Any news from Daveywavey recently?  I am so enjoying his adventures vicariously,  as well as Mysty's of course.

Last I heard, he was living on the Edge...the Celebrity Edge, that is. They are crossing the Tasman from Sydney to New Zealand. Looked like he was having a great time!

Fabulous first full day on Celebrity Edge. What a beautiful ship. I Skipped the traditional breakfast and opted for a Champagne and Pizza sorta breakfast instead. Unfortunately as I walked out of the back doors of the ship my Pizza flew off my plate and landed several tables across. The Tasman sea has been known to be a bit choppy at times. I Had a moochy pottering sort of day getting my bearings. Fabulous Figgy Cocktail at Eden at whatever they call the Friends of Dorothy meet-up this week. I think it starts out as LGBTQ but I lost interest soon after the first 5 letters. Dinner tonight was at the Fine cuts Steak House. The Lobster cocktail starter was a bit of a jolt. I’ve never had Lobster, Melon, grapefruit and horseradish before on the same plate but I worked around it. The Ribeye was superb but unfortunately an American portion. We soldiered on through 2 deserts with 3 spoons. The show was very good but nothing you could hum along to. Hats off to the 2girls that looked like they hadn’t had a square meal in weeks mastering the trapeze despite the swell. Some people watching in the Martini Bar and a Bacardi to take away. G’night all xxx

I’m still alive Lola xxx

Anyone got any tips on what to do about the coat hanger concerto in the closet? I’ve draped my best rags over them but they are still clanking away.

Great that you are "Alive and Well".  Super enjoying all of the pictures and updates.  Keep 'em comin'!!

Lots of fun and excitement for us, especially with the cold and snow hitting much of the USA right now.

THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio

May I ask if you are in The Retreat bit of the ship, Davey?  (I admit I would expect the answer to be yes).  So far it looks pretty splendid, whether or not.

No Lola, I’m in a solo infinite verandah. Price was quadrupled for retreat and I get bees in my bonnet when it comes to solo fleecing. I Can find much more interesting things to do with 6k than jump a fairly short queue 🥳

Wow, I should think so!  I'm just wondering how you are finding being in a 'big city' as opposed to the usual 'village/small town'  atmosphere.  One of our reasons for going in smaller ships (apart from the obvious advantages of being pretty inclusive) is that we had never lived in anything larger than a small town,  and were real country bumpkins who got mesmerised in a big crowd other than for a short visit.

One big advantage must be lots of choice of where to eat, and so far your photos look like there are some pretty good ones.  Looking forward to more from you - when you have time of course.

Hi Davey, I would love know your opinion about that cabin...........it has been several years since I sailed Celebrity and never on an Edge Class ship. Does that solo cabin feel very small to you?

YES!!  Super wise to avoid spending that extra $6K for such a cruise ship offering.  Enjoyed lincslady's wisdom for liking a smaller, more personal ship environment versus the BIG, BIG ships.  Lots to love with a 'village/small town'  atmosphere.   Great sharing and comments!!

THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio

Meanwhile, on the US upper left coast (Oregon) we're in Winter Wonderland mode!  Roads are like a skating rink, but without Zambonis.  Nothing to do but stay home, bake bread and enjoy the view.  Most people think that in Oregon it rains all the time.  Au contraire!  Sometimes, the rain freezes!!

Diva,

Thank you.  While I've gone the whole sourdough starter route (& yes, I did kill my mother...) these loaves are from a recipe in "The Best Bread Ever" by Charles Van Over.  It is ridiculously simple, you just dump flour, salt, yeast & water into a standard Cuisinart food processor with the steel blade, run it for about 45 seconds til it forms a ball, let it rise, divide into 3 portions, rest, roll out, rise, then bake on a stone with a pan with water below.  I've been experimenting with various amounts of letting the dough rise, more or less yeast, and using up dribs and drabs of various flours on hand - rye, whole wheat, OO pasta flour, etc.. Hard to go wrong.  Also did a larger batch with the dough hook on a Kitchen Air stand mixer, was very happy with end result - lots of gas bubbles and a nice crumb that demands a slathering of Irish butter on a warm slice, with some preserves my daughter put up last year.

Lois, The cabin is really quite lovely and I’ve only one gripe, there aren’t any drawers at all. There is a wardrobe but other than the hairdryer drawer in the bathroom, nothing. So my Knick knacks are still in my case under the bed. It’s my first trip in a solo cabin on any line and I’m glad to be here without the ridiculous supplements.

Lola, this is by far the biggest ship I’ve ever travelled on (2900) andI was a little unsure but I love it. I Too live out in the sticks and can take or leave cities, I’m usually found chunnering about how dirty they are and full of rude people but as cities go the Edge ain’t bad at all.

Put them on the floor. But if they cannot be removed from the rail, hang something on alternate hangars to keep them from clanking.  Even hang shoes by their laces if desperate. The noise used to annoy me too!

Do you have a robe you're not using?  Use the belt to tie the hangers tightly together.  Or ask your cabin attendant to remove most of the empties.

Empties? We’ve never met JB but if we had you’d know there would never be empties😁 I don’t travel light. thanks for the tip though. I Was quite impressed at the Shangri La, my luggage had its own superb view.

Your cabin/suite does look lovely and with a serene feeling, Davey.  I am pleased you are happy to be with so many others; obviously not the full gamut of humankind you come across in a real city, which I can find a bit overwhelming.

Last night was lots of fun. Dinner at the Tuscan which was  quite lovely but didn’t quite have the same sparkle as the previous 2 restaurants. Tuscan Shrimp Soup, Pork Cutlet and a rather unphotogenic but quite lovely Bananas Foster for desert. Onto the Martini bar for a fabulous night. We entered Milford sound this morning which was utterly incredible. A Very civilised breakfast in Cosomplotain. Doubtful sound was at lunchtime andDusky Sound shortly after 3.00 what an incredibly beautiful country this is. First Port of Call tomorrow, yeah! Dunedin. 3 days at sea is not for me!
