njkruzer Posted December 2, 2016 #5 Share Posted December 2, 2016 DH always brings his, a RCCL one he won or received on an a cruise many years ago. It goes in his back pack. Never a problem.
Merion_Mom Posted December 2, 2016 #6 Share Posted December 2, 2016 I can't ever use the RC one. Just doesn't work well. Pack your own in your checked bag. (best idea yet: Take your bottle to a bar and ask a bartender to open it. They are happy to help.)

Dall Posted December 2, 2016 #9 Share Posted December 2, 2016 Our friends had theirs taken last year when boarding Anthem of the Seas, it was the kind that had the foil cutter as well. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
Shak Posted December 2, 2016 #10 Share Posted December 2, 2016 I pack mine in my check luggage to avoid any delays at the airport. At the cruise terminal I put in my carry on. If cruise line wants to take it or have a second look I would rather that they do it at the check point than have my luggage delayed. So far the cruise line has not bothered to look at my corksrew. Here is a corkscrew that doesn't have a blade. https://www.amazon.com/Franmara-Boomerang-Step-Corkscrews-Color/dp/B00480DYY2/ref=sr_1_134?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1480680519&sr=1-134&keywords=corkscrew+wine+opener Shak

jamesr3939 Posted December 3, 2016 #13 Share Posted December 3, 2016 Never had an issue with either TSA or ship security in my carry on. I recent bought a metal bottle opener at a Key West port stop and that thing has caused me more issues with TSA than I care to mention. I finally asked after the 3rd secondary check. I was told since the bottle opener, nail clippers, and cork screw were packed so close together it raised a red flag on the scanner. Now I have them packed in different locations (only a few inches apart and two flights with no issues.

George C Posted December 3, 2016 #15 Share Posted December 3, 2016 Do not have it in checked luggage, I always have wine opener with tiny knife, had it in carry on for dozens of cruises , on recent cruise had it in checked luggage and was called to naughty room , told them what it was and then they gave me luggage with wine opener, but on plane need to do opposite but it in checked luggage
griffy116 Posted December 4, 2016 #16 Share Posted December 4, 2016 I've had the one they give you and I HATE IT. I've taken my own and never had a problem, but I put it in my checked luggage. It doesn't have a knife though.
davekathy Posted December 4, 2016 #17 Share Posted December 4, 2016 I always pack a cork screw in our luggage. It has the 1.25 inch blade/foil cutter. Never been called down to the naughty room.

They are the pull straight up type with no leverage. So require a little brute force to open a bottle. Any gentleman should be able to use one. jamesr3939 Posted December 6, 2016 #19 Share Posted December 6, 2016 . Any gentleman should be able to use one. Guess that explains why I can't get one to work.
