Okay we have the smoking thread, what about BALCONY MUSIC

Recommended Posts

What's the verdict on playing music out on your balcony?

I was on the BA 2/26, and these two younger girls were blasting their godawful music on little speakers they connected to their iPhone. I leaned over and politely tried to explain that I wouldn't force them to listen to MY music, but they responded with "Look we're paying for this, too."

Would you call security? Done something else? It annoyed me because the BA has pretty much ZERO outdoor quiet zones, which is why I booked a balcony in the first place.

Well, I hope you didn't tell them about their "godawful" music. What time of day was it? During the day, I guess there's not much you could do, but at night, that might be a different story. First, I would call the service desk, ask them about noise on the balcony, depending on their answer, I would ask for the hotel manager and explain to him about your situation and how you should handle it, or would they take responsibility to go to the cabin and explain about the noise. Just make sure the adults in the cabin are aware of the youngsters back talk to you and you will not tolerate that.

If they were blasting it, YES. We have had this problem on a ship but the music was so loud you could hear it on the balcony, hallway and through the walls. One guy pounded on the door then got security. I love most kinds of music. I bring head phones.

sadly, parents always side with their kids today. the fact that the teens back talked you would mean nothing to them.

id report it to guest services, but again, what can you really do. you could easily have 2 or 3 people on the balcony next door socializing, laughing, etc. adn doing nothing that is in any way a violation of any policies. even if they took the music inside, if they had the door open, you'd probably hear it. tough one, but sometimes you just get stuck next to those kinds of situations.

We had this happen on our recent Disney Cruise and it was an adult. I didn't complain but was tempted to after 2 hours. I don't understand people who are this oblivious or just don't care. Same as the diapers in pool crowd I guess. *sigh*

I don't think there is much you can do about this. It's like if your neighbors at home were playing their music during the day. They are in their area. If it was after 11 on more than one night I might phone guest services.

I think when we choose to sail with hundreds or thousands of strangers in tight quarters, we know there are going to be some annoyances. My husband and I would complain to each other, but otherwise ignore it. We tend not to sweat the small stuff. This is certainly small stuff. Now, blaring music in the middle of the night is another story.

Not everyone realizes that we all do not care for their music and do not have enough class or common sense to use earphones. We were at a resort in Mexico where a fellow was playing his music through those horrible tinny sounding speakers attached to his iphone. I simply asked him to tone it down a few notches and he did, others applauded me for my actions. He could have told me to take a hike but he was polite and apologetic. Sad that others either do not care or just don't get it!.. Too much smoke, perfume, shouting on their cell phone, or just loud music can spoil a vacation for others. Lets not even get into the walkie talkie people and their "godawful" devices.

i bring a small bluetooth speaker and listen to music at a moderate volume in my cabin and on my balcony.

i make sure that i don't do it at night or too early in the morning when people might be sleeping...

haven't ever had a complaint but i also usually do a quick peek over the railing to see if there's anyone out on their balcony around me. if there are others out, i would place the speaker inside the room pointing out the open door instead of actually on the balcony with me.

IMO, if you're respectful there's no reason why you can't enjoy your music. balconies aren't designated "quiet zones" or anything like that.

If your music is spilling over from "your space" onto my space, I don't really care what time it is or what kind of music it is. Use ear buds. Listening to music on your balcony any other way is just rude.

Wow!

You know what, I don't like what you look like or the sound of your voice. I don't have a problem with what other passengers look and sound like, just you. Your image and sound is spilling over from "your space" onto my space so you need to be restricted to your cabin.

See how ridiculous you sound?

You are on a cruise ship with all different kinds of people. Each with their own flaws, quirks, and views of the world. If you go out into public AT ALL, you don't have a "space" all to your own any more. If you don't like this, the solution is real simple, don't leave your house.

I have no problem with people playing music on their balcony at a reasonable volume.

What I do have a problem with is people playing music with the F-inheimer or lots of trashy lyrics. Would be like playing a porno in the Atrium for a movie and saying the kids or adults that don't want to watch it don't have to.

Otherwise, enjoy whatever godawful music you wants. Just keep that which contains swearing and other crap in your stateroom with the door shut.

There is nothing rude about it unless it is after 11 PM. If it is daytime, deal with it.

It is the exact same concept if I and a friend were sitting out the in backyard next door to you at home with music playing. If it was after 11 PM, call the police. If it is daytime, again, deal with it.

Music is ok if your neighbors are Ok with it!

Just remember you're on vacation and need to respect others space as well.

Headphones might be your best bet here since you want music.

Plus others are trying to enjoy themselves just as you are! Be respectful and you won't create problems on your vacation!

Happy cruising!!
