love to cruise 2017 Posted September 14, 2018 #226 Share Posted September 14, 2018 Well most casinos are not small closed off spaces They are now massive open air spaces that are in the middle level of an open air atrium so the smoke goes throughout the ship there is no denying that On the ncl getaway/breakaway etc several venues are filled with smoke because of this ....shops...le bistro..headliners etc Sent from my iPad using Forums Been on Nav of the seas it is the same...i am sorry but smoking should be allowed, they have jammed smokers into corners, and its just not fair. we are playing by cruise line rules and paying just as much as u so why be punished ? there are lots of non smoking areas on board and in the Casio...and you dont have to pass though there if you dont want too. just saying and not being rude

Now if I could peacefully gamble that's another story Sent from my iPad using Forums

I gamble quite a bit and I for one am sick of the people in the casino who are just sitting there smoking. It is not a smoking room, it is a casino with a portion for smoking. So unless you are gambling while you are smoking find somewhere else to smoke. This is really ridiculous considering how many states (and countries for that matter) ban smoking indoors. In New York State you can't even smoke in a public park Even jones beach has big no smoking signs up Of course some people can't read and do smoke but they are few and far between Can't smoke on state college campuses either. Totally smoke free the entire perimeter of the campus from remote parking lots to the main buildings So not only is indoor smoking seeing it's total and complete demise so is outdoor smoking thankfully Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't casinos non smoking out of certain ports? Australia? Southampton? Why is that? Local laws perhaps? It's only a matter of time until USA ports and the ships leaving them follow suit. I predict NYC will be first Of course after my recent 2 day pre cruise stay in Miami where you can basically smoke anywhere (cultural influences I assume) Florida ports will be last to ban smoking. JoMoe Posted February 28, 2019 #230 Share Posted February 28, 2019 I just got off the Oasis a month ago and Royal Caribbean still does not go by there own rules. Smoking is allowed in the casino by anyone at anytime, even when in port and when it is closed. The smoke does not stay in the casino but enters the common areas nearby such as the elevators, stairs and entrance to the MDR. I tried to walk through the casino at 10AM, two hours after docking at a port, and people were in there smoking. It is frustrating when you go to the MDR for breakfast and dinner and have to put up with smoke from the time you get into the elevator areas and even in the beginning of the MDR. I am glad I did not have a table near the entrance to the MDR or I would have had to breath in smoke during my meal. I am not apposed to people smoking and having places for them to smoke. But I do not think it is fair for me to be forced to breathe in the smoke when I am not in those areas that it is allowed. Doe the smoke stay in the casino when it has large opening into common areas. Of course not. They could close the doors to the casino or ventilate it to the outsidet, but they do not. Royal Caribbean dos not go by there own policy of all common areas being smoke free.

Nessa1dc Posted February 28, 2019 #234 Share Posted February 28, 2019 I am a smoker and I am respectful of non-smokers. I gamble and I prefer ships that allow smoking. Just my 2 cents. 4

The only thing that can't be predicted is when it'll happen. last I heard less than 15% of adults in the US smoke and it gets less each year. In a few years it may be down in single digits. At some point they will be chasing more people away than they are keeping in by permitting it and they will simply stop.
constable145 Posted February 28, 2019 #238 Share Posted February 28, 2019 Smoking indoors is vile. ( well smoking anywhere is vile, but I'm not about to open that can of worms)The stench lingers for perpetuity. Ideally, RCI would follow the lead of their sister company Celebrity and ban smoking from the Casino. To those who say the casino won't make money if you can't smoke in there- nonsense. In Ontario, you can't smoke in any of our casinos. They are busy, 24/7/365. At the very least, if RCI doesn't go smoke free, perhaps they could plagiarize a move from NCL- the smoking section of the casino is completely enclosed. The most revolutionary feature of all was making the cruise casino a non -smoking area! Yes, folks, you heard right! While we continue to accommodate all preferences just to provide unmatched gaming experience on the high seas, Bliss casino is the first in the fleet to provide a purely unconventional setup. To those who prefer to smoke while playing there is a separate room provided for exactly that. This private room houses 117 slot machine options with 6 table games. All kinds of machine games found in the non-smoking casino can also be enjoyed in the private smoking area.

In my latest cruise review to RC I said that if they insisted to keep the casino a place to smoke then at least put doors on to keep the smoke inside. On our cruise to the British Isles last May it was chilly and even when the casino was closed people stood by the entrance and smoked. They didn’t want to go outside. It was horrible and the smoke went everywhere. I even overheard the crew complaining.

Whitapers Posted March 4, 2019 #243 Share Posted March 4, 2019 Hello! For a casino, this is not profitable, if you take an example from statistics, casinos that put a ban on smoking in the hall, on average, lose 22% per month in income ... then I think it’s not worth explaining. I myself am a smoker, and in principle, cigarette smoke does not bother me. BUT, it's one thing when you sit alone in a room in front of the monitor, calmly play online casino https://casino-now.co.uk - and smoke like I do. Another moment when you sit in a real casino at the table and smoke , and there are a lot of people like "smokers" in the hall. Plus, there are people who do not play but smoke, there are even more of them than the players themselves. If the ventilation in the room is poorly thought out, then discomfort is felt immediately. Cruise a holic Posted March 4, 2019 #244 Share Posted March 4, 2019 The Casino smoke is horrible. Occasionally we have walked through it to get to other areas of the ship- but always try to avoid it. We will never play in the Casino because the smoke travels. If they enclosed the smoking area with glass walls and true barriers, we might use it. While we enjoy the royal ships, that is why we sail on Celebrity most often. No smoking allowed in the Casino. Royal- get healthy!
cruisegirl1 Posted March 4, 2019 #245 Share Posted March 4, 2019 The casino smoke is really bad. To make matters worse, the casino is listed in the Compass as a dedicated indoor ( the only one) smoking spot. I never mind players who smoke, just the smokers who come in ( non players) , sit around a machine and smoke. Or worse, non players who want to watch, and stand over me while smoking. Non players are not allowed to sit at tables, but are allowed to just sit at machines. The signage for the smoking and non smoking area is not well defined and almost impossible to know where the non smoking area starts and stops. Smokers are always walking through the non smoking areas, hopefully by accident. Years ago the casino was always smoke free on formal nights, but I haven't seen that for many years. I feel bad for the staff. M

KCMiller Posted March 4, 2019 #247 Share Posted March 4, 2019 We just got off a charter on Independence of the Seas. The charter didn't allow smoking anywhere inside on the ship (Buckeye Cruise for Cancer - fundraiser for cancer research, so yeah, smoking would be verboten! There were also free sunscreen stations set up by the doors to the pool areas), and so the casino was smoke free. It was packed every night. The smoking area was limited to deck 4, port side - no where near an open pool area, deck 4 port side is just a long deck with seating. They had a very nice seating area set up, comfortable chairs and tables, with a bar, which I thought was a very nice touch. No one seemed to mind, the casino was busy, and the smokers had a pleasant and welcoming space. It was a win/win, I think. Of course, it was the charter rules, but I think a version of this would be a good thing for all cruise ships to aim towards - making interior spaces smoke free, but having a pleasant and attractive space designated on a deck for smokers, who deserve to be treated with respect.
