Use to be port. Now ships docked different ways, front first, back in sometimes

so you could see the sea or view a nice port or a port building. Then you tender in

some ports and the ships moves a lot when sitting at sea. So will see land and sea

at different times.

You'll have to decide for yourself as it really depends on personal preferences. Assuming you have a balcony, an ocean view or a suite, when do you want sun? Look at the itinerary map and decide. Morning or afternoon (northerly or southerly transit) or outbound or return legs. It's up to you.

I think it only matters how you want your sunrise and sunset to occur during your cruise. Your exposure to the sun should be pretty equal coming and going. If you want sunsets going pick starboard. Returning, pick port side.

Since the cruise goes all the way South down South America then around the Horn and back all the way North the sun will be rising and setting on different sides of the ship depending on what part of the cruise you are on. During the course of the 49 days there will be quite a bit of change in the daylight and the weather. It should be an interesting cruise.

You got the wrong cruise. Weather on the OP's cruise will be hot & tropical, almost all the time. Port or Starboard will not matter for the OP's cruise.
