Towel animals??

Celebrity does not need to get with it. They are tacky. I always considered it a feature and sane that Celebrity does not do them. The cabin attendent should not be wasting time on them.

I'm with you on this! I was quite happy to have them on Disney since we had a grandchild sharing our cabin. On RCL last October I requested that we not have them; issue resolved :D

Since I consider towel animals to be juvenile and a misuse of employee time, I'm not at all disappointed that they are not an expected amenity. I would much prefer that the attendants use their time performing their primary duties.

A properly dusted, vacuumed and cleaned cabin or a rushed job and a fluffy bunny twisted out of a towel? Decisions, decisions.

We will be on Reflection (first time on Celebrity) in March and I love towel animals! Am I about to be disappointed? 😓

With the attendants no longer having assistants(on the Eclipse)they seldom have the time. The turn down chocolates are fine. They did have assistants on our 2015 2 week cruise, but I guess no longer(exception might be in the suites)

Towel animals are downscale. Not professional. Saying that is not being elitist. Celebrity is definitely a cut above HAL. HAL was the last to ban balcony smoking and they still allow smoking in the casino. So they are downscale from Celebrity. I have sailed on many lines and never wanted the towel animals. Some of them were very well done and did make me smile but I didn't want them. Or like them using my sunglasses and other personal items to enhance them. All the cruise lines don't have to be cookie cutter so just because other cruise lines do them does not mean Celebrity should.

If towel animals are important to you, Celebrity is probably not the cruise line for you. They don't generally do them and you should not have an expectation that is going to change. It is not their style.

As of Feb. 2016 smoking was still allowed in the Casino on the Regal Princess, as well.

You will seriously be disappointed with the lack of towel animals?? I can see removing the chocolate affecting some people but cabin steward have better things to do than play with the towels. Maybe my daughter would love those animals but I think Celebrity is more geared towards adults.

I don't know about R.C. so much as I've only cruised with them once. I DO know that Princess, Disney, Carnival, Norwegian and HAL all do/did towel animals. In that sense, Celebrity needs to get with it. Guess if one doesn't appreciate the animals they could ask to exclude them in their staterooms. I see them as a bonus as well as smile worthy. Everyone needs a smile now and then.😊😊

I can see them on Disney(the kids might like them)Carnival/NCL are real down market lines(yes, complain, if you like, but they are!) Princess did have them on our 2016 B2B cruise, but I don't look at Princess as quite to the standard of Celebrity. Too much pushing of the crappy art sales & side walk sales on the Regal. Celebrity has them, too (the Eclipse)but they were not as heavily promoted as those on the Regal. I understand it helps generate extra revenue, but they're still tacky.

They have cut back on cabin assistants so the attendant has to do everything.....in my opinion, making a towel animal should be at the bottom of the priority list of things to do for passengers.....but again, that is just my opinion.

Celebrity needs to get with it? As to making towel animals for everyone?...really? They are not something I care about

in the least........guess I am not "with it".......oh well. I smile while on a cruise without them.:)

A few years ago, our beloved dog passed away while we were sailing on Equinox. The steward saw me crying in the hallway and offered his sympathy. After that, he left towel animals to cheer us up each night, a monkey, a seal wearing my sun glasses, a swan reading a book. Each morning, he'd ask if I liked his creation. I wouldn't have ever missed the towel animals if they hadn't appeared, but I really appreciated the thoughtfulness.

Why the scorn over towel animals?

If the OP had stopped at post #17 that would have been a good end to it. I think if OP does ask they probably will get them because the crew tries to accomodate passenger requests. But then OP in a later post says Celebrity needs to "get with it" and make having towel animals the default because other cruise lines have them. That was bound to cause more discussion. I am not going to explain again why I don't care for them or why I disagree. If you or OP wants them on your cruise, request them. I have been cruising Celebrity 20 years and they have a certain style and usually excellent cabin service. Better than the other cruise lines. That has been without towel animals. That is not likely to change but those who really want towel animals can ask. I can't say for sure but you will probably get them.

