BEAV Posted September 24, 2018 #76 Share Posted September 24, 2018 Anyone remember the Dynasty? She was 19,000 tons and carried 800 passengers. She wasn't in the NCL fleet very long. Sailed her from Honolulu to Vancouver in 1998. Bought 2 cruises (Sky and Wind) in 2000 on the old Egghead auction site. NCL isn't exactly new to the bidding game..... All of the above cruises were before Freestyle...……
SMSACE6 Posted September 24, 2018 #77 Share Posted September 24, 2018 The waiter only uses it if necessary. That being said, I know that the waitstaff on HAL, MSC, and several other cruise lines still have the tool and use it as necessary. LOL, yes I am aware of this. Sorry, but I do sometimes drop a crumb or two or " ten of them", therefor needing a clean up LOL. ~:D
newmexicoNita Posted September 25, 2018 #78 Share Posted September 25, 2018 My first cruise at 20 yrs Old was on the Norway anniversary cruise in 1981. The pool was filled with balloons covered by a net, when we sailed they pulled back the net and let the balloons fly - People on the pier were waving and throwing streamers - and everyone had glasses of free champagne. What a great start to my cruising life! 25+ and still sailing!! 7 days until our Escape to Bermuda 😁 As much sailing as we have done and for so many years, the one ship we never got to sail was the Norway. We had reservations to sail her for our granddaughters 21st birthday but the ship had her last sailing about 3 months before. I hardly ever heard a negative word about her

That was in the days when cruise lines bought ships from each other and they were not all built for one particular line as many are today. There also were not so many identical ships like the Jewel class for instance.

And the food was 1st class in MDR yep. In fact we could buy liquor in the ship gift shop and take it to our cabin. As for the food, it was better but cruising considering inflation was a lot more expensive. Now, it has become a family vacation and has changed, like everything does, in the past 20 years.

MCC retired Posted December 28, 2018 #86 Share Posted December 28, 2018 Remembering cruising aboard the Dreamward, Windward , Westward , Seaward and Norway. Ships that you felt you were on a cruise , could view the sea from most everywhere . Skeet shooting , docking at all 3 Bermuda Ports , no reservations for anything other than dinner seating . I have been cruising NCL since the early 1990s and don't remember the specialty dining room with no charge. are you sure? NCL was the first line to offer specialty dining and it was $5 a person. There were only 2 dining rooms on the ships plus the upscale one and no buffet like they have today. They did offer a small buffet but it was more like a fast food restaurant. In face when we sailed NCL for the first time, it was before the Wind I think. The Wind didn't join the fleet until the mid 190s I don't think: maybe about 1996 or 97? Now, how good? well that depends on how you like your Mexican food.

One of my all time favorite cruises. The Norwegian Wind was our first NCL Cruise. We had a great time on the 10 Day to Fanning Island. Loved the pool bar - being served in the pool w/ a bar & seats to sit on. Recently saw one of our bartenders from the Wind pool deck on the Jewel Transpacific - Vancouver to Tokyo. We had a promenade deck ocean view. Huge window w/ lots of light - but everyone was walking by... We missed our flight Seattle to Oahu - so we caught up to the cruise on the Big Island. We had a special escort on to the ship. We truly enjoyed our sea days & had a month on Molokai to relax at the end..: Great Honeymoon

I do not remember one unless you are talking Tx Mex which the new Los Lobos is very different from what we might remember. Maybe I am just forgetting and as for 1/2 price before 6: 15 they also offered 1/2 price after 9pm but not every night by any means. I know Cagney's usually offered 2 or 3 nights on a 7 night cruise.
