the sip and sail promo.

Yes, it depends on the length of the cruise. It will be $250 per person for your 15 days. :)

While that may be the case I don't actually trust Princess on that. I tried booking a previous promo that had no restrictions listed at all. I was told on the phone that it was for balcony and higher. When I pointed out that the promo listed on the Princess site had no cabin restrictions at all they still refused to honor it. A day later the wording on the web site was changed.

I completely agree with you and even this promotion's details are contradictory...it shows the amount of credit passengers booking as a single will receive & then elsewhere it says these rates aren't valid for passengers booking as singles. :eek:

 

The list of such contradictory statements is long for Princess who obviously doesn't have staff who are capable of proofreading their statements & only when informed about such inconsistencies does it get corrected. :rolleyes:

Certainly, one has to run the numbers for what works best for them.

I'm getting $500 sailing solo for my 14 day in '18.

That's a lotta' sippin'.:D

 

No brainier if you solo. No value in two drink packages. $37 for on person a day. $18.50 a day person makes the drink package a better value for most people.

Too bad you can't get a drink package and a $250 OBC.
