suekel Posted February 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2018 There are 2 relatively inexpensive Mexican Rivera cruises in April 2019. They leave one day apart, one on the Ruby, the other on the Royal. For those who have been on both, which one would you choose and why?

I would choose the Royal because she is larger and newer. I hear mostly wonderful things about that ship. Enjoy your cruise! fishywood Posted February 12, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 12, 2018  The last Ruby Princess Mexico cruise for the season is the five night Cabo Getaway on March 5, 2019. Royal Princess is sailing seven night Mexican Riviera cruises Saturdays from March 23 thru April 27, 2019. Unless you wish to sail Grand out of SF then Royal is your only option. (And unless a Cabo booze cruise is truly your preferred option, why would you even consider it if the seven night cruise is similarly affordable?) suekel Posted February 12, 2018 Author #6 Share Posted February 12, 2018 I just got off the Royal and there were things I loved and things I didn't so basically this is idle curiosity. Are the balconies bigger on the Ruby?
suekel Posted February 12, 2018 Author #7 Share Posted February 12, 2018 Ack, you're right. I just saw the Ruby is for 2018. I should have looked harder! Thanks

OCruisers Posted February 12, 2018 #9 Share Posted February 12, 2018 Gosh, in the minority here ... but we LOVE Ruby and liked her better than Royal. For us easier to get to the places we most enjoy. :)
neverbeenhere Posted February 12, 2018 #10 Share Posted February 12, 2018 If you are a balcony person, go for the Ruby. Caribe Deck, if possible.
Thrak Posted February 12, 2018 #11 Share Posted February 12, 2018 If you are a balcony person, go for the Ruby. Caribe Deck, if possible. Definitely. The Royal balconies are quite small. The Ruby balconies are much bigger and the Caribe balconies on Ruby are immense compared to a balcony on Royal. Ruby has a better selection of pools as well if that is important to you. All things being equal I'd sail Royal just because I've never sailed that class of ship but would be quite happy on Ruby.

polmcs Posted February 12, 2018 #14 Share Posted February 12, 2018 Royal, followed by the Royal and then the Royal! ;) We haven't actually sailed on the Royal, but we loved our time on the Sister ship the Regal, that we would have no qualms about sailing on the Royal. We did the Ruby last Thanksgiving in our usual Caribe deck on the Grand Class ships, but come March/April 2019 for our MR cruise, we will be opting for an itenerary on the Royal. jennybenny Posted February 12, 2018 #16 Share Posted February 12, 2018 Royal!! All the way, for the following reasons: Retreat pool Bellinis Alfredo’s pasta Atrium Terrace Seafood bar Love the Ruby (second favorite) Favorite ship is the Royal Yes, the balconies suck on Royal, if that really matters to you, the Ruby is great. They have SHARE and an amazing staff. Our next cruise is on the Ruby but wish it was on the Royal Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

DrivesLikeMario Posted February 12, 2018 #21 Share Posted February 12, 2018 I like the Royal/Regal for some things and the Ruby for others. The size of the Ruby is nice and a little more intimate than the Royal. But, the Royal has Deluxe Balcony Cabins, the integrated TV system and the fantastic buffet. Just depends on what you want. So you will have to tell me all about the WS and itinerary!! I am looking so forward to the suite breakfasts and other amenities for such a reasonable price. I have never set foot in a ship's casino, so unfortunately didn't get the casino rate, but got a decent one. Have a great cruise. Pooh