Wow. That was an awesome room steward! The towel animals make me smile and believe they are a nice added touch. Sorry for the loss of your pup.

I could have easily stopped at #17. But then you all decided to tell me reasons why towel animals should be discontinued.

I asked if I could expect them on my cruise coming up since this will be my first Celebrity. A "yes" or a "no" would have sufficed. But no, many felt the need to berate me for liking them or hoping for them.

Your opinion has been noted. Mine has been noted. Let's move on.

Oops! I missed that comment. I agree that towel animals aren't Celebrity's style. I don't care one way or the other about the towel animals and wouldn't request them. Maybe OP will find that Celebrity has special little touches that delight her more than towel animals.

Thank you.

The steward and his assistant were amazing on that cruise.

Towel animals aren't the norm on Celebrity, but I think you enjoy their own little touches- 'champagne' welcome and Officers that greet passengers when they pass. I hope you enjoy your cruise.

I do not agree. I don't like to label the various cruise lines as upscale/downscale etc. It implies that the choice to sail on any given line is driven solely by your ability to pay and how much "class" you have. It assumes that you would prefer to cruise on the most expensive line in the most expensive cabin possible. That simply is not true.

The first thing any company needs to do when selling a product or service, is to target a particular consumer. Each cruise line has made that choice and provides price, amenities, accommodations, and itineraries to capture that particular demographic.

Celebrity does not cater to the same demographic as cruise lines which typically do towel animals Their typical passenger skews older, with older or no children traveling with them, those with more disposable income (but not without concern for value), interest in moderate length itineraries, and opting for cruising more frequently. Food and service are valued higher than touches that might be considered "cutesy". Towel animals one of those things.

Nothing is "wrong" with that. It's just a matter of finding your best fit. And...that is likely to evolve as you and your family do.

If you do sail Celebrity and you do ask for towel animals,,,,, I hope you will show your appreciation to your cabin steward with an extra generous tip.

We enjoyed seeing the towel animals when my Grandson was small. Now he's 23 and the novelty is gone. For a few years after they discontinued the chocolates, I carried the chocolates and discretely placed them on the pillows at night...again for my Grandson, who went around asking if he could have your chocolate. I'm not concerned about the towel animals. I appreciated the time the steward spent on these and always tipped extra for the smiles it brought to my Grandson as he anticipated what the animal would be and what it would be wearing (sunglasses, scarf, etc). I always thought it was more appreciated by the small children on the cruise. Guess I was wrong. I could, however, get behind a "BRING BACK THE CHOCOLATES" thread.

Last summer on Silhouette, we had adjoining cabins with different stewards. My kids got a hanging monkey one day, and we got a funny rabbit wearing my headphones, with the remote positioned like it was an iPod. But we definitely don't get them often.

The chocolates are back. I will admit though the chocolates are not something I care much about whether they are there or not except getting rid of them seemed to represent a downgrade. At the end of the cruise I tend to have a bunch of them left and munch on then at the airport.

..... I will ask for them on our cruise next month. .....

After all the comments indicating that towel animals are not a Celebrity feature, and that the steward has much to do every day, possibly even too much, you will still ask for him to take time out of his very busy day to make towel animals? I realize that you paid for your cruise and you should have your expectations met. But at least have some compassion for the poor over worked steward and not demand extra things from him just to make you smile. How about making him smile by not asking him to work even harder to please you? If you can't live without this non-standard perk, then cancel your cruise and find a line that better meets your needs.

We were on 2 Celebrity cruises in January/February 2017. Toward the end of the first cruise (on the Eclipse) we found a towel animal (a lobster) on our bed. It did make me smile. We sailed for 21 nights total and had one towel animal. It was fun, but I wouldn't add to our cabin attendant's workload by asking for it.

In what way do towel animals say "Modern Luxury"?

It's kind of silly having an argument about whether they should be provided on all lines. Celebrity also doesn't provide rock climbing walls, ice shows, or wave riders. Should we be disappointed when we don't find them onboard?
