Disembarkation Question?

I read all kinds of comments about leaving the ship early and carrying off your luggage. My question is can I request to leave towards the end of disembarkation? If so will I need to carry off my luggage? I am spending two days in Fort Lauderdale after the cruise, so I am in no hurry and would prefer not to hold up anyone who does want/need to get off quickly.

You will receive a disembarkation questionnaire in your cabin. Select the independent arrangement time that suits your requirements. Latest time will be somewhere around 9:30/10:00. You are asked to exit your cabin by 8:00am. We normally then go to breakfast, and then go to the specified lounge or DR assigned to your disembarkation time to wait. Your luggage is placed outside your cabin the evening before and then picked up before you exit the pier.

If you choose to be in one of the last disembarkation groups you are expected to not be cluttering up the lounges/corridors/elevators with your full size cases. Just request the latest color bag-check tag you wish.

However the numbers who rush to be one of the first ones off (who you are wisely keeping out of the way of) are often equaled by those who "forget" to turn in the disembarkation preference form, and then "forget" to put their bags out the night before. Feel free to join that group if you wish--and don't forget to lie your bags flat on their side in the aisle of the HC and especially in the elevator once you finally find an empty one

Follow what others have mentioned and you will have no problem. I like your "chillin" approach.

My last disembarkation in San Pedro was a disaster given the hundreds (no kidding) of self appointed early walk offs clogging the decks. The Princess staff were besides themselves with those who would not follow instructions. We were to be in about the fifth group to disembark but were a bit over an hour late getting off the ship.

We leave the cabin for the last time around 0730 with only a carry on. Eat breakfast in the MDR. To the IC for coffee and then to our disembarkation lounge until 10:30. Disembark with luggage waiting for us in the terminal.

It isn't even necessary to go to your official disembarkation lounge immediately after breakfast if you have lots of time to kill. There are much nicer places on the ship to wait it out.

We were in the last independent travelers disembarkation on the Royal last month scheduled for 10:10 or so. We left our cabin at 8 am, had a leisurely breakfast in the MDR and then met the rest of our party at the Outrigger Bar to enjoy the outdoors (the weather was beautiful) and with coffee and tea readily available. We had planned to send one of us (we were a group of 6) to our official lounge every 20 minutes or so to determine how fast (or slow) disembarkation was progressing but that wasn't necessary because announcements were made over the ship's PA every 20 minutes or so saying that disembarkation was moving smoothly and was 10 or 15 minutes ahead of schedule. When an announcement came that we were within 10 minutes or so of our group being called, we reported to our official disembarkation location (one of the MDRs) and were told not to even sit down because our group was about to be called. This worked out perfectly. It was lovely and much less crowded than any of the designated disembarkation lounges (including the elite/platinum lounge that about 1/3 of the passengers on that sailing qualified for) sitting at Outriggers.

On royal recently, the last walk-off group was 10AM, so those people could clutter at will.

I would walk off if I wanted to leave quickly, and would need to carry my bags to do so.

If I wanted to leave at 10AM, I would let princess haul my bags.

on our latest cruise 2 weeks ago, we chose the latest time to disembark on the questionnaire and received tags for the 9 am group in the casino. We didn't want to wait in the smoke cured casino, so we stayed in the buffet till 9:30 and then disembarked in less than a minute. The suitcases were already waiting for us at the terminal, of course.

If you don't need to leave early, then it is best to wait until the last ones to leave. Your baggage will be waiting in the terminal most likely setting there all alone and easy to find. The line for immigration will most likely be small if non-existent so you will be able to almost walk through with a very short stop. We have stayed overnight in FLL after a cruise. One advantage was that the next day after a leisure morning, the airport was not nearly as busy as the day before. It worked very well.

We disembarked last month in San Pedro and were among the last to leave the ship. The luggage was setting there all alone and there was no line for immigration. Outside the terminal we did have to negotiate the group waiting to board but the shuttle was waiting to take us to LAX. It was all so very relaxing after a b2b 14 day cruise.
