Shower water vapor has done it. The alarm does not go off in the room initially but does go off on the bridge and they will send someone down to the room to verify what is causing the alarm. I find the bridge fire panel very interesting. My background is as a safety and environmental engineer.
Rare LMaxwell Posted March 2, 2019 #52 Share Posted March 2, 2019 Whether you smoke cigarettes, cigars, or vape (flavor, nicotine, etc.) please just be courteous enough to do it in designated areas. I've, many times, had to ask smokers not to blow smoke in my kids face and gotten nasty responses. Royal did absolutely nothing about it even though we were at the family pool in a non-smoking area. Thanks for all the extra OBC and sorry (no I'm not) about taking off my service charges, but if I'm in a non-smoking area I have an expectation of not having smoke blown in my face or my child. I don't go into smoking areas and wave my hands or do the "cough". But Vaping is also intrusive on personal space. I vaped to stop smoking cigarettes. I never felt like I could use it in areas where cigarette smoke wasn't allowed. I see people vape all the time in stores. No one does anything to them.

My DH had a heart attack a few years ago and while he still chews the nicotine gum his doctor feels for him it's the best alternative. It's getting tobacco smoke into the lungs that's the problem ... not the nicotine, which while addictive, isn't a major concern. Many common foods contain nicotine such as tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants, peppers, etc.
jstraw20 Posted March 2, 2019 #56 Share Posted March 2, 2019 While sitting under the detector and blowing clouds will probably set the alarms off, a little stealth vaping away from the detector won't.

Methinks you're a smoker and a defensive one at that. , power strips aren't allowed onboard. And, yes, vaping does leave an odor. considering the main ingredient in the liquids is FDA approved and has been used in asthma medications since the 50's. i would imagine that the heath risks are somewhat understood. Gradually cutting down on the concentration of nicotine. I encourage everyone I know who smokes to switch to vaping. If it was up to me all ships would be 100% smoke free. Having said that I believe that vaping is a safe alternative to smoking and far less offensive. I would be in favor of the ships promoting the use of vaping instead of smoking. In fact they should offer seminars and sell vaping devices. The knock against vaping is being perpetrated by the tobacco industry as a way to snuff out competition. Vaporizers shouldn't even be called e-cigarettes. They have nothing in common with cigarettes, they are vaporizers. And no, I don't use of sell vaping devices either. Altria just bought 35% for 35 Billion dollars of Juul *a major vaping company) somehow I don't think they did this to snuff (was the pun intended?) out competition. I think vaping has its place, but should be treated like cigarettes. Contrary the insistance of others, it is just not "water vapor". You are putting unregulated chemicals in your body and the bodies of others. Think of the red dye food coloring issues that happened several decades ago. Smokers and vapers need to follow the same rules.

NavyCruiser Posted March 3, 2019 #63 Share Posted March 3, 2019 I'm a Vegan. I think all cruise ships should be 100% meat-free. I'm a Non-Drinker. I think all cruise ships should be 100% alcohol-free. I'm a recovering Gambler. I think all cruise ships should be 100% casino-free. I'm a Non-Smoker & live an All-Organic lifestyle. I think all cruise ships should allow 100% organic marijuana smoking only, since all other forms of smoking contains chemical & just Yucky... Guess I'll won't be cruising anytime soon then... 🙂

Vape vapor dissipates quickly and very few leave a lingering scent..... It's certainly NOT as bad as cigarettes...and it's not harming anyone else. Just don't do it in public spaces unless you're in a smoking area. In your cabin, no one will ever know. Notice I didn't say to vape on the balcony, as someone will report it. 49 minutes ago, Host Clarea said: Rules are for other people.
