What to do between the cruise and the arrival at the hotel ??

My cruise arrive in Miami on a Sunday morning and going to my Airbnb rental in Fort Lauderdale.

I cannot arrive before 2 in the afternoon, so what can I do to kill sometimes between the two ??

You might want to be in the last group off the ship.

 

You could then head over to Fort Lauderdale and then have lunch there. You could eat at a hotel restaurant where they would hold your luggage.

 

You can also get other ideas if you post this on the Florida Departures Board.

Things like the Water Taxi is a good thought. What you are going to do with your luggage is a key point. Renting a car? Then you have a trunk.

You can do sightseeing in Miami. The zoo in Miami is absolutely massive and definitely worth a visit if you like animals. You can also do Airboat Tours through the Everglades and if that's not your thing... you can visit the casinos in Dania Beach or Fort Lauderdale.

The cruise lines will often have after cruise excursions. I have done the gatorland airboat safari twice and loved it. I don't know if the OP is renting a car, but the excursion will drop off at both FLL and MIA airports afterwards. That way you don't have to worry about luggage, as it is watched while on the bus. Then just an easy taxi to the lodging.

Contact your AirBnB host. Most of them will allow you to come early. Even if you cannot get to the house early and unpack, they may at least let you leave your luggage there as long as the previous tenants have left. Then you can Uber to whatever you want to do from there.

Would the Airbnb let you drop your luggage off early. I have done that w hotelss many times.

I guess the obvious question is are you going to have a rental car.....and if so, this easily solves the problem. Otherwise, we agree about asking your host if its possible to get into your rental a bit early. If you stay aboard as long as possible you will likely not have to disembark until around 9:30. By the time you get your luggage and clear Passport control it might be close to 10. A transfer up to Ft Lauderdale will take about 45 min (more on weekdays).. If you are staying in South Florida more than a couple of days then a rental car is highly desirable. Florida uses a car-based transportation system (similar to most of the USA) and a car gives you unlimited flexibility. It also solves you issue on killing time because you can store your luggage in your trunk (boot) and enjoy a nice day exploring part of South Florida. Since you are starting in Miami, you might want to spend a few hours at Sawgrass Mall, which is a very popular shopping area in the Miami area. Otherwise, you could drive up to Ft Lauderdale and perhaps spend a couple of hours walking around the Los Olas area before enjoying lunch at one of the many restaurants.

My plan at the moment is not to have a rental car but I may change my mind because it seems that a car would make my life a lot easier [emoji16][emoji16] . We love shopping and the recent recommendations in terms to go at the Sawgrass Mall looks really interesting ! Thanks all for the excellent advice ... Germain and Diane , Merry Christmas to all !
