ddlb Posted January 9, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2018 So if I have a couple empty water bottles in my carryon is that legal? Of course I guess I could just buy a bottle of water on board and save it. I like drinking water out of a bottle so I can cap it. I won't fill at the water dispenser I know that is frowned upon as a way of spreading germs.
ray98 Posted January 9, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 9, 2018 (edited) Yes....we bring several each time. We normally take them into port with us also and bring them back empty. It is a good way to transport water. Edited January 9, 2018 by ray98
pizzalady1 Posted January 9, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 9, 2018 You are now allowed to bring ONE full or partial bottle of water aboard. This is at embarkation and at each port.

I don't think this is correct. You can't bring water on the ship at the embarkation port. You can bring empty bottles.I do it all the time. Bring as many empty bottles as you want. BTW filling from a dispenser is not frowned upon as long as you follow the proper procedure.
zqvol Posted January 9, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 9, 2018 You are now allowed to bring ONE full or partial bottle of water aboard. This is at embarkation and at each port. You may be able to do this on some lines but not NCL. If you have done it they have just let you get away with it. If your information is old the rule was changed about 15 months ago to eliminate bring beverages on NCL ships.
NMLady Posted January 9, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 9, 2018 You are now allowed to bring ONE full or partial bottle of water aboard. This is at embarkation and at each port. This is NOT true on NCL. No water may be brought aboard.

esm54687 Posted January 10, 2018 #11 Share Posted January 10, 2018 What is the procedure for filling from the dispenser, please? Use a clean glass supplied by NCL, fill that and pour into bottle.... repeat until bottle is at the level you want......
CJDepew Posted January 10, 2018 #12 Share Posted January 10, 2018 We took an unfilled Brita water bottle with no problem last February.

Shocked me, but yes you can bring on one bottle of liquid at any port. We did that on a recent NCL cruise and there was a thread about it recently. jjikids Posted January 10, 2018 #14 Share Posted January 10, 2018 Shocked me, but yes you can bring on one bottle of liquid at any port. We did that on a recent NCL cruise and there was a thread about it recently. Was on the Gem on October. Bottles were being taken away or had to be emptied. My bottle was in my purse so they didn't catch it so I was able to go on. Empty bottles never a problem bringing on.

casofilia Posted January 10, 2018 #16 Share Posted January 10, 2018 You are now allowed to bring ONE full or partial bottle of water aboard. This is at embarkation and at each port. That would be a total reversal from what was introduced in February 2017. What is the source of your information? Please quote in full or better put a screen shot. casofilia Posted January 10, 2018 #17 Share Posted January 10, 2018 What we have found is that, if you are carrying a bottle with any liquid in it as you re-board it will be removed. You won't be able to empty it on board!!! Do that before you climb the gangway!!
dos equis Posted January 10, 2018 #18 Share Posted January 10, 2018 My empty plastic water bottle was taken from my backpack during the security check for the Breakaway in NY. I was pretty annoyed. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
herdingdogmom Posted January 10, 2018 #19 Share Posted January 10, 2018 I also had a small empty water bottle taken away from security in Miami before checking in. I was not happy. I have not had any problems taking empty water bottles back on the ship from a port stop. And two cruises last year on the Sky and Sun, my partial water bottle in my day bag was allowed through by the scanners on the ship.
casofilia Posted January 10, 2018 #20 Share Posted January 10, 2018 Interesting, both in the USA. Homeland, or more likely Port, Security not understanding NCL rules.

Of course, as you mentioned you could just buy 1 bottle and use it throughout the cruise.
kochleffel Posted January 10, 2018 #22 Share Posted January 10, 2018 I am planning to take a Platypus bottle, which packs flat. Maybe I will fold it and stash it in my pocket for boarding!
boatseller Posted January 10, 2018 #23 Share Posted January 10, 2018 I think it's important to make the distinction among which type of bottle we're talking about. Your personal, refillable bottle should pass screening with little to no issues. Empty retail bottle are 100% allowed. Full retail bottles are not allowed in any quantity but if you get one or more through, good for you!
