Thank you, Julie! I had a feeling there would be a big change over before our December 18 cruise. We are very excited about our Regal Princess cruise. Many seem to love this ship.

Being new to the Regal Princess, can someone tell me what "Crab Shack" is all about?? Is it a restaurant? or offerings in MDR or Lido buffet? What is offered and where?? Thanks in advance for any explanation(s).:)

Not sure why, but it's never listed in the Patters. I'm fairly positive that it was open on boarding day when I sailed on the repo.

Maureen

Sorry to disagree. We have found it is always listed in the welcome aboard Patters. Back page, dining option list. You need to look closely or you will miss it. It is shown as "lunch" in one of the three MDRs listings.

Well, I hate to disagree. Although it may be listed in some Patters, I have in front of me the Welcome aboard patter from the same cruise that jrzebird was on, and it does not list any time for lunch in the MDR of the first day. On the other hand, I can confirm that it is available since we ate there. It is open till 1pm.

I was on the Regal for the repo from NY and it appeared that the Crab Shack was offered pretty much every night. I was surprised because in the past it was only held a couple of times.

Maureen

Maybe I'm wrong Maureen, but I looked back at the patters for that cruise (we were on it also) and could only find Crab Shack offered 3 times. But then there was a lot going on during that cruise.

Sorry I have no idea as I did not look at any clocks really. I just kept my watch on ship time which I assume is the same as St. M. Time. I can't confirm for sure though.

We were there a couple of weeks ago and had a similar experience. I don't remember seeing any clocks while on shore, or at least none that disagreed with my watch. In looking back at the Patter for St. M, there is no mention of a different time zone and we didn't reset any times. Everything ran according to ship time.

The Crab Shack is an informal cost added ($29pp) food option for your evening meal (6-9pm). It is located in the Horizon court Bistro area. Dinner consists of a crab pot with crab legs, clams and other seafood and veggies. It is sit down dining and is only offered a couple times per cruise.

Julie, I am really looking forward to hearing your thoughts in regards to this "big" ship versus your other Princess sailings. Our most recent Princess sailing was in Sept 2015 on the Caribbean Princess. We have been sailing Celebrity "M" class lately, so am really curious as to how I will feel about the size of the Regal. With that said, many seem to love her and I am really excited about the cruise. A few days after we leave the Regal we will be boarding our first "S" class Celebrity ship, and are very excited about that too.

Thanks again for sharing your cruise with us. What's up next for you?

Marie,

We liked the Regal. It did not seem too big. This is the largest Princess ship we have been on. Can't compare with Celebrity line as we have not cruised it.

#1 had 2,296 days. #2 had 1,106 and #3 had 743 days. I have no idea what the cutoff was or any info. About the luncheon.

Julie

I would be interested in knowing how many dyays the MTP has and the cut off for the most traveled get together. Plus, is there a luncheon or a cocktail party?

Onboard within 1hr of leaving our hotel.

We are lunching in Alfredos.

I'll be following along too. We board November 20th. Might start a new tradition--Thanksgiving at sea.

Alfredo's has been my choice for lunch on the Royal and Regal. Was the dining room open for lunch today too?

Enjoy your cruise.

Sandi

Yes, Alfredo`s is better than ever, although i would like a little more pasta in my soup.

We are just home after a lovely cruise on the Regal. Sorry I didn't come out here sooner - I had a lot of free minutes left and could have helped with the question answering!

The dining room was open for lunch during embarkation and it wasn't listed in the Patter. There were limited selections on the menu (2 appetizers, 2 main courses, etc.). We looked but did not eat there.

In Alfredo's, there was sometimes a chef making pasta out in the seating area. We tried the spaghetti carbonara and it was fantastic.

We were the first Princess ship to dock at Amber Cove so there was no port guide available and people on the ship didn't know a whole lot and were as curious as we were. There was a small craft market and several other shops open. And there were area where you could participate in some of the immersion experiences that are part of Fathom that were free right at the port.

The Amber Cove pool was quite nice with lots of loungers and a huge pool that went around an island with more chairs. There was a swim up bar and a large restaurant. And very nice servers with menus walking around to those lounging who wanted food or beverages. There was also a kids pool, water slide, and a grassy area with some hammocks. I walked out to the overwater cabanas which seemed empty except for one that the excursion staff was enjoying. There was a netted in area around those cabanas and a ladder if the cabana inhabitants wanted to jump in the ocean.

The cabanas over the pool were in use. There's also a bar perched on a hill over the pool area that I am sure had a nice view but we didn't walk up there. One negative was that the music was a bit loud for the crowd, but otherwise it was pleasant. No beach at Amber Cove but the water seemed brownish, maybe due to all of the rain they have had lately.

As for dining, we ate at Crown Grill once, and 3 times each at Horizon Court and the MDR. I think the soonest we got out of the MDR was 2 hours, it was quite slow even when they weren't busy. We love the theme nights in Horizon Court, especially the Mongolian BBQ which was the first night. The themes are posted in the Patter.

Disembarkation was a breeze with the Mobile Passport. We breezed through, ahead of even the Global Entry folks!

With the exception of the evil machines at the casino, everything else was wonderful on the Regal.

We were on the same cruise. Had great weather. Fine entertainment. Great service. Delicious food and we did not use any of the specialty restaurants and only went to the Horizon Court one time (nice selection but we like being served). Joined the pop choir and had fun. Lots to do or not to do. Lots of gambling people on board for some reason. Not a lot of young people on board. Very elegant ship.
