What happens to unspent OBC?

Recommended Posts

I think I know the answer but just in case, what happens to unspent onboard credit at the end of your cruise? If your account is in the negative does it just disappear or do you get a refund on your cc?

We have some OBC due to cabin issues we've been having and we were going to do an excursion but it's looking like rain all week so not sure about that now.

If the OBC is refundable, you can get it as cash in the last day, or let it be credited to your credit card automatically.

If the OBC is non-refundable, you would lose it. However, if you go to the casino, you can get a cash advance against your onboard account for a 5% fee. Better than losing the entire amount.

When I cashed out at the casino, I didnt have the pay the 5% fee, or is that because I was on a cash account?

Yes, cash accounts and player's club members are exempt from the 5% fee.

Sounds like you need a pick-me-up. Go eat in a specialty restaurant!

On Serenade a few weeks ago, had non refundable OBC and had to leave .68 cents on the table.

Even bought a pen for 3.95 in the gift shop on last sea day to be sure I got close.

One time, on the Explorer, I was dinging out back in Cape Liberty. Instead of dinging, it went "eennnnnnnnhhhhhhhhh". She picked up the phone and called Guest Services. There is a twenty five cent credit remaining on my SeaPass account. Did I want to go back upstairs and get it?

After one of our cruises, we had $1.82 OBC left but decided to just forget such a small amount. The following month, it showed up as a credit on my credit card statement. I was pleasantly surprised! :)

I had the same pleasant experience with a few bucks more, but still surprised. Can anyone tell us what the difference is between refundable and non- refundable OBCs are? I thought mine were non-refundable, but there it was.

OBC from Royal is usually always non-refundable. OBC from Visa points and from a travel agent is refundable.

Happened to me several times also. You had "refundable" on board credit, versus

"non refundable".

Had $200 in Royal OBC and $200 I put on. We spent only $220 so had $180 left. Went down the last night and they cut me a check for the balance. Thankfully they use the non refundable first.. Pretty simple. We had no credit card on file so no where for balance to be sent. We're light spenders. .

Thanks for a great laugh, Carol. You made me burst out in laughter out loud (and I am all by myself). :')

I am on the Allure right now. I have OBC that came from our TA. It was marked non-refundable on the TV so we went to GS with the copy of our paperwork from TA. Turns out after a phone call to our TA and frustration with the GS that this TA's OBC was from a special promotion that RCI and the TA had where our OBC would be non-refundable even though it originated from our TA. :( You learn something new everyday.
