Sip and Sail Limit

The Princess website indicates there is a limit on the number of drinks one can get in a day under their Sip and Sale promotion but does not say what that limit is.

What number of drinks is allowed per day?

If one chooses a bottle of wine with the 40% discount, does this count as one of the allowed drinks off the limit?

First, the limit is only on the alcoholic drinks not all drinks, so water, coffee etc don't count. I have seen folks mention 15 or 16 as the limit.

There was a post saying any drink counted toward the limit.

There was a post saying it was only the AIBP included in the sip and sail.

There was also a post saying it was alcoholic drinks only.

Who knows.........

No I don't think wine purchased at the 40% off is included in the limit.

We have used that promotion before and I read there was a limit. When I asked on board we were told there was no limit at all. I had a group and nobody ever had a problem, when they wanted to order anything,

Exactly what I was told when I called Princess. The rep put me on hold to call special services and this is what she was told.

Seems from also reading other posts, it's 15 ALCOHOLIC (other non-alchocol don't count) Drinks in a 24 hour period.

This is a good question. The only reasons that I can think of to set a limit would be to either stop sharing among passengers or to control the alcohol consumption. Sharing wouldn't be an issue if you booked under the sip and sail because both parties booked in the same stateroom would receive the beverage package. However it would make sense to pose a limit on those who purchase only one package and are booked as two guests. As far as controlling alcohol consumption they can cut you off at anytime with or without a limit. Personally I think that the limit is just put there as a disclaimer which would allow them to enforce it whenever they want to in the future if the beverage package starts to eat into the profit.

Absolutely not ( vodka pun intended) people come in different sizes and shapes and maybe you are plastered at 6 but I know quite a few who can handle this Remember it's a 24 hr clock

There is no limit on alcoholic drinks for AIBP on the Grand and Crown. The bartenders are not aware of any limit if there will be.

I'm under the impression that it's unlimited, until it becomes limited. I watched a fellow cruiser do nothing but drink all day and night. Don't know if she even took time to sleep. Anyhow the second to last night, she as WASTED, like beyond falling down. Walked into a specialty restaurant and passed out at a table. She was escorted to her room, with security posted at her door. Next day she was allowed to drink again.

 

I think it has to do with the behavior of the consumer, but again, that's just my opinion.

All of the information available leads to the conclusion that ONLY the Sip n Sail promotion has the 15 alcoholic drinks limit per day.

The AIBP package, when purchased, does not - at the moment - specify any limit.

I agree with this. They worked around a situation where there wasn't a S&S by making both persons in the cabin purchase the package. The other condition you mentioned that by having the S&S where you are serviced by the staff, they can limit you if you have been over-served.

This S&S program may have been put into effect to do two things. Eliminate the need for passengers to smuggle liquor aboard and over serving themselves creating a problem and to provide more revenue that is lost to smuggling.

Personally, I can't justify the S&S on port extensive voyages and would opt to replace that with the option of additional OBC.

You would get your money's worth way before 15 drinks a day. Around six alcoholic beverages plus a couple of sodas and specialty coffees would do it.

 

Back when I was allowed to drink, I think it would have been great. Mimosas with breakfast, a glass of wine or two with lunch, a predinner cocktail or two, another glass of wine or two at dinner and an after-dinner cordial would do it. But now I'm on a drug that limits me to one glass of wine, so it would no longer be a bargain. If we booked under the AIBP option, I'd take the onboard credit.

I dislike being forced to over indulge just because the package was "included".

Most times the TA I deal with has an option of a cheaper cruise price without the package.

This allows me to bring (smuggle) just what I want and not overspend for something I don't really use that much.

I can see this being the case, however, in what way could they enforce this? Example, Passenger A has the S&S promotion and goes to the bar and they say you've hit your 15 drink limit. Passenger B purchased the AIBP on board and has no limit. This seems difficult for the bar staff to keep up with and confusing to the guests, no?

You could be very right, Giff. I wouldn't know if 6 would do what you suggest as I limit my intake to that which is good for me heart.

 

My point wasn't to disparage those who may consume a goodly amount of alcohol. But rather, to comment on the mentality of people who will consume solely because it is available at no cost. Or, at least, paid for in advance.

 

If one is planning on drinking for 24 hours per day on a 10 day cruise, I don’t want to be behind them on disembarkation.

 

By the way, your comment on different sizes and shapes brought me back to that great John Candy line in Splash about drinking. You know, the one where he says it is not that you drank too much, it is that you don't weigh enough? Fond memories of a great movie.

The Princess web site is often slow to be updated with policy changes.

 

If a 15 alcohol drink per day limit will exist, it will no doubt apply to all AIBP packages no matter how obtained.
