Oceania onboard ship credit

We are fortunate to have a $400 OBC on a July, 2017 Alaska cruise. What can we use this money for while on the ship? Excursions? Drinks? Gratuities? Clothing? Casino? This is a first for us, and we are unfamiliar with Oceania's OBC policy. Thank you for responses!

OBC will appear as a credit on your statement. You can use it for excursions, Canyon Ranch Spa, any of the shops and bars - anything that requires a payment. You can use it in the casino at the slot machines through your cabin card by "withdrawing" an amount for fee; your "withdrawal" and the fee

will appear on your statement.

The machines have only accepted cash in the past but it has been a year since we were onboard maybe things have changed

Usually anything you purchase on the ship your OBC can be used for

Unless this is brand new I think you must be thinking of another cruise line. Non refundable OBC is definitely not able to be withdrawn in the casino. I'm not sure about refundable.

Who should we contact, we were notified two days before the end of our journey we still had unused OBC, being value oriented cruisers were proceeded to use up the OBC the day before disembarkation. Returning home I noticed that my credit card was charged for the remaining amount of our OBC. it turns out that O accounting collected the outstanding OBC the same day we used it causing us to incur charges Seems unfair to me..... not a huge amount of money but really they can't wait until all the charges have cleared before the take back the OBC???? Help FDR if you are listening seems like bait and switch, or at least be very clear about when all OBC has to be used by......

When we booked we got $500 per person OBC. I changed our cabin from a concierge to ph suite. Today I made final pay for our sailing and was told that we have $400 per person because the promo changed when we switched. How does that make sense? I upgrade, end up paying Oceania more money and get penalized?!? We also lost $100 that our travel agent gave us. It may not seem like a big deal but to me it is. We lost $300 that could have been well spent on drinks. Anyone else have a similar situation? My travel agent is "working on it", we shall see what happens.

This sounds like a misunderstanding. More information needed.

Yes, what happened apparently you canceled your previous cruise and rebooked under the prevailing prices and promos. It's been this way for a while. Now if Oceania had offered you an upsell you would have been able to keep your previous promo.

As you are spending more money I'm a bit confused why you are losing OBC from your TA. I'd really question that.

When did you do the upgrade? Along with final payment or before?

Any time there is any change on my reservation I always get a new invoice. Even if it's just having the specialties added.

Our TA didn't explain that we would be losing anything in the promo we had. She put me on hold, called Oceania and a few moments later came back and said everything had been taken care of. We went from Concierge to PH. My TA invoice shows a $500 per person OBC for a cruise of our length. When I questioned that the answer was "we can put whatever we want on there ultimately Oceania decides how much OBC you get". We don't sail until September 22nd, final payment is due this month. Apparently the TA is working on it and will get back to me. We shall see.

The very first sentence of that Offer says that it only applies to NEW Bookings.

If you upgraded an old booking, then I don't think that you can demand anything-

I never hurts to throw yourself on their mercy, though.

You may find a friendly ear.

Give it a shot, but pleasantly :halo:

I wonder if they were thinking of this policy?

What are the casino policies?

Guests must be 18 or older to enter or gamble in the casinos on our ships. US dollars are used. A 3% fee will be charged to your account if we receive a cash advance against your shipboard account. There is a $3,000 maximum per guest per day for these cash advances.

I wonder if anyone has used non refundable OBC in the casino ?

Anytime you change the booking, the deal may alter to whatever is current. Even the price match guarantee from a "book onboard" could mean a net loss if you price goes down $200 but your O Life OBC goes down $300.

There's the rub: the words "cash advance." That's not the same as non-refundable OBC.

You present a credit card for your shipboard account when you check in for the cruise. If you request cash from the ship's purser and you don't have any refundable OBC, they will charge the cash to your credit card.

The credit card company calls that transaction a "cash advance." They charge the person -- or, in this case, the cruise line -- a fee (usually 3% of the total) for the privilege. O is simply passing the fee through to the passenger.

Additionally, all credit cards of which I am aware begin charging interest on the advanced cash from the day it was advanced, not from the close of the monthly billing cycle. (SedonaJoel may be able to confirm or refute this, if he's reading.)

Be very careful with cash advances on credit cards unless you know exactly what you're getting into. They can get expensive in a hurry.
