Okay we have the smoking thread, what about BALCONY MUSIC

Recommended Posts

Well, if I like the music, that's one thing. I'm joking. But, it's like at the gym the other day, the girl next to me took off her headphones and just started blasting her awful music. Didn't care about me at all. That's just plain rude.

What's the verdict on playing music out on your balcony?

I was on the BA 2/26, and these two younger girls were blasting their godawful music on little speakers they connected to their iPhone. I leaned over and politely tried to explain that I wouldn't force them to listen to MY music, but they responded with "Look we're paying for this, too."

Would you call security? Done something else? It annoyed me because the BA has pretty much ZERO outdoor quiet zones, which is why I booked a balcony in the first place.

I Would SING ALONG with their music.

Loudly.

They would leave. :D

I bring my blue tooth speaker on my trips. I also listen to my music on my balcony. Usually in the later part of the morning when I drink my coffee in my bath robe looking out on the ocean. I do so at a reasonable level. I don't play it late at night. I don't play it early in the morning. I also have headphones but prefer to wear those when walking around outside of my cabin. I don't feel anything is wrong with this since I'm not trying to annoy anyone.

I would hope if my neighbor had a problem they would say something directly to me instead of calling security. But if I'm not doing anything completely obnoxious for the hour or so a day I may be doing this, is it worth getting completely worked up about it? I could see if I had the volume cranked up as loud as possible, but at a reasonable television level there is no valid complaint.

I agree with previous posters that you are on a ship with thousands of other people with varying backgrounds, likes, dislikes, preferences, ethnicity's. Is it really worth getting all bent out of shape over something so insignificant that lasts such a short amount of time?

As much as I love music, I understand that not everyone would want to listen to the type of music I like or as loud as I like playing it. So, I wear my earbuds, so I don't disturbe anyone. I call that being considerate to others who are also on vacations.

I also feel that if someone wants to listen to music on their balcony with friends they should be able to if (1) they are being respectful and not blasting it so that every balcony around them can hear it and (2) if the are respectful with regard to how long they are out there and what time of the day/night they are playing it. That is called being considerate to others and understanding that you are not the only person on the cruise and everyone is on vacation and wants to have a good time and maybe that good time doesn't include listening to their music.

If someone was blasting the music, where half of the ship could hear it or playing it early morning or late night, I would probably call down to guest services and ask that they ask them to turn it down some.

I think one giant point that hasn't been mentioned here is.. common sense and common decency aren't so common anymore. I have played music on my balcony plenty of times. Always at a "low" to "medium" volume. I wouldn't want my music to annoy my neighbor. If I heard my neighbors balcony door slide open, I'd kill the music for a while. If neither of my neighbors were on their balcony, I'd play it again. It's not rocket science. Just be decent human beings. I feel like the simple life solutions just aren't practiced anymore. It really is a shame.

Please leave the musical entertainment for the cruise ship to provide.

We don't need to hear your music , use earphones please .

You find the perfect balcony cabin , then it is ruined by entitled neighbors .

Well said.

It would annoy me if I wanted to sit on my balcony but had to listen other peoples music to do so. It could be coming from any of a number of surrounding balconies not just next door. Some folks are very inconsiderate and just don't get it, unless of course it is something that affects them directly. I use earphones or buds when on a plane or in other public areas, would not dream of forcing others to listen.

I understand it is there "right" to be able to inflict this torture on others but why would they if they can wear earphones? Just plain rude, I was going to use the word "ignorant" but do not want to ruffle any feathers.

Hmmm....pretty sure you just did use the word "ignorant".

I can't even imagine playing music on an open balcony without headphones! It just seems so incredibly inconsiderate.

While I do listen to music (with headphones) on my balcony at times, one main reason I cruise - in aft balconies - is for the "music" of the sea. My cruise vacations are planned entirely around enjoying quiet, peaceful days listening to the ocean on my balcony while catching up on my reading - and then hitting the casino at night ;). It would honestly ruin my vacation to have balcony neighbors playing music - thank goodness I have never encountered that!

I'm surprised at the number of people that think it's ok. It is not really the same as playing music in your backyard at home. It is more like playing music - without headphones - on a crowded subway train. Who does that???:rolleyes:

I agree with you completely. Until I read this thread it never occurred to me any one would even consider playing music on their balcony without headphones. It could be folks are defending and agreeing with this practice just to wind the rest of us up a little? I wonder what would happen if confronted with a neighbor such as this a person decided to pull out their portable microphone and amplifier. Pick up a book and start reading out loud to themselves, or breaking into a latest Rap rendition. A whole new new thread and discussion could be started, it may have already happened. You just can't make this stuff up!

Now this is an interesting thread. On our last flight there was a kid in the row next to us using a toy with a very annoying sound! For the first time ever, I thought "Oh my - I have to start bringing earplugs on flights!" The parents slept threw it! LOL. ;p

We've only once heard music on our balcony, but it was actually quite pleasant from someone playing a live guitar!

I can't imagine hearing something that is truly offensive. I don't know how you draw the line here. This is a very grey area. If we were truly offended, I think I would politely ask the neighbor to play it at a low level.

What if you had decided to play your own music while they were playing theirs? And the person on the other side of their balcony and above and below all did the same. There is nothing more annoying than hearing multiple sources of music. If everyone starts playing their own music, with their own speakers, wouldn't that be annoying to everyone? What is so difficult about using earbuds or headphones if you want to listen to music on your balcony? It seems like common sense and respect to me.

Not sure what the problem is. When couples on the balcony next to me are allowed to talk to each other or even laugh why shouldn't I be allowed to listen to music.

I have a really nice Bose bluetooth that we all sit on the balcony and listen to at a moderate sound and anytime I see anyone else on the balcony I ask them if they can hear it and/or if it is too loud or annoying and I have always had nothing but friendly comments. I would NEVER ask anyone to not sit and enjoy the balcony so this is NOT what I am suggesting but one thing I did notice is that even with my VERY GOOD Bose bluetooth speaker that is capable of playing very loud I tested it one afternoon and turned it up as loud as I could on the balcony and then went in the cabin and closed the door and locked/sealed it and I could barely hear it so if someone is ever in their cabin sleeping and someone happens to play music there's about a 99% chance they will not hear it anyway with how well the doors seal.

Unfortunately, some of these posters are NOT joking! We were in a Haven spa suite on the Breakaway a few years ago and the couple next to us played their very nice Bose speaker on the balcony every afternoon. At first I could not believe it! I generally sit on my balcony to read and relax. I don't want to listen to someone else's music. The couple was on their honeymoon (there was a cute sign on their cabin door). I just marked it down to youth.

The next year I was in a suite on a Carnival cruise during Spring Break and had the neighbors from hell who not only blasted music on the balcony but had a cabin full of partying folks all 4 days. It was partially my fault for sailing during Spring Break!!!

I think it is rude and inconsiderate not to use the ear buds. We have a H4 this fall on the Escape and I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

What about when the ship is in port and they have music blasting from speakers on the pier for an hour or two before all aboard? Our last cruise was 13 days with 7 ports. Most times our balcony was facing the pier so we heard the music loud and clear. I certainly didn't have a problem with it even though they played some music I wouldn't normally have listened to. I wonder if the people who complain about the music on balconies would complain to Guest Services or call Security. :') :D
