I will Stop Cruising if....

OP, there are a couple of questions in your question and many posters have touched on one or the other in their answers. First is the sub-question- I will stop cruising with Carnival if... (or even, Carnival will no longer be my preferred line if...). I am not sure that I have a real answer for that, it's probably at the point where I no longer feel like I'm receiving a good value for my vacation dollar. Since Carnival is so affordable and I'm not willing to pay significantly more to sail on another line that is probably when I would stop cruising, too. Our current plans are to alternate cruising with our trips to Germany so if we gave up cruising we'd probably go to Germany more often (and there are a lot of places in the US we'd like to see, too).

If we find it isn't memorable and fun. If we ever find we lose the anticipation for each cruise. We have made many friends on board; officers and crew alike. :D

We don't see losing the enjoyment happening any time soon.

IMHO, Carnival has made most cutbacks to increase their bottom line, and increase payouts to owners/stockholders. I've had enough of their cutbacks. Our next booked cruise is in February. We are retired, and lucky to live minutes away from some of the best beaches on the Gulf of Mexico, and have our own pool. We cruise to visit places we have never been before, and have been to most ports in the Caribbean, and after hitting them all, we may be done cruising.

Actually my next cruise is my last cruise for a while I believe. I've decided to go back to land based vacations as there are places I really want to go and spend several days exploring. I've scheduled a trip to Peru for next year, and really want to go to Costa Rica after that ... and a million other places.

Even with all the cutbacks people complain about, cruising, especially on Carnival, is still the best bang for my vacation buck. When it no longer continues to be, is when I will stop cruising. Not a minute before then

I will stop cruising if they stop offering lobster without an upcharge, ban smoking or ban gambling. The one area that doesn't get discussed enough with regards to cutbacks is the casino. The pay tables on the video poker, slots and table games are atrocious compared to land casinos (even those in the midwest ;) ) and no one seems to be complaining. They have got significantly worse since we started on CCL, I'm not sure if the other lines have also done the same. The poker machine is highway robbery as well. I could just not play but I have the sickness and I can't control myself, even when I know I'm going to lose :(

Hmmm what will make me stop cruising. I guess if all the lines go out of business or the prices get so high I can no longer afford it. The only other thing I can think of is if they get super high speed internet and no charge phones calls and then places like work expect me to be on and working the whole time. I like being able to shut off and not worry about anything. :)

It would be a sad day that I have to give up cruising. We have sailed on several lines and all have their perks and all have their downfalls, but it's still cruising. I guess health and funds will be the final call on when we stop.

We have cruised with Carnival several times over the past 13 years, non of the changes so far have been egregious enough for me to even think about changing lines or give up cruising.

It would either take the end of the world as we know it, my departure, or Carnival not offering cruises anymore to change my mind.

Carnival does not listen to the overwhelming negative response to their change to the aft pools. It'll be adult only all-inclusive resorts from now on.

A very good common sense answer. Direct and to the point. :)

Hope this doesn't come across as sounding self centered (well not too much :o). We have enjoyed other vacations like Nascar races' date=' following the Cubs, amusement parks, etc. So, when we started cruising in 2000, the one thing that I really enjoyed was that when we were on a cruise -we could be as busy or laid back as we wanted and that we were being "pampered". It just seemed like the staff was happier, the room stewards were always greeting us in the hallway, you had to tell multiple drink staff "no thank-you" instead of searching them out, the fussy re-arranging of silverware between courses, having free champagne one evening in the MDR, free cappuccino in the MDR every night, seemed like a lot more parties with free drinks. I think that to keep the prices more affordable, there have been too many cuts. I feel like I have to apologize whenever I make a request from my room steward or dining staff. I liked it better when there was more staff so you didn't feel guilty making simple requests.

I would try another cruise line first but - I would stop cruising altogether if I continue to feel like instead of being "pampered" on my vacation - I am made to feel like I am a burden to the cruise staff.[/quote']

Great points here! I feel the same way - not that they won't honor your requests, but it seems in the past you didn't even have to request it - it was just already being done.

Enforced check in is a huge pet peeve of mine. Expensive all-inclusive drink packages are as well (like some I have seen at $80/day!) For now, I can get an affordable drink package on Carnival and Faster to the Fun so Carnival is not on my blacklist for now. Of course, I will sail with anybody, including the blacklist, if it's comped.

I cruised Carnival for many years, but my last one with them was in 2007. At that time, we had past cruiser parties with free drinks and hors d'ouevres, a Captain's reception on formal night with free drinks and hors d'ouevres. And in the beginning when I first started cruising, the midnight buffet. I have heard that Carnival has ended all of those free perks. In the years since 2007, I've cruised both RCCL and NCL, and had great experiences with them, but always missed our perks on Carnival. We have a NCL cruise booked for January 2018, but we're thinking of trying Carnival again in 2019 on the Breeze. Will we be badly disappointed? Has Carnival gone down hill that much?
